  1. Iirc many of the successful coaches have said they generally adapt a game plan more to take advantage of some of the major strengths and general nature of the core/key players in the team and the general strengths of team as a whole, rather than the other way round LD.
  2. Correct....he was always going lower once we didn't bid. It was up to us to bid and force their hand with pick 4 LT taking that free hit out of the top 5 or 10. Once we didn't they used it as a bonus to nab Ash and the rest is history. Any bid once they used their pick 4 was pointless given their next picks started at 40.
  3. All good 58er. A pretty good off season but as you say alot is riding on players recovery, full pre-seasons and some youngens being trialled in their 2nd/3rd & 4th years, especially up forward. The recruits so far look exciting but like all young fellas they will need a few years to find their feet at this level....IF they do. The step up must be massive which is why a fair chunk don't make it. Fingers crossed we've brought in some significant talent that are able to transition. Will be interesting to see how chunk goes in his now / old HF role this year as well, especially with a full pre-season in. Having Fritta &'Melk back should also improve things up forward. Forward line, particularly the talls still a work in progress though at this stage it seems. Can't be worse than this season though surely and we should see significant improvement. Looking forward to seeing what Langdon brings and lets hope we get Harley up and running in the 2nd half to add a little pedigree / magic into the mix.
  4. Doerre's take.... ...."Can't help but think clubs are underrating Tom Green (GWS Academy). A clear cut top-3 quality prospect. Started the year #1 on my board just ahead of Anderson and Rowell and could still make that case. Best stoppage player I've seen in my 11 years watching the U18s. #AFLDraft".
  5. You must have some local intel PSD. A change of location might be just the tonic?
  6. Alot of time for this kid. The upside is huge. One of the best goal hauls in the Nats with 6 and doesn't think twice before nailing them on either side. Him and Henry teamed up for a few lovely goals. 185cm and probably still growing he could turn in to a lovely HF or wing. Some of the moves on this kid, albeit not as consistent as say Henry and Weightman, are something to behold when he turns it on. Would love to snag him.
  7. Another viable prospect with pick 30 IF he doesn't get snapped up prior. "We already have plenty of mids" will be the cry. But do we? Chunk now pretty much done as a full time mid and Goody marking him to play HF in more than likely his final year. Gus 'apparantly' suffering from a chronic back issue which held him back significantly this season. Tracc hoping to play more time through the mid might make up a little for the loss of chunk. But what if Gus has 'one of those years' with injury. That still leaves us at least one down on rotation from an 'inside or balanced' mid perspective. Schoenberg is more of a balanced mid, not dissimilar to the style of Gus imv but could offer handy cover/back up (or better) after a year or so in the system. The guy is all class in traffic, also has a dip and a lovely kick of the pill hitting up short targets on the run with wonderful vision & precision execution. Without getting too excited as there's still no doubt plenty of work ahead to make the grade he just might be one of the most under rated balanced mids in this year's draft in terms of potential upside. Deorre seems to agree going by his article and others must have seen similar with Schoenburg winning his state's MVP and All Australian u18 honours. (Extract from ESPN article)..."Schoenberg averaged 27 disposals, 12 contested possessions, five tackles and five marks during the Under-18 Championships". Not a bad haul. He might go before our 30 but anyway here's some info for those interested... https://m.afl.com.au/draft/prospects https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/28117106/afl-draft-10-most-underrated-prospects%3fplatform=amp https://afl.draftcentral.com.au/player/harry-schoenberg/
  8. They don't play their footy on draft night 58er. There was no point anyone else bidding on Green after we passed and apparently the Blues only did so (plus Henry straight after) to garner some time to organise their live swaps to trade down.
  9. Don't laugh he does some very solid work.... most of it at.ground level but i guess that's what many small forwards do. Forgot about the likes of Gould & Bianco also. Looks like a nice bonus ahead...fingers crossed.
  10. Well Kozzy is ours Rocky. We are still in the mix to land plenty of talent that will go in the 20s. Roberston, Schoenburg, Taylor, Williams etc
  11. Still a slim chance for Roberston or Taylor at 28 Colm!
  12. Star ruckman don't win premierships. Ours stared this season, won the best and fairest and we still finished second bottom. Square the ledger with ruck stocks....look to fill outside of that with the B+ types and your genuine guns that can turn and win the big matches.
  13. No they will use their fodder to counter Ron...we might but the horse bolted after pick 3 and we handed them Ash as well.
  14. Not really LT. Assuming we don't bid on him GWS then get to use their pick 4 on a top 10 prospect and any bid that comes after that will be matched by GWS with a bag of chaff. Why would anyone else bother after that.
  15. Regradless of how they dice it they will still be losing a super valuable pick 4 and don't get to take another shot at the top 10 with it LH. The ONLY difference!?? LH if we land Green or Jackson and then, by bidding on Green along the way, it assists us landing Ash/Weightman (or other preferred contender) from the first 10 or so (instead of them slipping to another club as a result of a GWS no.4 pick) i for one would consider that a very nice coup indeed.
  16. In many circles Green is the best available Bin but there's a few in the mix. We will beg to differ....again.
  17. Would need to know how many Cal considers is 'many'. Hope he isn't including Caruso's view in that straw poll.
  18. Not at all BB. I'm saying bid on Green not that the club will. As you say they know more and that will always be fall back position. From what i watched in the Nats Green is the No.3 in this draft. Bidding on him is a no brainer as we stand to win big time if we land him. If GWS step in and say "oh no you don't" and take him with No.4 pick they obviously rate him just as highly. Assuming GWS are forced to bid with 4 we win after anyway by taking Jackson with 3 (effectively at 4) but GWS don't get to snatch an extra top 10 pick in the draft, meaning that there's an extra player to be bid on by everyone. That makes our top 10 pick even more valuable on the night (which we could use in a last minute deal) vs if we don't bid. An extra bid up the order from a club using a bid on the extra player available also potentially might land us a more preferred player with our pick 28. I would recommend you watch Green in the nats if you haven't already BB. Very much a worthy pick at No.3 and will be a key in the GWS midfield for years to come after a few pre-seasons. Assuming he doesn't cop a major injury.
  19. Too costly rjay. Another year to run. Club's already taken a big hit. Looks like the club is starting to have a few concerns also. Earlier they said we are backing in T-Mac and Weid to go around again in 2020 as our two talls but are now chasing a ruckman who they believe can play as a tall forward in the draft.
