CASEY: Rd 03 vs North Melbourne
The stand out in terms of quality tonight (and last few weeks as well) was Foot. Looks to be an exciting prospect if we could land him albeit I'm still not 100% convinced and would like to see alot more. Weid was solid but no cigar tonight. Work rate great to get to plenty of drop spots/contests up field and up forward but when that ball hits the deck I'm sorry, there's just very little to see here defensively or offensively at ground level. And it's that last part. If he could bring a little of that on a regular basis he'd be hard to keep out of the ones. One could argue BB is no better here, possibly worse. But what BB does bring is proven accuracy at AFL level and a tad extra in terms of height & leap. Extra height that will worry the opp and makes him a very difficult match up. Extra leap that often sees him taking the ball at the highest point, pushing his opponent to try just that little bit harder to spoil and often drawing a few extra free kicks for the cheap goal or two. Which can sometimes be the difference in a tight match. Harmes very busy and lots of grunt but as others have said here there just isn't much thinking going on with his general play at the moment. He'll be better for the run though and not writing him off just yet provided he's played in this similar role from here. Looks like a fish out of water whenever he goes behind the ball. Rosman is the other stand out in terms of class and work rate. Very raw but shows glimpses of 'special' on occasions. Exciting prospect. Sparrow was quite good, got involved in plenty and did some lovely inside to outside work but again, not to a level that says (to me) he's busted the door down (again) and a sure fire replacement for someone at this stage. Bradtke...also has his moments but offsets them with far too many fumbles/blunders for mine and is still super raw. Chandler and Bedford are good, sometimes very good, at this level but I still don't see either as being up to holding their place at AFL level ATM. That's not to say either won't play the odd game upstairs either. I'm sure one or both will eventually get a look. Just not AS excited with these two YET that some others are on here. More time needed to develop. Another very good team effort though and if Maj had stayed on for most of that second half well, that final margin could have ended up blowing out by another 3 to 4 goals i reckon. Norf's list is a doozy at the moment. Not much of a tester for anyone today. Onwards to next week.

We are "Demons" ...DEMONS FCS! An insult to Checker that is What the hec is a Dee anyway Lucifer save me ?

Jonathan Brown to take Sam Weideman under his wing
He was far and above the better of the two in their first showing. BB took the chocolates in last game vs Box Hill though imv. Weid improved and certainly contributed in the second half but very quiet in the first from what i saw.

Top of the Ladder?
It does give us that luxury and ability to manage, trial and tinker a little CR but yes that's about where it starts and ends for mine. Don't get me wrong i love winning and what it brings each week but each week brings with it some new challenges where we need to put our best foot forward regardless of the opposition. Obviously the Roos are at a low ebb at the moment but nonetheless this is as important as any other week to ensure we hold our form and bring home the bacon. If we get to a position where the foot can be applied in the second half and some percentage added, fantastic, but let's take it one quarter at a time shall we.

Top of the Ladder?
Who cares. Make finals first aim. Go for top 4 after that. Top of the table means nothing imv and we have so far achieved diddly squat other than a very good start to a season.

Robbo
Had its moments pre-Hutchy. Taken a major dive post Hutchy. Unlikely it will ever improve while he owns/runs it.

CHANGES: Rd 07 vs North Melbourne
It's the ideal game to manage a few players. Giving a few at VFL level a look at senior footy is important for depth and cohesion if they are managed out again then called up once more if/when required later in the season. I'm sure Chunk is fully informed here and would be happy to fit in with the requirement and due for a week's rest/refresher or two. Although i don't quite get how he is resting if playing in the VFL. Unless his load is quite lighter on the day with minimal TOG. Melk out for BBB makes sense. BB needs to get some yards and touch behind him at the top level at some stage and he's too good to be played in the VFL for too long if ready to go. Likely to be taken out by some dingbat if he stayed down there. He's a difficult match up as well and means TMac & LJ will get the next rung defender. Both would appear to be astute moves on paper at least.

Highlights from the Richmond game
- Highlights from the Richmond game
All of the above. Plus the cheer that went up for Jones when he got the ball deep in defence in the last quarter (i think) and went back to kick. Then a chant went up in the Demon Army with others joining .."Jonesy, Jonesy, Jonesy". The other highlight was the Checker presentation where no one knew what the hec was going on, even the presenter and on top of that i couldn't hear what the hell she was even talking about in the lead up. As great as the game was this was a big amateur chuckle from where I was. Felt like a local / high school footy presentation moment.- Robbo
Still amazes me that him and Whately are on the same show. How Robbo even manages to continually get a gig, especially as a co-host, is one of football's great mysteries/anomalies.- The ANB Appreciation Thread
In the game against the Hawks the week before, early in the fourth, i seem to recall Nibbler gathering/marking just on or in front of the square forward of center at one stage and spotting a lovely kick to the open side as Mitch ran on to the pass for the easy mark and goal. His recent short snap torp goal from a lowish handball from Kozzie in congestion, which may have been in the same game, was a beauty also. I've noticed he has brought some nuance to his game this year as well with the under-ground handball when he can't get a standard one off. Doesn't always work but it's something the Doggies / Tiges and a few others have been doing for years. Great to see Nib (us) adding this to our arsenal. Statistically ANB has improved also. In the weighted averages scores i keep each year, his score has improved over 21% and ranking has improved two places from 21st overall in 2019 to 19th after 6 rounds this season. Admittedly 2019 was a fairly ordinary year but an improvement of 21%+ is pretty decent, beating the team's average improvement of 16% so far. Player 2021 Score 2021 Rank 2019 Score % Change vs 2019 2019 Rank Change in Rank vs 2019 Alex N-Bullen 2.413 19 1.984 21.62 21 2 I would be surprised if ANB is not loved by most/all of the coaches. My guess is he's a soft tag run with / counter attack role player (at least that's how i see him....probably not the most accurate assessment from an amateur keyboard warrior) and i reckon he probably gets a job on someone most weeks, while also being asked to get involved in chains throughout the ground once we get the ball and assist where possible with pressuring / tackling (in the forward half especially). Chipping in with the opportune goal also when the window opens. His tackling a particular high point of his game, presently ranked third for tackle averages inside fifty. *Although Mitch is leading here, his number is not an average, having of course only played one match so far... One of the greatest gut runners and scrappers in the game. Must be a nightmare to play on. He got a tip on that shot from the boundary from Melk to aim for the top left goal post i reckon. And that's exactly what he did. What a goal. Was it on goal of the week? Not even a mention probably but should've been given the conditions and circumstances. Haven't seen too many better in the belting rain. Cracker mentioned Jacko running around Langdon which i don't recall. The one i do recall is Gazza from just on or outside 50 meters at Princes Park against the Hawks on about a 45 degree angle. Not quite as far out as Duncan's on the weekend but close. Pii$$ing down rain the whole quarter. Gazza booted that heavy parched leather through for six, half post height, splitting the middle with a beautiful spiral. But the bladder...the bladder....- Stats Files - 2021

Yes that was my worry when we were going after him vs a genuine mid or say Young but he is proving to be that old style "flip him around anywhere utility" as you say WSW. Albeit with about 5 inches on any of the old school traditional ones. The key with a tall like this is what he does after the ball hits the deck in marking contests and/or ball ups/ins and he's proving to be very adept at this side. Not sure he has the kicking boots to hold down a traditional key forward role but he's certainly a big asset to have when played like this. My initial worries have proved to be completely unfounded and mis-guided. A great pick up. His best game last night and a very mature game also in such a block buster. Impressive in many aspects. The tank to seemingly be able to go for four quarters at this early stage....makes a huge difference and very hard to match up on.- Stats Files - 2021
Rnd 6, 2021 MCG - Demons vs Tigers Too many great contributions to mention today. Let's just take a look at the top 3 who are all off the charts. Salem: His highest weighted score since keeping these stats, beating his previous best against the Suns in Rnd 20, 2018 where he topped that round with a massive 6.325. 31 Effective disposals @ 79.5% efficiency! 2 one percenters, 2 clearances, 8 rebounds, 6 inside 50s, 3 tackles, 4 score involvements, 9 intercepts and a goal. 5 turnovers. Clarry: 24 effectives @ 66.70%, 2 one percenters, 4 clearances, 4 rebound 50s, 4 inside 50s, 6 tackles, 10 score involvements, 7 intercepts and only 3 turnovers. Tracc: 20 effectives @ 52.5%, 10 clearances, 3 rebounds, 7 inside 50s, 7 tackles, 11 score involvements and a goal. Turnovers a tad high at 7. Taking no notice of Hibb in 22nd place here. Did the job asked on Dusty and would have no doubt sacrificed much of his usual role to achieve this which has obviously impacted his usual output. Our highest team score so far this season, outstripping 2018's season average and smashing 2019's. Also our highest score from the top 6 ranked players this season. Oh forgot to mention the Hibb. Superb job on Dusty forward (again) and JJ very good as well when he was on him early at centre bounces. Dusty never really got off the leash and going. EDIT: In all the excitement i forgot the big fella. What a game big boy! - Highlights from the Richmond game
