There will be some Tassie players that want to come home to play for Tassie, and I've seen you post this in other threads too, but I'm curious why you are more concerned about Tassie players going home than WA, or SA or players from other states? Don't think it's been determined yet. However I suspect the list managers will be more concerned about the compromised draft. That being said, the AFL won't be putting anything in place to compel the other teams to give up Tasmanian players only. It's a set of rules that will allow the tassie team to select from any players on the list (obviously there might be some untouchables)

Rumours that Schoenmaker is a sneaky chance at a late 1st round, and there is also Jack Callinan (son of Ian Callinan) as a small forward that could also be taken. Don't remember the last time 5 Tassie players were chosen in a single draft. Let alone 3-4 potentials for the first round!

I'd like petrol prices under $2 a litre, a Hella Mega Tour announcement, and probably to lose a few more kgs. Oh I'd also like Ryley Sanders and James Leake as our picks for 6 & 11. Mick Stinear to play a role with our men's team, and Mick Warner and Mark Robinson to be sued by Goodwin after we win the flag. ... I'm not fussy.

Don't get me wrong, he looks a nice player, but not sure we are lacking outside run on the wings are we? If anything I think we are needing quality off HBF. I would have thought we are ok placed with our current wings, and Howes and Woewodin currently?

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Ouch! replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep thats what I thought to.... although I think May might be a bit quicker. Shoenmaker has a much more fluid kicking action than O'Sullivan as well, if I had a criticism of what I have seen, he has an awkward ball drop. -
2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

I like Arie Schoenmaker as well.... booming left boot, looks like he's got a good frame on him, and Walters, Curtin and McKercher all put pretty big wraps on him. Paid a bit of a penalty (10 weeks) early in the season for getting on the sauce, But came back strongly in the second half of the season, and his game v Vic Metro was a bit of a stand out. Guess it depends on when/if recruiters see the need for a big bodied defender. Given we have Jed Adams also on the list. -
2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

If Tas comes into the national comp in 2028. These players will be what age? 22 maybe 23? If they are good, and I hope they all are, then I assume some form of compensation, possibly like free agency. Besides not all will want to play for Tassie, or even if they do, they won't do it all at once either. Drafting from Tas really won't be any different really than WA or any other state based player for the MFC. Players like Ryley Sanders have been in Melbourne this year and played for Sandringham in the Coates League. -
The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Ouch! replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Tracc and Gus are 27. Oliver 26, Hardly 'getting on' ;) But I do agree that we need to be ensuring depth behind these guys, and other than Sparrow (and maybe Rivers), we do need to have the next crop coming through. -
He schooled in Adelaide, and the major transport hubs (i.e airports etc still would require him to travel via Adelaide) so it's still closer to home than Melbourne.

I thought that Hunter looked good in 2023 because I don't think Langdon had a great year. .... then I had the thought that Langdon didn't have as good a year as 2021 and 2022 as we we played a large portion of our attack through him and Jordon and Brayshaw played more as a defensive wing. Phew! Two thoughts before 10am there. I'm out till lunch soz

People!!! stop with all the legitimate examples coming so fast, take your time please as requested so @IRW in turn can take a bit of time to process what just happened!
-
... and yet we bought Hunter into the club given his issues were known whilst at the dogs. If the club thought that they can bring someone in and they would buy into our culture I don't see a problem.

Why Melbourne Must Hire a Coach to Solve Their Forward Woes
Ouch! replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Max has introduced a much more noticeable arc in his approach in the last year or so, he's always had it to some degree, but it's no doubt him trying to still be able to kick beyond 50. -
... unless you were offloading TMac or BBB to make room for him, why would you have three almost retired and past their best forwards on our list.
-
Except sliding back for academy picks and f/s isn’t an issue…. It’s the compensation picks that hurt and they conclude today. …. WCE don’t get a rats toss if 3 gc academy picks , a bulldog and a hawks bids causes picks to slide down cos the players that that CAN chose from slide down as well... I’m not sure why people wring their hands so much about this. if Jed Walter and Ethan Reid get bids before Daniel Curtin…. Daniel Curtin slides just like the pick does… he’s not any less attainable at 6 or 8, hence the value of the pick is no less valuable (except for points) but that’s not the concern here.

You mean opposition players will want to deck him, and him being 170cm means that 70% of tackles will always land high?
-
Riley Beveridge countered Cornes with "Do you think Melbourne cares about a few places in the draft order if he manages to snag them a premiership in the next couple of years?" He also indicated that Melb were arguably one of the better performing teams over the finals period (A bit of a stretch perhaps) but that if Petty was there instead of TMac, then could they have rolled the Pies in the QF. ... Cornes didn't really like that argument I thought. But the most important take from this is that I need to stop listening to AFL Trade Radio, it's not good for your health!
-
so you think WC hold the pick until draft night and do a live trade? I was thinking the same, likely to get the Hail Mary pass from Nth or Melb at that point in time.
-
Or he has a very good manager, that knows how to drive up the price of his player.
-
The all of the picks Nth offered were outside the top 10 though... Nth didn't offer 2 or 3. The picks we have would be more valuable that picks in the late teens.
-
3 first round picks and Petty? ummm, hell no! I know there is talk about 6,11 and F1 for Pick1, but I think we'd want change in return later on (for Brown) .... that means Petty for McAdam! Lemme guess Adam Cooney came up with that megatrade? I swear they just give him the megatrades to stop him from contributing too much to the conversation!
-
Future 1st you mean? Roos didn't trade their future 2nd round.
-
Was Jason Taylor at the club for the Kelly draft? I thought it was still Barry Prendergast?
-
Really? I think Chin was good this year, his form dip coincided with the drop in quality of delivery to the forward line. Don't think Billings is going to be a tackling and seeking the contest, he's more an uncontested type of player suited to HFF and wing, rather than deep forward. He's more a Spargo side grade or an ANB downgrade :D

As much as we said we'll facilitate a trade, he has another 4 years to run on his contract. MFC don't need to trade him out. Sydney need a ruck to replace Hickey. Just because he's surplus for us at the moment does not mean he doesn't have trade currency. He's a 2x Copeland winner and a 2x All Australian. We paid slightly cheaper than normal to get him off the pies books. Sydney should be paying full market price not the discount price.
