what a trooper...would love it if the boys could get up and win a flag for him while he's still able to raise the cup would love to on the last week of...make that the first week of october, see jimmy stynes next to premiership winning captain trengove and coach neeld raise that cup and holding on for dear life like bobby davis r.i.p sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it. long live the jim

you question garland's exit but accept rivers, runner up in our best and fairest last year, is a certainty to go? garland basically has the same attributes as morton (+3kg -1cm) and morton is too skinny to be a winger... garland doesn't have the pace to be a rebounding defender, but his frame is too light to crash a pack. seems like he's in no-mans land, though i'll concede his name could probably be in a "needs to have a big 2012" thread rather than one about "who is getting axed" (also at time of original post thought that tom mc might continue down back but that seems unlikely. added to that, with sellars at hb galrand might be able to play the 3rd tall but would hate to see both him and rivers as stand-offish 3rd man up only defenders)

love it if clark could play his next 200+ games consecutive in the hallowed #11

Cheers to everyone who not only takes the time to go out and see the boys run laps but then does the write-ups. Sounds like exciting times ahead... Did anybody see where Jack Grimes played during the mini scratch match?
-
theres alot of chatter on here about lawrence on here, where does the excitement come from? can't really remember seeing his name in the best for casey, he's not another 180-190cm skinny "strong overhead" type is he?
-
jetta and morton will have to have their best year to stay on the list i think dunn will be going at the end of the year with the emergence of tom mcdonald/ stef martin and even sellars as defenders could garland and rivers have there necks on the chopping block? bartram reminds me alot of matty whelan with his attack on the ball and the man but unfortunately he just doesn't have the execution to play the modern game

I live on the Gold Coast so it's a little difficult to make it to training sessions, but could someone who goes please take special note of: • Jack Grimes - whether he trains fully and if so with defence or mids; • Tom McDonald - whether he trains with forwards or backs; • Jordie McKenzie - whether he has bulked up at all; and • any news on the draftees? Any insights are always appreciated because I'm sure there are plenty of interstaters like myself who would love to be able to attend but just physically can't get there. I think that the three name players and of course the draftees could be massive to our chances of turning it around in 2012 and if I could be on the boundary myself they are who I'd be looking out for.

Even without all the question marks, percieved or real, is he the type of player we need? Seems to me we have an over abundance of skinny, lead up marking players. Shouldn't we instead be looking for some solid mid-fielders or some big bodies (90kg+) for up forward or down back?
-
i too am getting sick of alot of posts in here that have nothing to do with training news and could probably go to the slag scully thread if i want to have a rant about how hard done by we were then i go to the relevant thread but its starting to get a little ridiculous. this is the training update thread so can't we content ourselves to bagging Gysberts and Blease about their lack of endurance and condemn each other for percieved flaws in hypothetical game-plans that will not be validated for another 4months?

would love to see us pick up sheehan, williams, crisp and nelson but doubt we will have our pick of all 4 if crisp and nelson fell through to us it would be brilliant but doubtful. sheehan and williams on the otherhand should both be available to us
-
why not? its this thinking that keeps Fev off lists despite kicking bags in the VFL. if he's got his [censored] together and says he's clean and healthy and dedicated to the MFC then why not pick him up as a rookie? that is of course dependent on if he is good enough. seems to me that if bate and taggert (nicho, tappy, petterd maybes) are going into the midfield then we could probably hold off until next season when we get viney and co. using our compo picks in a much richer draft pool. despite what i just wrote, would prob take nelson and/or sheehan ahead of almost all other options

hussey should've set up an "i'll drop you if you drop me" deal like clarke did lol

i play both, and each has its own idiosynchroses...the scoring system on supercoach allows to hirer scores but relies alot more on effieciency and penalises mistakes heavily. DreamTeam on the other hand is just about base stats so someone like batram if he got 10 kicks he will score 30points on dt but if they are all clanger kicks he will actually be in negative points on supercoach its interesting by the end of the season to compare your 2 teams and see the differences and similarities edit- love batrams atttack on the ball and the man, but hope he gets some kicking practice in over the pre-season

there's ways to play the game tough and ways to play the game dirty...a player like mitch robinson straddles the line and players like mckenzie plays the game harder than most but to my knowledge has never been suspended or even reported. i agree whole-heartedly that michael long should not have been allowed to leave that incident without claret spraying everywhere but that would be retaliation rather than instigation. i mourn the loss of alot of the passion and fire of the 80's but there still needs to be the differentiation between hard but fair, and being a thug who plays outside the rules

how can they announce jonny bones v suga rashad when jones still has to fight machida on the 10th.
-
patricia dangerfield? thought we were trying to get rid of the "soft" image...gets trengove rubbed out for 3 weeks and then kicks 6goals the next week. no thank you not what i want at the dee's
-
good point, they might be taking a page out of collingwoods book...no middle ground either love em or hate em and its gotten the pies 70k+ members last season and 50k in 2010 so i guess if you're willing to cop the slings and arrows there are rewards to be had
-
while he may not have sent the runner out with explicit instructions, its widely accepted that most ex-player coaches train their charges to play in their own style...e.g chris scott adding a hard edge to the cats or the lions being overhyped under voss lol sheedy was a dirty player who turned into a dirty coach who teaches young players to play the game dirty...still get angry when i talk about michael long running through troy simmonds in the gf and just have to hope that the youngsters who make a break for freedom back to vic are able to do so without any permanent hang ups

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MITCH CLARK
rolly replied to waynewussell's topic in Melbourne Demons
hope he plays a role for the dee's like drew petrie does for the roo's...with Sellars going to the back line it means that Martin and Jamar can continue to rotate 1 in the ruck 1 resting/ forward...Clark should NOT be used in the ruck unless as a last resort or very occasionally in the forward line, should be allowed to play as a full time full forward -
when the suns came in there was of course the poaching of Ablett Jnr but whether it was location or more likely, good management, the suns became just about everyones 2nd favourite club. nobody likes gws...they had the same if not better opportunities that the suns had but instead of doing it the right way they put Sheedy in charge...SHEEDY! i mean, he spat in the face of an opponent while playing just to slow the play down. his reign at Essendon, while it supplied our recent heartbreak in 2000, was constantly surrounded by controversy as his charges got suspended for everything from tripping, striking and i think Fletcher even got suspended for wobbling a goal post! why would you put this man in charge of a brand new franchise full of u 20's?? alot of the nations talented youth is ending up in Blackhole Town, just hope they don't get too warped and twisted by a regime of coniving snake oil salesmen over the next 2 years

Interesting theory...interested on your reasoning that Sydney will slide drastically down the ladder while St Kilda play in september again

I just want this on the record this early After having watched the interview with Aaron Greaves, I believe he will take over from Mark Neeld in 10 years time. He started his coaching under Neeld and will go through a grooming/ mentorship period so that after Neeld has served the club for the best part of a decade and taken us to multiple flags (why not??) he will take over and lead us for a decade more ... It also feels good to see alot of young excited athletic coaches instead of the paunch tucked into the track pants, Sheedy-esque style clip board coaches. I believe nathan jones even knocked a couple on the arses; Sheeds would break his hip This stability will allow solid short-term and long-term planning for game plan and player development.
-
imagine if sellars or martin could step up in defence along with garland and rivers to a level where chip could be freed up to play a harry o'brien style defencive role. think about it, he's strong enough and good enough overhead to win the contest at half back and the way he ran down lewis jetta on the MCG wing a couple of years back proves he has the pace,.. very reliant on afore mentioned players stepping up and that is a massive if

thanks to GW$ taking the dodgy knee off our hands we get a compensation pick for next year. jack viney will force us to use our first round draft pick to claim him under the father son rule but thanks to the compo pick which can be activated after the first live pick we still get to pick up whoever we want anyway and we don't have half our salary cap going to the injured list... good luck to GW$ when they get 32 games out of there $6mil over the length of his contract

how can anyone leave out jordie mckenzie?? love that kid, he's the hardest worker in the team and 9 times out of 10 he's at the bottom of the pack. this is all while he's still scrawny and proves its the size of the dog in the fight that matters most. look forward to watching him go 100miles an hour at every contest for the next decade
