I just want someone that can kick the Ball and that's not Luke. If we look to Demonland for recruiting it seems we will have a team of pensioners, all good leaders running around next year. Look to who is the current Luke Ball and get him now while he's only 25-26yo. By the way, the mention of Judd in another post. He's not over the line yet and I wouldn't be backing his body in, 2 games and maybe another pre season is a long way to go.
-
For the same reasons that Collingwood is pushing him out, I don't think we can really pick him up. His body is not up to the rigours of AFL footy anymore and he's at best an average kick. If we bring players into the club we need more in the 22-25 age group.
-
They probably are because I can find no evidence that he was rated top 5, maybe in the rookie draft. They must have mixed him up with Garlett who was rated a top 10 pick.

Players to target at the end of the year
rjay replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not the trade for Tyson I would think, that stands alone as a good pick to me. Salem should come on ok, but yep the jury is out on all of our draft selections from last year. Non of them has taken the world by storm as of yet. By the way I didn't say I trust our recruiters to know, it was a figure of speech I trust our recruiters will know. I think the jury is still out on Viney & Taylor and if Viney was so hot for Wines over Toumpas he should have threatened to walk like Bucky did with the Hawks over Buddy. -

I've said this before but he could be the absolute star of this draft or just an ordinary footballer. Is he Fyfe or Murdoch (Geelong version) I trust our recruiters will know which one because it's up to us in the end. -
I know supporting it is not good for my mental health, if he went elsewhere it would only make it worse.

I would.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Thanks for the history on this; I still don't like it at all but then again I don't like most things when politics and money gets involved. -

Now this gets me. How can you back date a penalty they have not been penalised for in the first place. Well we will suspend you for 2 years but it's ok we're going to count the last 2 years you played and call that the penalty. I get in the legal system if you have been in remand for an amount of time then that can count, you've actually been locked away but these guys have been playing. The world has seriously gone crazy if this is acceptable to anyone. -
Frawley Form Could Mean No First Round Draft Pick
rjay replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Oxymoron... -
I don't particularly like the booing but understand the frustration completely. What I'm really sick to death of though is the players apologising to supporters, how many times over the last 3 years have we had to cop this. Poor old Nathan Jones, he's really the only one with credibility to come out and apologise. Don't do it any more mate, tell your team we don't want to hear it, we just want to see actions. Unfortunately I don't think a lot of them are good enough to do a whole lot better.

Frawley Form Could Mean No First Round Draft Pick
rjay replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only factors that matter in deciding compensation are age and salary. Frawley will be 26 next month and wants about $700,000 a year. Yep, so why are you writing an article about his form which has nothing to do with it???? -
Hawthorn are not stand alone, but have the relationship well under control. The Swans don't have a great model having to play in a substandard competition. ...but I agree that something needs to be done with Casey. Either put money in or move on.
-
He does to me too 'old dee', to eager to please. His off sider Evans is very similar, doesn't have an idea or stance of his own.
-
Exactly...
-
Depends on what you buy it for and what the upside is, how well you can develop it and what you can sell it for. You could be better off in either scenario, same with players.

A couple of things, getting a priority pick is not the answer. I'm not sure anyone is saying that but it is part of range of things that can help move forward. Some are already in place. Jackson, Roos and a new coaching group for example. I don't think you will find one club in the modern era, lets say the last 10 years that hasn't built their success on the back of an advantage given them. Brisbane with extra allowance and the Fitzroy connection, Sydney allowances to give them, extra cap, Geelong under the old father son rule, Collingwood and Hawthorn both with key PP's. I'm not writing JKH or Salem off but I'm not writing them on either. They can't be used as evidence we are on the way up, it's just a ridiculous argument from Quayle. I made a comment of not being sure on JKH and I'm not, too many on here rate players way before they should be, Kent is another. At the moment I wouldn't be thinking we could build a team on these 2 and of course they need time to develop. I hope they get there but the odd glimpse is not enough.

Thanks 'rpfc', saved me having to post this, couldn't have said it better.
-
I get that and they always say it but who is best available? that will be the question. I would be surprised if they don't take McCartin but happy for us to take him if they don't.

Should, thanks Emma but will they. We're going back to the crystal ball again like last year and look what happened. The pick is not based on what might happen, it's about what the cold hard evidence tells us. We're no good. I have doubts about JKH. Toumpas and Salem have shown very little to date. The other players named have shown to date they are not good enough to be part of a team that wins a lot more games. The Frawley pick if it happens has nothing to do with it. Just a poor article Emma.
