  1. Lets hope he goes to trial prior to our list lodgement date. Would be a shame to delist poor Ricky Petterd if we didn't have to.
  2. Thats where your wrong. The club decides where the player goes. You saw what happened with Mitch Clarke, he wanted to go home to Fremantle to be with family, but Freo couldn't get the TRADE done. Even if Freo offered 3 million a year to Clarke last year the fact was that they couldn't get the TRADE done, so they didn't get him. We did. If the player is not happy with the money then they can go to the draft, where ANYONE CAN DRAFT THEM, and still pay that player whatever they like. Money is a secondary factor with Trading. It's a primary factor with free-agency. We should use it where it is a primary factor.
  3. You pay them more to keep them happy, its not a must. Also in regards to the contract, if they are still under contract and the trade is good enough, sometimes the team that the player comes from continues to pay out some/all of the contract as they signed the contract. Not the club the player is going to.
  4. Its not about the money. Port Adelaide couldn't give a sh#t what we pay Boak. All they care about is what draft picks/players they get in return. If we TRADE for Caddy for example, we can pay him whatever we want. Money isn't an issue for TRADING. Money is an issue with FREE AGENCY which is why we should use our money on Free Agents.
  5. As i have already said many times, we TRADE for Boak or other mids, not lure them with money. If we trade for them then they are FORCED to come to us, otherwise go in PSD. Money is not needed to entice/lure when they are TRADED. Them wanting to come to us is a luxury we dont need players to have. It is a nice-to-have thing.
  6. Its more about keeping there options open for the trade period. By bidding they would be cramping themselves and lose out on potential options during trade period and for what? 1 pick higher in there 2nd round? (If they even have a 2nd round pick, they may want to trade that also) The risk is not worth the benefit.
  7. Explain how getting Cloke will hamper us in getting mids when such big coin isn't needed to trade. Just because we get Cloke, it will not stop us from trading for Boak It would only hamper us if there was other A grade mids who we could get with F/A as our coin would be to tied up to go all out for multiple F/A's
  8. Can you suggest a player we can acquire then for the coin we have thats a mid? Would you rather Cloke, pick 3, 4, 12 and Viney (3- 4 mids) = Tall forward + 3 - 4 mids. Or Boak, pick 3, 12 and Viney ( 3 - 4 mids) We end up with more getting a Free agent. I am sure if Dane Swan or Ablett was a F/A we would be throwing the coin at them instead but unfortunately there are no A grade mids in F/A and there is an abudance of them in the draft. You would be foolish to think that our forward line doesn't need propping up. and if we trade for a Boak why would we even want to give him the big coin anyway, we traded for him so he is forced to come to us or go in the PSD. Big coin is not needed for trading!
  9. Doubt they'll bid. GWS most likely will finish last and will wont risk missing Lachie or Grundy. GC will consider trading for an u17 with there first pick, so they wont risk bidding on Viney either as they ll want that pick available to trade with. We'll be ok, the benefits of them bidding does not compare to the risk.
  10. If gc are contemplating trading there first pick for an u17 then they wont use it to bid on viney.
  11. Simple, no free agent mids worth the coin. We draft them. Unless u know of any mids worth 1.1m a yr thats a free agent?
  12. Calm down champ. Obviously its a high level scenario and there would be more involved. No need to get ur knickers in a twist
  13. These compensation picks for teams losing players to FA is the AFL adding currency out of nothing. I hope Bates manager scores him a good enough contract to get us a late 2nd round pick. We should be as active as possible in FA to get our share of this extra currency the AFL is pumping into the system.
  14. Petrie has only had a handful of good games over several seasons AND we would need to give up draft picks or good players for him. Clokes value is probably 500k or so higher because we give nothing in return to the filth. I was having a think about it before, teams who do not participate in FA miss out the most as theoretically every time a player changes hands compensation picks are created out of thin air by the AFL. Teams who do not participate by taking players or losing players miss out altogether on there cut and the benefits of these compensations created on the fly by the AFL.
  15. I am half expecting at least 3 years worth of injuries for them. That way we cant blame them or embrace them. List clogging drafting at its finest.
  16. I am Neeld fan but Taggart and Tynan arn't exactly setting the world on fire either.
  17. You, like many others, fail to see why we are offering what appears to be 'overs' for Cloke. Besides all the obvious benefits (Structure, contesting marking in forward 50 ect) , we also have to pay NOTHING TO COLLINGWOOD. Draft picks are priceless and the fact that we have to give up none to Collingwood is the reason why we are throwing so much money into this. If we were giving up draft picks for a standard 'trade' then their is no way teams would be throwing this type of coin at Cloke. I hope we get him, Cloke, Viney + 2 - 3 other mids, im watering at the mouth already.
  18. Someone asked Caroline wilson on Footy Classified last night what she rated scully out of 10 for his performance this year. She gave him a 3/10, think she was being generous.
  19. Offer him 1.1 million over 7 seasons and Hawkins may have a different mindframe about the idea.\ Even to just stir the pot a bit
  20. How far-fetched do you think a 3 way like this would be Melb - pick 3 to port Port- Boak to geelong Geelong - Hawkins to melb I would pay pick 3 for hawkins in a heartbeat, pay him the coin we had aside for Cloke and we have filled that hole of having a good contested marker in our forward line.
  21. at least the '-4' part is gone from Jurrah 2-4 They should just put 'season' everytime that guy gets injured.
  22. Reason his price sounds so high is because we do not need to give up anything to collingwood. Get the deal done MFC
  23. Champion. At least another year in him!
