  1. 'Wayne', you've made a good point re the metric of the Brownlow not being a good indicator of whether or not someone should be captain. I agree with you on this. However I don't think Viney is anything like Selwood as a captain. On ground I can see some similarities but off ground they are poles apart. Personally I would rather Viney step down and concentrate on playing. Nathan won't be Captain next season.
  2. I'm not sure they're defending the captains, they just don't see this as the correct metric to evaluate them and that's fair. This list shows why...
  3. Thanks for upsetting me 'Red'...
  4. No, that's fluff...
  5. This is the one thing I don't agree with you on 'Macca'... The way the draft and salary cap is set it's definitely not easy to get your base talent from trading. In fact I would say it's impossible with the current rules. No one said there wasn't luck involved but you need to draft well and have a reasonable hit rate. Father/son picks also don't hurt.
  6. Hang on there big fella.... I think you're jumping the gun a bit on the my way, or unhealthy obsession or don't want to know about it. As I pointed out the Richmond flag if they get it this year may be the first of the real traded flags. As far as waiting for a player to mature, some come in and have an immediate effect some take longer. Some traded players like Lever & May get injured and take a year or 2 to settle also. A lot of luck goes into trade as well as the draft. Nothing is right or wrong. ...but I do think you get your base talent from the draft then add to that with FA and trade.
  7. 'Macca', the Hawthorn & Geelong flags were built on the back of the draft. That's where their real talent came from. The last Collingwood one was on the back of the draft as was the WC flag. This Richmond one may be the first you could argue was built on trade/FA... ...but even the backbone of the Richmond team is built on the draft. Both Geelong and Hawthorn have tried to trade into a flag as their great teams aged but so far have had limited success and no flag to show. I reckon we went a year early on trading talent with Lever and should have gone back to the draft, we over rated the list. We will end up a middle rung team around where Hawthorn/Geelong are now at best unless we can bring in some real talent with this draft along with some FA's...and the odd good trade.
  8. Hawthorn/Box Hill says hello...
  9. He's been recruited to play on the wing but who knows where he will end up.
  10. Yes, but like the Hawks they are just sitting around the middle of the pack, not really contending and delaying the inevitable. ...at some stage Geelong is not going to be a destination club and be back to plain old "sleepy hollow"...
  11. They're done 'Red'... Apart from Ablett & Harry, The end is near for Selwood x 2, Hawkins & Tuohy. Danger can't run a long campaign carrying the team, didn't/couldn't fire a shot when needed in the 2nd half & a lot of wasted possessions in the first. Kelly will be a huge loss, kids from the draft won't cover his loss.

    Minor rant

I find these 2 words really interesting. Craft and Art... There are very few true artists in the world but the word is often overused on TV shows like the voice where there are all being called artists when many barely have a grip on their craft. There are also only the elite that could possibly be called artists as footballers, more are good at their craft and a great number of plodders at the level. The word craft when used in training terms like craft session though does conjure up the thought of kids doing art & craft at primary school, I visualise images of players sitting around doing finger painting and the like. To here the latest rubbish and mangling of the language in the name of cutting edge AFL coach speak go no further the Jennings...the man is full of this babble...
  13. Dangerfield from Gun to Popgun...
  14. Reece Stanley, the Cats version of Sam Frost...horrible decision maker.
  15. The AFL want a Richmond/Collingwood GF... As much as they love GWS, they love money more. I don't think there was bias as such but the look and the subconscious thoughts of C/wood tribunal members mean it shouldn't have happened. They've opened themselves up yet again to the conspiracy theories.
  16. Once he understood that Roos was right and he was a defender, Howe has been good. Buckley tried him forward, even promised him games as a forward to get him across the line. ...but he realised why Roos played Howe back and broke the news to him. You're a backman Jeremy. To his credit he then worked hard at his game and position. Was never going to happen at Melbourne, it took his childhood hero to put him straight in the end.
  17. They can rotate it between Richmond and Collingwood for all I care...it's about time those clubs did some real rather than token travel.
  18. Sent a text to SEN this morning asking whether they thought Blicavs would tag Martin, has him covered for run and not a problem when he goes forward...Lyon thought not, I think so... It's the right move to my mind and something that Scott would try. Let's watch what happens.
  19. I will be surprised if Worsfold lasts the season, he might not even make it to the starting gate. Just waiting for the press conference & excuse....something like family reasons is my guess.
  20. Considered a turn over merchant I thought... ...but a better turn over merchant than what we have.
  21. Not saying that at all 'hardtack', I'm sure our recruiting strategy is based on his AFL performances over his career and then what they think he can do going forward. Those just looking at Saturday night really have no idea.
  22. Not all of them....
  23. Sumich must have missed the memo 'Pennant'...
  24. Not sure you've worded this too well 'Unleash', but if we're not recruiting based on observed performances than we are truly screwed...
