Terry Wallace's list analysis - 2014 edition
nutbean replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
Happy to say that it was an mistake to take Toumpas over Wines but please don't rewrite history. Drafting needs over best available ??? Do the research and every publication had Toumpas going in the draft BEFORE Wines. Pre kicking a ball in anger Toumpas was considered a better prospect than Wines. Just hasn't turned out that way. This constant moaning on Wines vs Toumpas is wearying. I am so glad we traded out pick 2 last year or we would have a host of posters bemoaning taking Kelly over Bontempelli. Go back over every draft and you will notice that draft order has never ever been correct. If you were looking at past drafts number one picks would be ( IMO and obviously subjective) 2013 - Bontempelli 2012 - Wines 2011 - pretty close between Coniglio, Dom Tyson (yay), Greene, wingard 2010 - probably Heppell 2009 - We talk about Scully and Trengove but look how everyone missed out on Fyfe at 20. Gunston at 29 !! It doesn't matter if you agree with who I have suggested as pick one or not - the evidence is that if you do retrospective draft analysis and you will see that EVERYONE has pretty much got the draft order wrong.- 38 replies

You have hit the nail on the head - "sell the club effectively". Pretend I am buyer - sell the club to me ! Interested to see how you can spin a tale that doesn't make us look like one of the worst clubs in the league . We are a particularly unattractive proposition. We are marginally better than Essendon which is in meltdown yet made the finals. We have Roos and apparent stability and money to offer. Some supporters ( me included) saw an improvement last year and believe we are heading in the right direction. Outsiders see us as a club that finished second bottom, loses players to free agency and are still a fair way off playing finals. Yeah, I really can't understand why players from other clubs aren't just falling over themselves to get to the MFC.

Nasher.. If this trade is indeed for pick 2 and 3 and goes ahead can you please set up a permanent thread entitled "my god we could have had.... (then list the next 10 players taken after pick 1). The moaning and "what could have been" will keep that thread going years after OD and I are well and truly dead and buried.

Exactly what contingencies would you like. Players have to actually WANT to come to our club. You make it sound like that club should have all these players who simply want out of their club to come to us. Besides Essendon, we would rank with Stkilda and now maybe the dogs as least popular destination. Trading is a three way proposition - we have to want a player, the player has to want to come to us and we have to be able to satisfy the other club ( its just that easy) -

I do get slightly irritated at those who just think that players are queuing up to come to our club and the opposition clubs are just going to let them walk. We are slightly more attractive now we have Roos but many keep forgetting that we finished 2nd bottom and are not looking at finals contention in the short term. Trading is very complicated unless we are talking about NQR's, other clubs refuse, pre-retiree's and last chance footballers. The big ticket items are difficult to dislodge and usually have a preference for a better club. I am sure we have thrown a net over lots of potentials with lots of knock backs and lots of not being able to dislodge them from their clubs. We have one and half days and i am philosophical about what will happen. We will either get a ready made footballer or go to the draft with pick and 2 and 3 -
we could be getting his brother John F Kennedy

I thought I had this worked out Former man - means he is now a woman Street of knox - again - a little obvious - knox - being short for knockers - having a nice set of knockers tired of being a bird - over the whole woman thing and wants to comes back to being a man again and join the red and blue....... Up until the last clue you were describing Jack Watts but he is already with the red and blue...

I hope we listen to the surgeons on the likelihood of him returning to the field before we do anything.

Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off
nutbean replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think you are too soft - at the time we should done the "navicular scan" on Trengove and the " Am I going to give the club nothing for two years and then nick off to the GWS for a gazillion dollars" scan to Scully. It would have averted this disaster -

you're a happy little poster, aren't you. -
I can't remember if it was the first goal but I vividly remember Todd kicking his goal that day and it was "Dane Swaneque" - a mongrel, floater that looked hideous off the boot.

You were still horribly wrong about Roos coming so you are still in the red. -

Tell me why it is safe to assume that ? -
yeah.. I just hate pipe dreams and once anyone in AFL states it aint gonna happen well then that is it ... "I don't want to coach ever again. I can't see myself doing it," Roos said. "My view has changed a little bit from the time I left the Swans. "Then I thought, I might go back one day, but I'm enjoying what I'm doing so much these days that coaching isn't something I'm thinking about doing ever again. "I'm not interested in coaching"

He who rides a tiger is afraid to dismount. -
Like you, I have no idea if this is a realistic chance or not but the one thing the whole Roos and " I'm not interested in coaching again" drama taught me is, as you rightly put it. I will declare that Danger is not coming to the MFC 2:01 pm Thursday. It appears the PJ and his crew do not accept the answer no until time has run out completely and the answer has continued to be no. Until that time no only means we keep asking the same question.

Disagree they are sweeteners - you know how you put sweetener instead of sugar in your coffee and you get that really crappy after-taste in your mouth ? Thats the same crappy taste I get in my mouth after watching those boys play footy for us.

not sure I would be paying pick 4 for a player 29 years old next season.

The only speeches I did like listening to was Keating - not necessarily for policy detail but I loved the venom.
