COVID & AFL 2021
I suspect that it's all about Sydney (the city) viewership. Channel 7 knows that Sydney people will watch a game involving Sydney (the team) but not much else. Furthermore, people from Adelaide will still watch games even if neither of their local teams are involved. So, of these two options, Channel 7's biggest audience will be Dogs v Sydney, not PA v Melbourne.

Luke ‘dogga’ Jackson rising star favourite
Amusing, but that's not how sports betting works. The odds don't change for the person who makes the wager once that wager is placed. Those odds remain fixed for that bet. Certainly, odds can lengthen and shorten over time but only for future bets. Note: If you're under 18 and reading this, stop doing so and return to this post after your 18th birthday.

CHANGES: Rd 16 vs GWS
We generally play 7 forwards to allow for rotations, so there's still room for ANB. However, under this model, Pickett and possibly ANB might have to chip in to assist with on ball rotations.

And if we were struggling, I suspect you would you say it was Goodwin's fault.

WCE analysis and interesting data for all clubs
But it's an ABC story, so clearly unbalanced. I need to see how the Murdoch press cover the issue. Oh. Sorry, wrong thread.

COVID & AFL 2021
This is an interesting albeit long analysis of the current Covid vaccination situation. (And it's produced by neither the ABC or Murdoch media). As with all media analysis, though, treat it with care.

CHANGES: Rd 16 vs GWS
Has the club confirmed Jackson is OK? He went off the ground before 3/4 time and was in the rooms for the whole 3/4 time break. He did return to play in the last quarter. He seemed to be limping slightly when he went off but also looked OK when he returned. Mind you, if Jackson doesn't play (and let me stress, I assume he will play until we hear otherwise), I suspect Weideman might be a better chance to come in than B Brown because he can be used as the second ruckman.

It’s coming home ...
And then there's the sock analogy. The Boston Red Sox and the MFC obviously wear the same colour sox/socks. They had the Curse of the Bambino while we have the Norm Smith curse (note the rhyme between Red Fox and Red Sox). So, we should anticipate that our drought is due to end because the Curse of the Bambino only went, oh, wait....86 years. Bugger.

COVID & AFL 2021
I think you'll find most of the people in the media from the left think they're sensible centre types. As do most of the people on the right. That's why they all claim they speak for the so-called "silent majority".

You are quite right. Much better than my suggestion.

CHANGES: Rd 16 vs GWS
I have no idea what we should do, but I would have thought replacing Fritsch with B Brown doesn't solve the problem of needing more marking targets in the forward line. If Brown comes in, I think it needs to be for a smaller player than Fritsch.

CASEY DEMONS: Rd 12 vs UWS Giants
Who or what are the UWS Giants? More specifically, does the name mean it's a merger between the University of Western Sydney and the GWS Giants? Or is UWS a sponsor of the Giants' seconds team? If the latter, have we ever had a name like that before (ie, a "insert sponsor's name" Magpies, or equivalent)?

Local media pundits not taking MFC as a serious threat.
I'm not convinced that posters on anonymous forums have any balls. (And, yes, I know I'm one of those posters.)

Surely if the MFC is going to be compared with a fictional TV character we can come up with someone more substantial than a member of the Brady Bunch. What about Tony Soprano, Jed Bartlet or even Superman?

Thanks for the reminder. To me, though, it feels more like 15-20 years since he passed on. If asked to provide one word to describe his playing style, I would say he was exuberant.

My 3 word player analysis V Essendon
Hope you're donating the proceeds of your swear jar to the club. But don't tell ANB - it would put him in an invidious position. The more he stuffs up (in your eyes) the better for the club!

VOTES: Rd 15 vs Essendon
You're making me feel guilty for not giving him votes this week. He was close, but I just couldn't overlook six others.

Local media pundits not taking MFC as a serious threat.
I think the media would argue that it's the audience (viewers, listeners and readers) who aren't deep thinkers and without long attention spans. The media then plays to the limitations of its audience by discussing something as fresh as possible. And I suspect that view is probably correct.

Think of it this way. Kim Jong-un is also part of a dynasty.

I'm just grateful the Bulldogs won the Premiership in 2016. That should mean that come September we'll be everybody's sentimental favourite.

Melbourne to sell the Bentleigh Club
Actually, I was only curious, not sceptical. Until I read your post and now I'm sceptical as well as curious!

Melbourne to sell the Bentleigh Club
Bit of subtle but nevertheless mixed messaging in Pert's note. He says (paraphrasing) that it's both good that we're getting out of gaming and good when Jim Stynes and Don McLardy got us into gaming. While a "Future Fund" sounds good, I'm interested in knowing what this actually means given interest rates are essentially zero. Investing in equities? Other real estate? (I'm not being critical, by the way. Just curious.)

COVID & AFL 2021
I really think people do not understand that the issues with AZ (and any other drug) are all about risk management. When Covid numbers are low (or non-existent), the risks associated with having the AZ vaccination are considered to be higher than catching Covid. Hence, the recommendation not to use it. When the numbers of Covid increase and ergo the chances of catching it increase, the risks associated with AZ are no longer as problematic as the risk of catching and being affected by Covid. That's when the health advice changes to recommending people have an AZ shot. That leads to two conclusions. Firstly, the AZ vaccine is still a fine product which will provide protection, albeit with a very small risk of ill effects for some people. Secondly, when you chop and change the advice - based on sound risk-based probability analysis - it can be too late, because in doing so, you've unfairly and unnecessarily trashed the brand.

My 3 word player analysis V Essendon
I was at the ground on Saturday and thought ANB was pretty good. What I saw wasn't based on his disposal numbers (13 disposals including 10 kicks) but rather, his relentless chasing which kept putting Essendon players under pressure. I think his position is safe. I suspect if I were watching on TV I might come to a different view, but at the ground, I always see so much more of what is going on.

Best highlight of last night's game!
If we'd lost, we'd be complaining about the umpiring. It was poor on Saturday night with inconsistency heaped on inconsistency. Pushes in the back paid and then not paid; similarly with incorrect disposal. But I reiterate what I've said before, the AFL heirarchy is to blame by having so many rules that are open to an individual's interpretation. And before we get too critical, how dumb is it to give away a free kick for not having the 6-6-6 in place after a goal twice!
