Yes Champion Data have a broken tackle stat but unfortunately not publicly available
-
Yep he goes ok. There's a player in there given time, some decent coaching, guidance and at least 50+ games under his belt. Too early to write him off. He has the white line fever in him as well which is something you can't teach but critical as a base line starting attitude at this level. More of this in our future recruits plus skills & some leg speed pls.
-
I agree, we've regressed badly since his departure in the fitness dept. Most teams have gone past us and we rarely play out four quarters now.
-
As i called a few weeks ago, season over. Fix the broken and rest anyone who's carrying a niggle. Its time to play Jeffo, Brown dog and Sestan. Viney rest Bring in Fullo for Max and get him set for next season. He's obviously still NQR. Can't question the effort from most. Plenty of outs. But gee we play a junk brand of footy now. Not enough players running to support, not enough leg speed in general. We don't change lanes very often by foot and our work by hand is up there with the worst in the league. Mostly easy to defend as we continue to just run in straight lines and kick in straight lines. My fear is not only do we lack some mids and a quality KF, if we continue with the same coaching staff we are just going to see more of the same old rubbish game style and meanwhile lose so many of our greats as the years pass. And once that happens we'll be set back a good 5 to 8 years and into a major rebuild plus a new coach or two along the way. We had one of the great mid line ups in recent history and didn't cash in when we had the chance. Yes 21 was a beauty but we needed to make more of the golden era. It's been a bit of a botch up by the FD since 2021 in far too many aspects of our game and list imho.

Caleb Windsor Could Miss the Rest of 2024
Demon Dynasty replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bowey has no aerial ability and he doesn't take the game on very often imo Dr. A winger needs to roll out and get on his bike pretty quickly without too much hesitation imv. Bowey tends to over think things a little and by the time he decides, the oppo's got most outlets covered. Bowey's pretty good when given the ball but also easily pushed off the ball in one v ones at ground level this season for mine. Not the same since his shoulder issue Look to reset over the summer break? -

Howes started off playing wing at Casey before getting pushed to a HB role with others like Woey getting more wing time ahead of him. Im not sure he has the wheels or the tank for AFL level here just yet though. Is Brown dog another option here at all? Has some zip and loves to tackle. -
I thought we slow played them a fair bit and with great effect in the first quarter and that kept the game on our terms DZ. It also meant less ball / possession for them which meant less use by hand then spread etc which they are well ahead of us at atm unfortunately. As the game progressed we moved away from the posession game a little more and started to attempt our own sling shotting. At stages i felt we over did this or went too quickly when the best option was probably to balance that out with more slow play at times after starting to hand the ball back a litttle to much. When we eventually ended up behind and needed to go fast, we started to do more slow play a few times too many. The slow play in red time was especially inexplicable given we needed to hit the scoreboard quickly. At this point i do not see a team that has a fairly straight forward plan that they're capable of executing for more than about 2 quarters or so DZ. And certainly not capable of sustaining under lengthy periods of pressure from a quality opponent which you are going to get in most games at this level. I suspect a combination of some missing pieces of the puzzle from a list management POV in recent times, potentially some mixed or poor messaging on the track, injuries catching up and also the ageing and maturing of some of our past greats. Add to that the loss of Guss and the issues with Clarry and it all adds up to a season to forget.
-
No idea DZ. The effort appeared to be there from some and we were also pretty efficient with ball in hand and inside 50 when we did get in in there? Do you have any theories? We were also well behind the Bombers in many team ratings but managed to put them away. Forgot to post the team metrics above which indicates we did ok in the efficiency stakes... You want to swap in an ageing British bulldog for a greyhound. Good luck with that. Haven't watched Casey vs Giants yet but prior to that i've seen nothing that would suggest Hunter's performing at a decent VFL level or higher that would warrant a call up. -
Round 20, 2024 MCG - Demons vs Giants It's been a long time since i can recall an MFC team taking the park where a player has not posted a rating above 4! Without scouring through the records my guess is possibly 2019. The entire team bar a few players (see below) has fallen right away from 2023 levels with no section (top 6, bottom 6 or the team as a whole) holding up. Across the board a massive 25% drop away from our average 2023 rating in this match. The bottom 6 player rating is a mega 54% away from 2023 levels. Six of the first top ten rated players are Giants with only two of our boys. Lever & McVee cracking the top ten. Laurie posting his highest rating (i think) in the red & blue was one positive outcome. Chandler also hitting a high we haven't seen for some time. At this rate i would hazard a guess that we'll be lucky to win any further games for the year, let alone make finals. We may have a slim chance vs the Suns, depending on their form and/or injuries, but that would be about it imho. Happy to stand by assessment earlier (above) that it is time to send any players who need it into surgery, play anyone who needs looking at from Casey like Jeffo and maybe Sestan to allow them to see what's required at the next level and also a chance for us to see where they're at. Nah .... better to reset and get some talent in to the list, some new coaching voices and potentially a replacement for Lamb. Too many NQR list cloggers at Casey. Our bottom six are a mile off this season vs last. That tells me we just haven't recruited enough of the right talent in the last few years to replace what's gone out the door.
-
Makes you wonder why he isn't sometimes whacking it slghtly forward towards Caleb's wing for a change up in these circumstances. There's almost always gonna be a defensive sweeper waiting for that when you're defending a lead with 5 or 10 minutes to go. Or defend the sweeper tight? Win it at the source, clear and shoot it forward, to advantage if poss, or just get it in quickly long and low.
-
Fitness isn't there this season. Can't run out a game unfortunately.
-
Yep that was a shocker. That and their mid field dominance at CBs early in the last Q probably cost us the match.
-
Too many NQRs, youngsters and we are at least two quality mids away from winning these. One of those is of course Tracc. Rivers might end up being another. Might need to find one more as well. JVR went missing for long periods tonight. A bit clumsy at ground level. Kozzy bah. He plays like a million $ one minute then a 10 game rookie the next. Petty's best game (in his forward role sense) for the year imho but still wasn't quite good enough. Needed to finish off his strong mark and put the goal away. It's not on Petty but he kicks that we probably win. Lever good in the first. Ok in the second but a fair way off his best in the second half. Knee an issue or still building? He just isn't damaging with ball in hand. Billings & Bowey had a few cameos but still a fair way off the level tonight. Unfortunately Woey was nowhere near it. Brown Dog would've been a better option and not in hindsight.

Great HB Vines... nice finish Chin
