We can opine to our biased heart's content and beat our chests as much as we want, but at the end of the day (or season, as the case may be), any player of substance just wants to see success and play with their mates. As PJ said, culture and list management wins premierships. Throw heaps of cash around and you may not necessarily get success. Get wins, develop culture and you have a better chance at a flag. You can't expect talented players to blindly commit without the club having some runs on the board in terms of wins and management.

With all due respect Stuie, and not that you care, but I think you'll find this is what nearly everyone else on here thinks of your posting. I get your point, however, I think you are reading way too much into it.

Why is it that when someone points out that your post is OTT and not based on what the player actually said you go for the "your missing my point" line? Chip is a leader of the team without question. He gives 110% each week. He's had a gazillion coaches in his time, seen the team win few games over the years and is coming off a contract which perhaps hasn't reflected his true worth as a player. Why the fk wouldn't he wait and see if the club was on the up and increase his value in the meantime? If Roos thought he Chip was conflicted surely he would ask him to be removed from the leadership group. Your example of Boak is flawed because he waited until the season was over before re-signing with Port. The least we can do is give Chip the same opportunity. Oh, and just for you..... nowhere in your quote does it say that Chip doesn't believe in the club, as you claimed. That's not the same as waiting to see direction.

Have you got a quote Stuie where Chip clearly says he was not sure he believed in the club? Don't get me wrong, I too would like to see him re- sign, but I don't get your premise that he's not a leader of the club if he doesn't sign now, that he's just another player if he waits until his contract is closer to completion. Sounds like hyperbole to me. If I recall correctly, Boak waited until the end of the season before putting pen to paper. Why can't Chip be given the same opportunity? His manager might be just trying to drive his price up, or he might actually leave. It's all speculation now. I do not know of the case you refer to, but how is it fair and reasonable to let a player off on a positive test for a making agent? Who is this player? AFL or state league?
