  1. Never hurt Gibson, a very valuable player at Hawthorn. A couple of B&F's in premiership years. Look he's still a developing kid but with some runs on the board. I don't think we will pay overs for him and his best is yet to come. I wouldn't define him on his career to date apart from saying noting his talent, and I definitely wouldn't define him on last nights game where he wasn't a standout but played his role. He had some really good moments and a few average ones that you would expect from a player of his age and experience.
  2. I don't think we need to trade in depth...
  3. I shudder when I see an under age player staring in the SANFL. Toumpas was a gun for Woodville the year before his draft year...late debut coming into finals. Should also add Aish and a number of other kids who have struggled after good seasons in the SANFL. Unfortunately as we've found out, SANFL form doesn't necessarily translate.
  4. ...and how do you think Stringer will be able to respect the senior coach after the way this has been handled. If their ploy was to ruffle a few feathers and get the players back on track then it's a funny way to do it. I would think there is no way Stringer can return to the dogs now.
  5. If the Tigers play Adelaide in the GF, only one team has a traditional jumper and should wear it. The thought of the made up team from Adelaide having a traditional jumper at this early stage of their lifetime is laughable. Next we will be talking about GWS's traditional supporter base or some such. I'm not a Tiges fan by any means but the precedent needs to be set before we play our next one. As we are the most traditional team in the competition, having founded it there should then be no argument against us wearing our traditional strip, the most traditional strip in the game.
  6. Also has a brother in law who is a Demon...
  7. Can I post a like for 'Rhino Richards' liking your post(s)...'Vogon'.
  8. He will evolve as player in the next couple of years and we will see more of his kicking, marking and goal kicking game. He's already given us a taste of these attributes. That will take him to the elite level, quick mids or not.
  9. I remember little Kev as a young kid with a footy in his hands... He will have a soft spot for the Tiges at the mo, his dad was a huge fan (big Tiger household) but of course was a bigger Kevin fan so followed him wherever he played.
  10. A month will be plenty to get the deals done, no more going behind anyones back. The only reason it stretches out now is because agents know they have time and they are hoping to increase value or see where a club is heading by the end of the season. Well guess what, they will know what they need to know and there will be no need for guess work. Trade week can be trade month. Clubs can set up their targets but not approach them until this time and sort out their list scenarios and get the deals and signings done... As for Storm, they've lost big name players...it's not just them, I've heard a number of NRL people say they don't liked the implication of disloyalty attached to their system. It's not particularly mature, in fact the way some of the situations have panned out it seems particularly childish.
  11. So 'Abe', I've heard this talked about and put up in the media but I've never understood what makes it mature. Often it's in the context of the NRL being so mature about how they handle these player trades when players come out and give their intentions 12 months out. However if you ask the Storm boys they don't like it. I've heard Cam Smith and their Footy ops man say this a number of times...it causes to much trouble. To my mind a more mature approach would be to have a strict trading period at the end of the season and no one allowed to talk to players in season and no contracts to be signed outside of this period. To hold this in place there would be massive penalties for any team/player that steps outside of the rules. No talk of player movement, no more stupid press conference questions about when are you signing. A true mature approach...dare I say too mature for the AFL...
  12. Sounds like some of the EFC supporters on Hibberd last trade period, nothing good to say about him. ...and how did he turn out???
  13. Yarren is a cautionary tale. Not saying the Stringer is in the same boat, but when a club wants to ditch a AA match winner then it has to be buyer beware.
  14. I think it's time for a break...some of this stuff is getting beyond stupid.
  15. His best footy was before he did his first knee, was a young gun. He will never reach those heights again....has the footy smarts but not the flexibility and leg speed to make him better, also only one more big injury off finished. We're better to look elsewhere, this ones not a good bet.
  16. Anyone heard of the "Whale" Roberts? Richmond traded him out and KB says it's one of the worst decisions the club made in his time. He was part of the fabric of the club, the players loved him and loved playing with him. Now think Max Gawn and you might understand why anyone in their right mind wouldn't think of trading him.
  17. Menzel is coming off 3 maybe 4 knee reco's, his best footy is behind him no matter what his age and Harmes is used as a defensive forward, a job Menzel is carp at...why he was dropped and the Cats want to trade him out.
  18. I don't want an outside mid. A player who can get his own ball, has a bit of leg speed & hits a target will do just fine.
  19. A little bit like the good old days of World Championship Wrestling. The bad guy had the foreign/illegal object hidden down his trunks and took it out to bash the good guy senseless and everyone knew it apart from the poor old ref...
  20. ...and while we're at it 'Macca', my big one is the player who uses his head as a battering ram. Rance did it in the final against Geelong last week. As the current law stands he doesn't get a free kick because he instigated the head high contact. The umpire called it right and he didn't get it. However I believe at a minimum it should be a free kick the other way and he really should get weeks. This needs to be stamped out of the game completely. I'm not talking about dropping the knees or head high tackles, I'm talking about a player who endangers himself and in turn teaches all the kids to do the same by thrusting his head into an oncoming opponent. A player like Rance has the strength from time in the weight room to take the force but it's only a matter of time when something goes wrong and we get another wheelchair bound AFL player. You might say it's his problem if he's going to do it but it goes deeper than that. I've already mentioned the kids and add to that the suburban players who take on board what is done at the higher level but also think about his opponent, how will he feel for the rest of his life.
  21. Just a little side note on the umpiring. I noticed that Shuey got caught in in tackle the same as last week (tackled correctly, moved his arm to push the tackle high) but called play on this time. I wonder how they would justify this one.
  22. 14,865 the official attendance figure... ...and that's overstating it. Lucky to be 10,000 & I reckon that's probably overstating it.
  23. Stringer is a midfielder/forward...he's had to play too much forward time at the dogs because he can kick a goal. Release him more into the midfield, that's what I would do if we had him. Not saying we get him or not but we (Macca & Jennings) would have a pretty fair idea of what we are looking at here.
  24. Separated at birth...
  25. Part of the Lever trade?
