  1. I'm a big fan of self-flagellation
  2. Still quite raw - but he has three really good attributes - goes hard at the ball, runs hard and has neat skills ( and yet he plays for us - go figure !). The neat skills being the most important - as we have shown continually - turn the ball over and you are shot to pieces. I didn't think that the Pies were that bad on Saturday - they just butchered the ball. And the incessant pressure from the Tigers made the Hawks turn the ball over which is a rarity - and hence they lost. This is the beauty of getting more "Brayshaws" - rarely makes a bad decision and just executes his skills well.
  3. His tackling on Saturday was brutal.
  4. Can get exposed by lack of foot speed and the odd fluffed disposal - these flaws are so thoroughly outweighed by what he brings to the team. He knows when to sit on his man, he knows when to peel off or ran up to another contest. He is hard as nails and as said , his disposal sometime is iffy , his decision making is really good. I love what he brings the team.
  5. To me education ( and in particular generational education) is the key. 1950/60's - watch out ! we are being invaded by Greeks and Italians - the problem today ? meh - non existent 1970's - watch out ! we are being invaded by Vietnamese - the problem today ? meh - non existent Whilst the integration of first wave immigrants can be "rocky" - through education, the children tend to embrace all that is good with country ( without necessarily abandoning their cultural roots). Come to the nutbean household - A good Jewish boy from New Zealand with his first generation Australia girlfriend ( whose parents are Egyptian) and the girlfriends daughters boyfriend - 1st generation Australian from Vietnamese refugee parents. We got it all going on !
  6. He is appearing at the Caravan Club - i have tickets and i have no idea who he is ! I have seen a few youtubes of his stuff and i like what i see - just wondering if you had seen or heard of him.
  7. agreed - but I still am not confident in an alternative solution ( ie regional co-operation) happening. It still doesn't mean that I like the turn back policy in way shape or form.
  8. We need a complete and unadulterated review of the gig !
  9. He was resplendent in orange - and many of us in the audience also wore orange in support. On another note - Do you know of Steven Poltz ?
  10. Another issue I am conflicted over. - To me turning back the boats only pushes problems back out of our waters - I am not a supporter. - The simple answer is a regional solution to the issue - all countries co-operating to ensure equality in distribution - and safe resettlement - now, do I believe that the countries in the region have the political will or Australia has the political capital to make this happen ? Not likely. Hence my conflict.

I also sat both my daughters down and told them it was very important that when they decided on their life partners they had to be "of the faith". When they asked me if them having Jewish partners was really that important to me I told them I couldn't care less about that - When I said "of the faith" I meant Melbourne supporters. Happily the oldest is firmly entrenched with a mad Demons fan and we all go to the footy together.

I think I have posted this before. My daughter at 14 suggested that she couldn't take watching us anymore and wanted to shift teams. I told her I had no problem with that at all but if she did there would be no more MCC membership and we would only go to the footy once a year when her new team played the Dees as I had zero interest in watching another team play. Tough love - but it was called for. I am happy to announce that she is still a proud dees fan and her full MCC membership came through this year.
  14. Ross Hannaford is quite ill and there were two benefit concerts last weekend at the Memo music hall in Melbourne - the who's who came out to play to help defray his medical bills. Hosted by Brian Nankervis - Paul Kelly, Black Sorrows, Linda Bull, Wilbur Wilde, Phil Rudd, the rest of the Daddy Cool but to name a few. Ross Hannaford opened the show and looked very frail but there was a wonderful outpouring of emotion for him. The highlight was probably Joe Camilleri - gee he gives when he performs. Disappointment - Ross Wilson - really acted like he didnt want to be there. ( at the table next to me were half of Sherbert - I managed to keep myself from throwing my panties at them)
  15. couldn't agree more. I did hate the response " it's in the rules". Responses of that kind irk me.
  16. I think we nailed our differences - The data is ever evolving but I won't sit in the skeptics camp until the "dangers of climate change" are well and truly debunked - I don't think we can afford to be wrong on the debate. On NOAA NOAA's roots date back to 1807, when the Nation’s first scientific agency, the Survey of the Coast, was established. Since then, NOAA has evolved to meet the needs of a changing country. NOAA maintains a presence in every state and has emerged as an international leader on scientific and environmental matters.
  17. This to me is the crux of the argument. I agree that there is continual refining and evolution of models. To me it comes down to whether we believe that climate scientists continually make changes to flawed models to support their assertions or the models have validity but continue to be refined as more is learned and more ( and different) data comes to hand. I keep pressing the same point. I have found the majority of reading I have done worrying. The consequences of inaction to me dictate that I don't think we can afford to be on the wrong side of the debate on this. What the correct action is and levels of action required is entirely different debate which to me is even more troubling.
  18. Good politicians rarely miss an opportunity to say "see..i told you so" and wave the flag on their triumphs. This was just opportunity that went begging. I am not sure but I hope most punters can see the difference between Australian/Dual citizens being stripped of their status by the courts as opposed to ministers. ( that was Zaky's point before he went off the rails)
  19. alas, not all of us.....
  20. And here in lies why we will never see eye to eye. You see this problem only in absolutes. If there are corrections to models or adjustments that need to be made because new data comes to hand or a new way of looking at something as the Science is ever evolving then that makes all previous arguments on climate change moot. NOAA has now come out and suggested their research show that there was no Hiatus. So you will come back and ask who is wrong and who is right NOAA or the IPCC report ? I guess I believe that just because adjustments continue to be made and new learnings alter our understanding this has not altered the general concensus on where we are heading with this. The thing I suppose I find the most frustrating is the IPCC fifth assessment makes pretty scary reading yet all that some have managed to take out of it is the "hiatus".
  21. Sorry - that is the point - you have rightly pointed out that Zaky played into the hands of the Abbott Government - but hardly a word on that. Absolutely missed the chance to hold Zaky up as the poster boy for his legislation. You must concede that one of the biggest talking points of Governments worldwide is terrorism and how to deal with it ( weave into the debate fundamentalism/Radicalism and any other ism you care to mention as well as the treatment of nationals fighting for these wars). Whether one agrees with Abbotts approach or not here was a prime example of someone who could have been a powerful tool for publicizing Abbotts legislation.
  22. I warned you before - lay off Jacqui - I got this whole Jacqui/Pauline/nutbean menage fantasy going on,, Wait...how do i delete this post.
  23. I think you have hit the nail on the head with 5 words - "not in any way conclusive". Sometimes under Roos we have been very good. Many times we have been competitive. Many times we have been just plain putrid. If you asked me to describe our team - I will borrow from you - we are inconclusive
  24. If we don't beat Essendon then we will lose to Essendon ( or a remote possibility we will draw with them) - but that's just one man's opinion.
  25. Disagree with this one. Even mentioning his 196cm height is flawed as marking is his not his sweet spot. He plays like medium sized player with good ground skills, good toe and the ability to spread. I don't have a problem with him in the wet - as opposed to say a Spencer
