I think we need Rangey to set up a poll of the expressions that need to be banned - the top three making the ban list and earning any poster who uses them an "elite" holiday from DL.

I " like" this - unless of course you mean me then I actually dislike this.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ANGUS BRAYSHAW
nutbean replied to ashdemons22's topic in Melbourne Demons
Lets leave off with Angus and the (sesame seed) puns -
just going to the footy to watch two good teams play (naturally not our mob) - we cease to exist.
-
please add "bleeds red and blue" to that list (ughhh)
-
Glad he had a crack at it but I always thought that we can do better. Saw a bit of Harmes at Casey and understand what the coaching staff see in him - never really understood what they saw in Georgiou

Cannot downplay this point - When Junior was "retired" I was in agreement - IMO body was shot. Now I know that 32 year old plus players always think they can go longer than the club does but on reflection it was either a bad decision by the club or a good decision poorly handled. Either way it was a very bad moment for our club and had an impact on the club going forward. You just don't treat champions of the club ( not a champion footballer) the way we did. We talk about culture and this one was a culture killer.

There is a slight difference between a player wanting out of club and then staying as opposed to a club wanting a player out but couldn't get the deal done.

But not safe to say StKilda wouldn't

I looked up David Williams who played with us in the late 80's. Wikipedia said we traded him to the Tigers and then he did his knee - but my memory is otherwise. He did his knee - we delisted him with a promise that we would pick him in the PSD if he got through preseason. But Richmond used an early pick to nab him. edit - on researching I looked at the 1989 draft - we were horrible at drafting even then ( our biggest haul was predraft of Stephen Clark from Essendon who played 21 games for us - the balance 4 players played a total of 3 games for us !!) but the Eagles in that draft took predraft - Ryan turnbull 129 games, traded in Wilson 117 games, pick 4 matera 253 games, pick 40 Dean Irving 43 games, pick 64 Evans 108 games, pick 92 Heady - 156 games, pick 112 McIntosh - 256 games !!!!! get me this recruiting team !!!!

You get to see these boys playing a couple of years at TAC level - and then you interview them. The "Jones" character is something that reveals itself over the journey - its not something you can test in an 18 year old and come up with a definitive answer. The last footballer who was reported at draft time to have an insatiable desire to be the best he could possible be - was reported as a freakish trainer with a determination to be the best - was one T Scully - -look how that turned out.

You are missing the bleeding obvious. You are right to ask the question - what do the majority of picks have in common ? I'll ask the question - what do all our picks have in common. The obvious answer is they all came into our club. In all things in life - if a structure is rotten to the core - throwing people into is not going to solve the problem - you will just get rotten people. For too many years we have poor coaching, poor development, corrupt and inept administration, poor culture where close enough is good enough and no realisation of what it takes to succeed - and we wonder why all our draft picks failed ? Fastforward to this year - although it was a hardly a successful year the building blocks were put in place - we have a new coach, with A grade assistants and a highly competent CEO. Look at the recruits who came in - Vince - tick, Cross - tick , Tyson - tick. Salem and JKH - a pass mark. Improvement from many and the exiting of the NQR's. I have optimism for the first time because I believe the underlying cause of our malaise has been addressed. Good times won't happen overnight but we are pointing in the right direction. I believe what Roos said - he will leave our club a much better place than we he walked in.
-
Horrible coaching, horrible culture, inept administration ( infighting and schisms), zero development, no ethos in the club that hard work is required for success - and we wonder why so many picks have failed. There is something to be said about the characters of some of these footballers as the likes of Nathan Jones has improved despite the obstacles thrown at him (the major one being the way our club was run in every facet) because of his character and determination to succeed. If we could only bottle what Jones has inside him and distribute it to all at the club.
-
You noticed huh ? Jetta has never had a decent run at it injury wise. We keep hearing from footballers the value of a decent preseason and we see the effects on those who don't get the miles into the legs. What I hope for NJ is that he stays injury free - if he can I think he will be a valuable contributor.

I loved Whitlam for his vision and passion for making Australia a better place. He is rightly getting the plaudits deserved and when you look at his legacy it is impressive list of social change. It does need to be tempered in that he headed a government that did fail miserably on implementation and its attention to detail ( and in the loans affair - any semblance of governance). I do believe we are sadly any politicians of his vision. We talk about populist governments - how Australia early on embraced his commitment to change and how he was the first of television Prime Ministers. We now have politicians who don't fart unless an opinion poll tells them that is what the should be doing. Todays politicians are pretty committed to nothing. It is a tribute to Whitlams character and force of personality that he could be so popular whilst proposing an agenda that was fairly radical for those times.

I think what Viney needs to do is learn to get an easy ball. He is always in the thick of the action but also needs to find space more and get lots more uncontested stuff. Bernie Vince is the perfect balance of both hardball gets and uncontested linking in space.

strength through despair. Resilience through capitulation. -
Are we delisting anyone from Demonland ?
-
pigdog !
-
agreed - well it's not larger than fat Phil but that's another story. Would prefer you pay the club instead of me - I love the way he went about it season one and would be saddened if he didn't make it back. There is every likelihood he won't but I like his G&D and I give him every chance of getting back on the park again.
-
happy to take your money too. If I can get enough of these bets instead of donating to the club - I will buy it - call me Diamond Joe Nutbean,
-
I think it was somewhat of a throw away line and a clumsy attempt to repair any perceived damage from his "almost" trading out of the club. I would not think there is a chance of him receiving an extension until he is back on the ground and looking ok.
-
Did you know that Viney wanted Wines but was overuled by Neeld. (I also heard that Pilate wanted to give Jesus a suspended sentence but was also overruled by Neeld)
-
I know I should but I just can't...
-
I'll take that bet. I don't know whether he will ever be effective but I will take your bet that he will play seniors again. edit - i don't want your money - whoever wins the bet donates it to the club - are we on ?
