It not his lack of sense of rhythm that is Lars problem - it his lack of a sense of humour. The man is a [censored] jockey. -
Quirky question about Queens Bday/Music
nutbean replied to demon_fanatic's topic in Melbourne Demons
I did point out that I don't usually correct spelling of others on here as mine can lean to the atrocious. But Mettalica ? Im also a bit sensitive as I work for a group that owns 5 fashion companies - one of them being Metalicus. And they get called Metallica and yesterday someone asked me about Meticulous. And the second time I would pick someone up on spelling would be if the spelling the defining and music altering band Beatles as Beetles. Beetles ? Really ? Just for the record - the correcting of Metallica is more about the importance of the band in the annals of music history rather than about your spelling. -
Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 12

You have no idea how they will react. We hope for them to be thoroughly distracted but it could have the exact opposite effect of bringing them together - the "world against us" mindset. -
Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 12

I hope McKenzie has learned from Cross - Cross has been nicely shutting down his opponents and whilst doing that has averaged 22 disposals and 6 tackles and 95 points on supercoach. As said previously, the problem with McKenzie has been that he is so intent on defense without any offense that his opponent has never had to worry about him. Cross's opponents have to try and break his tag but also worry that he doesn't get too much of the ball himself. -

shame on you ! Metallica. ( don't normally correct peoples spelling but couldn't let this one go). Yes - pumping out Enter Sandman and they are also keen on Muse. -
I don't know what you are seeing that I'm not. He may not be a leader of the club but poor body language ? He doesn't drop his head - he doesn't slag off his team-mates. does he make mistakes - sure - but so do all our players. He took 11 marks on Monday and I counted on three occasions where he should have put his arms out on the lead and taken it in front of the body - instead he got it punched away by opting to chest mark. He is working hard on repeat leading and constantly presenting. He is not our best this season but far from our worst and is playing in a new position - alternating CHF with Dawes which is the hardest position on the ground to play. I feel people are willing to mark him way down because of his contractual situation.
-
I wouldn't have thought that this is so hard to understand. We can praise the improvement in our midfield and how miserly our defense has been but our entries into the forward 50 are definitely are a very big work in progress.
-
Gawn is 17 feet tall and didn't have 2 players hanging off him the whole day with poor entries into the forward half like Dawes did . Having said that - it wasn't Dawes best game and I thought Gawn was serviceable. He looked slow because mids were running away from him - I ask the question - why was he chasing mids ? where was the mid opponents who should have been chasing?
-
Seen enough of Hawthorn to suggest your mate didnt watch Guerra much - there is a reason they constantly used him as their "quarterback" out of defense. I think Shoenamakers kicking is ok - I think he is prone to brainfades.
-
Spot on about Hawthorn. Rule number one in their recruiting - you gotta be able to kick. There is not a bad kick in their lineup - back forward or mid.

This was my problem with Scully and now Frawley. I respect ( but dislike ) that contract talks will be put on hold until the end of the contract. It is the players prerogative - it is their livelihood and the player and his manager need to do what is best for them. But why do our boys find the necessity to talk about the situation. Compare to this Gazza Jnr - it drove the supporters and his coach balmy but he said nothing except - "I will make decision at seasons end". I understand this new world of free agency and we will see more and more players leave their final decisions until seasons end. Just shut up about it and say nothing rather than do a Scully and lie through your teeth. I am so dirtied by the Scully situation that I take the stance that any player that hasn't signed by mid-season is gone - if they stay it is a bonus. I emotionally detach myself from that player.

I consider that I am balanced in my views and can see both sides of the equation. I don't go in for player bashing but can understand the critics and defenders of players past and present such as Watts, Dunn and Terlich to name but three who polarise supporters. I scratch my head at criticism of Matt Jones who in my opinion works ultra hard, presents, chases, leads, has pace and decent enough disposal. He has played 33 games and averages 20 disposals per game. Not much not to like IMO.

Even further to this point - I don't think we took a step backwards on Monday - we definitely didn't kick enough goals and butchered the ball but our defensive structures held up well. A performance like we served up against the Eagles would have been a step backwards. I am pleasantly surprised because I expected more "frailty" from our players and expected some progress interlaced with some hammerings. Besides the Eagles the hammerings haven't materialised.
-
They had to spruik - we need 70,000 plus crowds. It would have done more for our cause if we had played like we did against Adelaide but it wasn't to be. Where i disagree with you is that "you want to see consistent results from them, then they'll see me at the ground ever week". I have seen one and a half games where we have not been consistent in what Roos is teaching or not improved ( Eagles and GWS). So I don't think we have got ahead ourselves and even though it wasn't a great performance Monday, I reflect on the amount of posters who last year openly admitted on here that they had better things to do with their weekends than watch the trainwreck which was the MFC. I haven't seen any of that commentary this year at all and I am expecting a better crowd at the G this week than we got last year. I can't speak for the majority but IMO you may be in the minority of those who were "[censored] they tell me to turn up and serve that up on Monday (The anger is justified)"

Slamming Sam says take QB Monday game off Melbourne
nutbean replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
He is right to the extent that everyone ( including us ) would not like if we played that way and scored 3 goals every week, What that dingbat doesn't understand ( and Bomber Thompson does) is that we are like a baby just learning how to walk. We are 9 games into a new era of coaching for these players. Of course 3 goals is unacceptable but get a grip - these players are just learning what is required of them and I think the progress made has been quite outstanding. -
So deep in the third quarter had the umpire made the correct call on the Jetta handball to Vince for a goal - we would have been within 4 points - not a contest ?

Stating the obvious ?

He earns the right not to be called a spud for the next 2 seasons by Demonland posters.

WELCOME BACK TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - NEVILLE JETTA

good get ! -
I'm only half smug - I didn't have a bad word for them but wasn't confident enough to say that they would improve. The only player I have ever suggested wont make it and purely based on his poor disposal is Nicco. Love his run - hate his butchering.
-
Correct - Thats the whole point of playing the "strangle". If we play as we are being schooled we won't get thumped. Our problem was not that our defense was poor - it was our disposal into the 50 and also we didnt put enough offensive pressure on. Thats not to say that our young and inexperienced group wont at some stage lose structure and discipline like we did against the eagles.
-
Exactly - Where you either work hard both ways or you don't get a gig. We are not particularly good at it yet but we have made a decent start. Build the defensive base and when we have that at a good level you can add flair. We have had coaches that started with flair and when the acid was put on we crumbled. ( lets not even talk about Neeld). Happy with what Roos is trying to build. It ain't pretty but it will get results.
-
Nope - develop year one or he is a spud.....
