  1. Newton will get a chance when he overcomes whatever is ailing him, but I have very low expectations. No ticker and even less pace.
  2. Bell is a very limited footballer. Tries hard, but is just not good enough. I'm not sure of his contract situation, but if he was out of contract I'd trade or delist.
  3. I'll cut Frawley some slack, but right now Frawley, Dunn, and Bell look like dubious first round selections.

    Bartram

Great goer, all heart, but will never play in a premiership side. Not enough class. I still love the guy.
  5. McLean will be a solid meat and potatoes 200 gamer, but I doubt he'll ever be elite. And you're right about his lack of awareness. He doesn't have a weapon. He doesn't evade like Judd, handball like Black, mark like Bartel, or swivel like Mitchell and Kerr. He's just a solid citizen. And there's nothing wrong with that, but some need to lower their expectations.
  6. I'm embarrassed to support a club that is so quick to sell its history and tradition. The jumper is revolting and unrecognisable to the MFC. It's the first thing I'd change given an opportunity.
  7. I understand your concerns and think they're worthy of concern, although half the battle to being a good Chairman is galvanising the Club, and I think this is the Ace up Stynes' sleeve. It's also the role being played by Brayshaw at North. Was Alan Bond good at the Tigers, or Lindsay Fox at the Saints. Being a President/Chairman is more than just business savvy. Although, as I said, I understand your concerns.
  8. Why ? Were Valenti's 12 possessions that much better than Bartram's 15 against Hawthorn ? And you were unimpressed with Bartram keeping McLeod to 12 touches in a tagging role the previous game ? Open your eyes. That said, I would have preferred Valenti to stay in the team this week.
  9. And of course there are varying interpretations of "elite".
  10. Don't talk to me about pace being a buzz word. I lamented this club's lack of pace 5 years ago, not yesterday. I'm aware of what McLean brings to the table as evidenced by numerous postings over the last few years, but his lack of pace and awareness impacts more on his game than some would like to believe. You jumped on my thoughts about Jones and McLean being judged too harshly on another forum as if they were your own when I highlighted the unfair expectations of kids leading the midfield and contested possessions, so I'm well aware of his age and the burden he carries. Unfortunately, he won't get faster and doesn't have Black's clean hands, or vision. Whilst he's hard at the contest he's just not great at getting out clean disposal in tight. But, as I said, he's a solid 200 gamer. I doubt he'll ever be elite, but hope I'm wrong. Some peanuts here will think I'm potting him, which of course is far from the case.
  11. His lack of pace and awareness on occasions is a little concerning, but he's a solid 200 gamer. He's lacked a little desperation in a couple of games this year, which surprised me, but all in all he's a fine young player. Any disappointmet I have is due to once very lofty expectations.
  12. Some won't agree with me, but imo we've not had a genuine superstar of the competition since Flower. I also believe that premierships are almost always won when good teams are topped up by superstars - and yes they've rarely been pick one. The AFL have created a system where poor performances are rewarded with access to the best talent in the land, and with far better talent identification these days the prospect of having picks 1 or 2 are invaluable. Would a club trade pick 1 or 2 these days ? There's not a realistic scenario where they would, as Hawthorn wouldn't trade Buddy for pick one and there's probably no other player that would get that kind of deal done. I don't like losing and I want to see our team have a crack every time they take the field. And if the result at year's end determines we have pick one or two I'll be very happy. The Saints have shown that the best picks won't guarantee success, but the Hawks have shown that great talent with the right culture goes a long way.
  13. You're right. Corey was sensational before he became a dud. His best didn't last long enough unfortunately. His younger brother looks very very good. PS - why don't you join Bomberblitz ? I'm sure you'd find it far more rewarding.
  14. I'm not sold yet and get very nervy when the ball is in his hands, but he's athletic and quick, which are terrific attributes in the modern game. Definitely worth persisting with. I've already eaten a little bit of pie today and am not ready for another serve.
  15. Hurley is going to be a 250 game champion KPP. S. McKernan will be a gun. Better than his brother. Heyne has a touch of class and flair but looks like he could go missing. Scully will be a gun mid but isn't eligible. Rockliff is a nice mark and kick, but looked a little under sized. How tall is he ? Appearances can be deceiving and I could be wrong about his size. He's a very nice looking player.
  16. In time, I think that you'll reassess this opinion. He's far better than I imagined and has an exceptional future. Leon Davis, who is rightly being lauded for a fine year, has taken until his 9th season to surpass Aussie's year thus far. In his previous 8 years his stats don't measure up to what Wonaeamirri has so far dished up. Whilst they bring different qualities to the Dees, I am already certain that Aussie will be remembered as a far superior player to Davey. And I am prepared to eat a little humble pie.
  17. We have the most embarrassing soft cork supporters in the competition. Unfortunately I know plenty. They turn up when things are rosy. Most Dees barrackers make me want to puke.
  18. I'll call it as I see it.
  19. Purely for accuracy - 8.
  20. And yet the facts are he'd still be rooky listed at any other club, irrespective of what the future holds. We still have arguably the worst list in the comp. That said, our under 23's are in the upper echelon. But you wouldn't understand this, cos you're a dill.
  21. He was great and is a terrific prospect, so why are you sad ? As I said, he's a ray of light in a bleak tunnel. It will take a lot more for me to get excited. But today we celebrate. Knock yourself out, kid.
  22. In the inimitable words of Jan-Michael Vincent from Big Wednesday, "you old fart".
  23. It was a must that we recruited Judd. Thoughtful people knew this. And may God condemn his soul.
  24. Nothing. He's a precious little soul who's down on confidence. When he's down on confidence he doesn't work hard for himself, or his teammates. He epitomises the MFC and is about as useful as a cold pie.
