  1. You cannot play quick ball movement all day with a one-paced midfield; full stop. They are good against a team that plays similarly, but the game started to change from the 2022, and we kept playing the same way. Now our lack of run, skills, and decision-making has come back to bite us badly. Yes, we will improve, but not to the extent needed to match the top teams. Viney is too slow and, like Oliver, was shown up when there is no congestion in packs. Once the ball is moved quickly, he is out of the contest with ease. Max, unfortunately, cannot jump at center bounces, and opposing teams will now just jump into him, making it harder for him to provide the first opportunity to give it off to someone. The game plan is something else; because of the lack of quick movement and skills, everyone is around the ball creating packs and contests. However, when the ball is moved to the outside by the opposition and transferred, it opens us up and allows them scoring opportunities much easier than we can. All our forwards are that far up the ground when we do get it, so all you see are 2-3 backmen alone forming a wall across the half-back line and picking us off. You cannot delist everyone, but Trac and Kossie should be kept. Oliver should either be traded or have his role recreated. Viney, who has been a loyal soldier, cannot keep playing in the midfield if he struggles to contribute against runing sides, Sparrow is in no man's land, but the worse thing is the inability to hit targets by hand or foot is staggering and does not help the cause at all. It's going to be an interesting year.
  2. Maybe a little harsh but true with me..
  3. But the sycophants on here will tell you the problem is loading, injuries, umpires and any other excuse but we will make the finals so keep quite.
  4. He gave up at times, but I have said this for a long now. Oliver has the best below-the-need ball control since Williams, but he is a shocking kick, lacks football decision-making abilities and as the game gets quicker, like Viney, are liabilities to a team.
  5. Out Viney, Oliver and Salem for a start.
  6. Oliver were you watching the 21 grand final..
  7. I have to apologise to all the people who play netball in my post, we clearly could not practice that as you have to have skill, coordination and an ability to hit targets quickly maybe we could practice ring a ring a roses.....
  8. More soccer practice is needed on Monday. Maybe they could change it up and include netball...
  9. Well I have said it since 2022 our midfield is one paced lack of skills and people on here said I was wrong well it's only going to get worse from now on welcome to the show.
  10. I see the soccer practice fixed our ball skills.
  11. Then Viney and Salem wouldn't get a game then.
  12. The game against the Roos should largely fall on the midfield. However, we have players who cannot move the ball quickly: May, Lever, Petty, Viney, Sparrow, McDonald, and to a degree, Rivers. They stop and look down the line first, and are too slow to react. Even when the ball is switched, it is still mark and prop, as the midfield does not move quick enough. Case in point: the Hawks. Once it's switched, it's all go. Gold Coast will try to play on and run at all times. Hopefully, not playing at the G much might be a little more difficult.
  13. I didn't realise the club is not operating without a CEO; shut the doors; what a load of [censored] and non-story by opinion writers who rush these days for a story I prefer the club takes its time to get who they want for the long run.
  14. Reid for Oliver
  15. lmfao gold.
  16. Especially when it's wet..
  17. Well he was employed as a .... https://www.melbournefc.com.au/teams/afl/coaches/troy-chaplin
  18. Nothing better than someone trying Gotcha, so with that when did McQualter start coaching at Melbourne oh that's right 2024 what year is it now so one year and how long has Chapin been at Melbourne 2016 and stated out as a what https://www.melbournefc.com.au/teams/afl/coaches/troy-chaplin How about you compare apples with apples not pears.
  19. So he's been there for how long I think he's seen the problems first hand for several years.
  20. And yet he's the forward coach the buck stops there full stop.
  21. Big difference one is the gameplan, two the players they had to work with we have had this problem for 3 years it's not like it just started this year, and what doesn't help is a one paced midfield with poor football decision making and poor football skills by hand and foot, if and I mean if this season becomes a complete mess I would be looking to trade some bigger names out to get what we need, before tasmania come in.
  22. 8 hours ago, Macca said: We need better key forwards I'm not enamoured with Turner, Johnson, Jefferson or JVR. Maybe we could try Kentfield? Kentfield, I have a rap on. He just needs good coaching, loves a contest, has a good football instinct, but needs time; get Hawkins or someone like him down there to mentor these young players, same for JVR, Turner regarding Jefferson, I'm not sure if he will make it.
  23. Use Turner as a lead up player but no use leading when the midfield can't kick to you.
  24. Yes the backline was under the pump but a big part of it was the midfield, lack of run turning it over so often the ball keeps getting pumped in we have a one paced midfield, a forward line that's stagnant but let's see what happens next week.
