I was listening to SEN on the way home and they were talking to some guy from the AFL who is National Manager to the under 18 comp. I may have got his title wrong. Anyway Fieny asked him to pick the top 3 kids in the land. He picked 4. Whitfield, Toumpas, Grundy and Wines It seems that Wines is moving up the pecking order, as all other Mock drafts etc have had him 5 -8 in the draft. Hells Gate has told us the club will pick him at 4 if available. He has the physical attributes to compete next year.

Cook may find a niche down back. No point riding him off at such any early stage

Has the MFC shot itself in the foot?
Demonsterative replied to Demonsterative's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree Dr, Its not just about Neeld, its about Bailey the FD and Board prior to 2012. I'm just questioning the I believe in Neeld posters who said we had to go backward to go forwards when the impact of that has just magnified the clubs issues. The club seems to be turning no stoned unturned for nil result. I hope by the end of Trade and FA, my thoughts are proven wrong. Yes I understand its early days. -

Has the MFC shot itself in the foot?

Some ppl are very funny. To question is not about being negative. Today has been a great day for the club. Viney with the second round is exactly what the club needed. He is a steal at this price!!!!! The idea of getting Hogan for pick 3 (tops, no pick 13 included) seems positive. Very few would know know the exact impact of this as most have not seen him play. Brynes is a positive as he will play a role the club desperately needs. I'm un decided on Dawes. He knows Neeld personaly, so i dont see him as a player defecting as a player who does not know Neeld. Everyone outside of Collingwood who matters does not want to come to the club. Even Wellingham who is from Collingwood does not want to come to us. Caddy Boak Wellingham I have not heard anything from Stevens. The club has not mentioned him. Etc Ect Dont get me wrong. The club is playing its strong position in the draft well. But only Dawes seems a reality. Life is not black or white. Its shades of ppl -
Has the MFC shot itself in the foot?

I suppose I'm worried by Emma Quayle's tweets that the club can't attract players. I personally think Neeld an co have the best intentions and are on the right track. i just question the process to get there. -
I have read on this forum countless times that the club needed a harder edge and a more defensive mind set to compete with the strong clubs and win finals football in the future. Its a case of having to go backwards to move forward. Whilst i agree with this, I cant help but think the club has shot itself in the foot. All reports say that the club is struggling to attract fringe players from other clubs. Or any players for that matter. I do not want this to turn into a 'I hate Neeld' discussion, but the un attractive style of football we have played, and the word out being the FD dept is in disarray due to and many players not 'buying in' to the new 'Culture' and Elite Performance', IMO opinion has contibuted to club being 'off limits' to the rest of the competition. Has the FD's style worked against the club this trade and FA period? My opinion is yes. At the end of last season most supporters had alot of hope the club would be on its way to be 'the hardest club to play against'. The hope extended to moving forward (or backwards) with signs the club is on the right direction. I think Mitch Clark bought into this and came to us as a result. Now the club looks like it has gone bacwards with 5 years wasted with its recruiting and development. Either way, the club cant attract new players as a result. this new build is massively important and with all the issues this year, we are struggling just as much off field with most players (inside and out of the club) not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I can see the 'In Neeld I trust' poster come into bat for the club. I trust Neeld too, but is the process the right way to go. This I question

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JESSE HOGAN
Demonsterative replied to Little Richard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Its looks as though the club are in the front running for Pick 2 in the MD. Maybe a player could be in the mix as part of the deal. GWS need a ruckman now it looks as though Giles is leaving. Maybe Martin is taking some time to think about being traded? Pick 3 and Martin for MD pick 2 (Hogan) and pick 20. This seems a fair dea to me. -
Greg Swan made a fool of Denham when he rang SEN to STRONGLY dismiss the Jack Watts to Carlton crap. I get the feeling clubs other than the MFC get frustrated with such un substantiated crap too. I loved Gregs delivery to KB. It made Denham look like a [censored] and a massive tool Denham is not worthy of the journalism tag, What is it with KB. Its like he is running a welfare program, trying to lift the profile of two writers at the Australian. WHY????

Is he a midget at 102.5 cms? or was it a typo and he 202.5. im confused

2012 Player Review - # 9 Jack Trengove
Demonsterative replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree Timestrap. Jack has had big year with the captaincy, a bigger fitness regime and working on the defensive side to his game. I expect to see a fitter, bigger and better Jack in 2013. I suspect the club will be putting alot into Jack to develop him further. Its only his 4th season too -
Agree with D/Lands strength. We could be the Collingwood of Forums. From where i'm sitting, early draft picks are not always the answer. MFC is the example
-
Maybe Demonland can have its own trade periods with other footy forums. Trade out certain posters for other posters from elsewhere If done smart, it could be a winner Just a thought

No, the board did not walk away, they were sacked. The AFL take over the PA license in a year or two (not exactly privy to the date but its soon) and the AFL has asked others to step up. Including Koshi. . Yes the SANFL are milking the Crows and PA out of money but this will soon stop especially when the Adelaide oval is ready to play football and the AFL have the license. Leon Cameron made a good decision to go to GWS. Their list of players have massive upside and they will be a force in future years. With all these changes I'd think this are looking much better for PA. Off field This is exactly the ignorance im referring too
-
I dont think people are talking about melbourne WYL. They are talking about your ignorance and crystal ball/in retrospect thinking. You would easily dump other clubs out of the competition (Port and North as two examples) whilst blindly thinking the MFC has its own place in the leaugue.
-
They also may need a Key Back with the retirement of Tarrant. I'm not sure if they have a replacement at VFL level. The pies were opened up too many times with big scores kicked on them.

2012 Player Review - # 2 Nathan Jones
Demonsterative replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was not a supporter of Jones. I saw him as a dumb footballer who was too often caught with the ball and a turn over merchant. Now, for many reasons he the perfect answer to where the club is heading. He bought into the Neeld way of things He had the fitness to play the Neeld way. I believe the new development coaches is testiment on how a player can improve. This makes me hopeful When our younger players reach similar fitness and experience i hope/believe they will see similar improvement if not more. Congratulations Nathan you are an example for others to follow. Great leadership. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES
Demonsterative replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
If the club is smart, and they seem to be saying the right things. The club wont mortgage itself buy paying overs for other trades or FA's. I hope the club is taking pick 3 and 4 off the table regardless of the Viney situation. Pick 13 is up for grabs and Dawes and Wellingham would be a good get. Collingwood need to trade to release salary cap pressure. No need to give them a trump card to another star by giving away our top picks. The way i see it, is that Collingwood require a forward/ruckman and Key Position Back to replace Tarrant. Maybe Martin could be the bait to entice the Pies to play Martin down back. Neeld spoke about being the hardest club to play against. I hope this extends to whole FD and not just the players. -
Moonshadow here is a story from The Age. The link is http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/dees-need-to-show-grunt-for-bailey-20110602-1fiwb.html The article reports the following For his own sake, the coach needs to get tougher with his troops. The Melbourne Football Club say the Blues insulted them last week by claiming that the Demons prefer to play ''bruise-free'' footy. If that's not a slap in the face then nothing is. But the stats will prove that the Carlton mouths, led by Mitch Robinson, Brock McLean and Dennis Armfield, are right. No its not a direct quote but a story reporting Brock to be one of the players who claimed the MFC played bruise free football that day I dont think Brock is joking. Anyone (including Brock despite your high opinion on his intellect. Are you sure your not angry?) would know that such a tweet would upset, anger many. Including the club.
-
As the thread topic says, Dunn looks to be a stayer. why put him in a sprint. Coming last! At least the club is consistent.
-
I think your wrong. Brock was also involved in the 'Bruise Free' football comments. He has taken many opportunities to undermine the club since his departure. You could argue he is angry as he was devoted to the club when he was on our list and donated generously. Maybe he is harbouring a gripe as he was put up for trade. If it is humour its in very bad taste and not appreciated by the club.
-
The MFC should take this tweet to the AFL and bring up the obvious issue, Brock has anger issues with the MFCand is trying to undermine the club. This undermines his allegation of Tanking. Silly Boy.

Sorry OD, Dale is also said to have a sublime voice and sings in his school choir. Expect to see him on The Voice next series
-
Latest News. Dale Roberts was caught out late drinking numerous times and is said to be a 'Tool' who cant manage his anger. He has been charged with multiple charges including 'Drunk and Disorder', 'Assault' and Stalking. Apparently his ex girlfriend has put a protection order against him. This news is coming out of the MFC. 17 clubs have now gone cold on Dale. The Demons are now hoping to pick Dale up with a 3 round pick

Keith "Bluey" Truscott - Best & Fairest
Demonsterative replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
While I love all this speculation and insider information I find it hard (and worrying) that the club would let slip its strategy. I understand the club may not entirely know how they will place itself come the Daft, Mini Draft, Free Agency and Trade periods until other clubs play their hand, but to let slip or insinuate which way we are heading is some what concerning to me. I hope the club is trying to promote hope and anticipation rather than letting ppl know what the clubs plans. If they are being (too) transparent, this in lies a cultural problem. What Jetta said is different. Planning on playing finals is the minimum standard that should be aspired by the whole club
