Cody Weightman (Drafted by Western Bulldogs)
All I recall was that as soon as we traded to pick 8 there were journalists linking us with Weightman straightaway. It wasn't that we were after a small forward, It was implied that we traded to pick 8 especially to pick this particular player.

Yep. I don't want my small forwards to be flying for marks. I want them staying on the ground waiting for the crumbs. I don't recall Jetta ever flying for marks though.

Like RustyNails, I've downloaded the NAB League App to watch this kid.The highlights are from his Dandenong Stingrays games only. He doesn't look like the small forward you would spend pick 8 on. He looks like a really solid player and if we still had pick 21 or 26 i'm sure we would be hoping he was still there. I really expected from media reports and trade radio that he was a cunning goal sneak like Davey, Barlett or Milne. That isn't what the highlights showed at all unfortunately. He looks like a medium half forward who just happens to be short. I really want to see the highlights from his Vic Country games as I know this is where he kicked 8 in two games and this could change my mind.

Hayden Young (Drafted by Fremantle)
They lost actually. Straight down the other end for a goal. But you are not wrong. I downloaded the NAB League App and they have an excellent highlights section on most players which shows individual game involvements. Young isn't afraid of a contested posession. He positions himself well for the receive handball. That freak kick inside wasn't a one off, he regularly looks to make long passes into space. He consistently makes the right decision.Of course there are times where he stuffs it up, but they are few and far between. He is the captain of the Stingrays. I couldn't be more impressed by the highlights I watched. The other I went looking for was Weigtman and I was really not impressed at all.

- Beware of Pick 6!!!
I noticed that Pick 4 has been a bit of a dud. The average is most likely influenced by us picking Morton and Toumpas at pick 4 and completely [censored] the average up.- Jack Martin
Tell him that we will take him in the PSD if he nominates. Force him to talk to us or nominate for the ND. If he nominates for the ND it's possible that a club like the Crows or Freo would pick him up without giving a [censored] where he wants to go.- Wylie Buzza
Buzza? Yeah why not. Talks take awhile.- Caleb Serong (Drafted by Fremantle)
Thankyou. I went looking earlier in the week and couldn't find anything. I think I'm getting old. Looks like a great footballer who can do a bit of everything well. His height puts me off big time. As Males said earlier, we have a few similar types. I just don't think he will be able to do what he does as well against the bigger bodies in the AFL- Caleb Serong (Drafted by Fremantle)
Where did you see these highlights?- Farewell to Our First Pick in 2020
So we give up next year's first rounder for a great first round pick this year. But then give up our 2nd and third round pick this year... I would want something else back. Possibly their future 2nd or 3rd round pick. It's possible we are a rabble again and our first rounder would be pick 1 or 2- Ben King
https://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-02/trading-firstround-picks-afls-most-misunderstood-rule-explained NOTE: THIS ARTICLE IS FROM LAST YEAR. The confusing thing is working out when the 4 year rolling period beings and ends. I would have thought that we had to use one this year as we haven't used any since 2015. Turns out that we don't and that the 2015 period counts within the four year period. 2015: 2 picks 2016: 0 2017: 0 2018: 0- Splitting Draft Pick 3
They don't have those picks anymore. They have pick 6 now.- Joel Smith
It doesn't. Plus I can't see any pictures on his insta from the gym- WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
It doesn't seem fair. Not for Freo anyway. I rate him at around pick 15 - 20. So in my opinion we will be getting a steal if we only pay pick 22.- Brandon Ellis (now a Sun)
Hmmmm. Interesting. I recall when the process was first introduced that the system took far more into account. Things like: 1. Which pick was used to draft the player 2. Where the player had finished in recent BnF. It sounded to me at the time that they were just making it up as they went along and I doubted there was a formula. I haven't changed my mind.- WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
But he hasn't struggled at GWS? Strange post- Brandon Ellis (now a Sun)
The AFL could simply reveal the 'secret' formula they use to determine compensation. Clubs should know what they will receive before deciding if they will match bids. etc. I hate the way the AFL is run.- Brandon Ellis (now a Sun)
Richmond taking the [censored] asking for a first rounder for Ellis- Brendan McCartney on SEN
Gus has some tricks. I could see him to a flank later in his career. Similar to Lewis. He certainly looks a bit out of place playing on a wing right now though- Brendan McCartney on SEN
To start with. I wouldn't play him. Not till he was over his injuries to a sufficient amount to get back to his normal level. This is the issue with him IMO. He is perpetually playing injured. We rarely see him at his best and have only seen snippets over the past 2 years. He played some decent games towards the back end of the year (which many refused to notice btw). I don't think you give him enough credit for his defensive capabilities. I think his best games are when he goes head to head. His defensive work [censored] all over Brayshaw in games where Brayshaw isn't tagging (which isn't often). I agree with you though. He is inside mid or nothing. Just like Jones. Hoping he can get back to his best next season.- Jamie Elliott
Disagree 100%. Very good when he is on the park. Injuries are the only concern.- Jamie Elliott
You realise it doesn't simply work like that right? You must get flabbergasted a lot.- Brendan McCartney on SEN
Viney knows how to get the ball just about better than anyone. He doesn't need any advice or to change his approach at all. It's his ability to cover ground, spread from stoppages and truly woeful disposal at times which is the problem. Unfortunately, he has been injured far too often and it won't surprise me to hear post career about how many games he fought through pain. He would be brilliant with a good run but like VDB, I doubt he will ever get it due to the way he plays. But I have to say that I'm [censored] sick of posters asking for him to be traded. Is he the best leader judging by the outside? No, probably not. Is he a leader. Yes. Undeniably. Should a team who lack leadership and have a reputation for being soft trade their captain who would run through brick walls for the club? No. And he certainly doesn't need to change the way he gets the ball.- Billy Stretch
Yep. Free to a good home token trade. - Beware of Pick 6!!!
