Fair call! -
Chook, I wouldn't go that far. It just feels that he is overly pained at times to emphasize what he does for the club and it doesn't always ring true. Having said that, he owes the club nothing.

Bloody hell. Officially nervous about next Sunday. -
I find Garry's relationship with Melbourne puzzling at times.

By that I mean, physical doesn't have to mean stupid. Tappy strays into that area a little too much.

Agree, DeeOldFart, We will rise this year. I tried to look at last nights game as reference to where we are at. What I did see from Essendon was pressure when the other team has the ball. They made a number of Crows look very ordinary. For me, it's as much what we do when we don't have the ball. It's obvious to say, but we need players who are prepared to gut run to help out deep. Jobe Watson exemplified that last night. And Heath Hocking, a solid unit, provided a good lesson for Tappy in terms of getting the blend right.

The real beauty of games against Port is that, in the members, as I suspect all around the ground, if you want to grab a quick beer bar access is brilliant. Walk straight up. It comes in handy if the Dees are looking shaky.

Hard track, I don't think Pipefitter was blaming him, just making a pretty reasonable observation -

I'm in if you can organize it -
The trouble with our football scribes is that they never get it wrong. We could finish 10th and you wouldn't get a peep out of Denham. The good thing, however, is that he is largely irrelevant in the scheme of things. He's been doing his schtick for a long time but, for mine, still relatively unknown given time in the caper. That may say something. Stick it right up em Dees.

Josh, I'm not so sure Viney will have an immediate impact. So mark him down as having an immediate impact. -

I'm really hoping Rory Taggert can show something this weekend. I've been spruiking him as one to watch and for once I'd like to get one right! ( see Cale Morton and Lucas Never Played a Game Cook) -

And dare I say, I'd like Melbourne to be more like Collingwood in that the supporters are constantly defending their players rather than running them down. Hate Collingwood but they do stick fat.

What did we have last season? 4 wins? I'm going every week I can because we have recruited some great young talent and whilst we won't be top 8, we should win at least 6 games. And by the second half of the season we will be looking at Jimmy Toumpas and Jack Viney and feeling considerably better about midfield depth.
-
It's wrong to suggest that the issue is purely lack of big bodies in the midfield. Our issue last year was the speed of the spread when we got it. You only have to go back to the very first game against Brisbane last year. We won our fair share of ball ups around the ground ( Magner was in and under) but couldn't move it out of the area with speed. People get very carried away with this idea that big bodies alone around the stoppages is the panacea. I'd argue that Ablett, Rioli, Judd and Swan are significantly smaller than Moloney is for example.

Can Melbourne win a premiership with its current list?

Depends if they can invent a time machine -
Not a huge NRL fan but you see it with Storm blokes Cam Smith and Cooper Kronk. Jimmy Bartel and Luke Hodge spring to mind also.
