2018 Membership Thread
By memory a membership doesn’t count unless it is $50+. I thought the $1 thing was a good plan by the Saints. You had to give your details so if you didn’t follow through the Club could contact you. As you’d already signed up you must have had some interest in the Club. Smart move by the Club

Andrew Gaff
He is talking about the points system given to each draft number. Our first round pick last year (pick 10) plus our first round pick this year (say pick 11) minus the second rounder they give back to us = pick five. PS. I may have missed another piece PPS. I’m just happy they reckon we will have some salary cap space left!

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
Yep it is amazing. Last night on 360 Robbo went through Bombers’ tale of woe he almost implied Bomber had no choice but to end up where he is now. At one stage neither Robbo or Whately said anything at all and I thought they were having an impromptu minutes silence. If the guy is guilty I hope they lock him up.

Time to show Oscar some respect!
Even after just one game it’s not hard picture Charlie Spargo in there with Viney in the future..

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
Just watched the replay and saw Spargo having a go at Goddard again in the context of the match. Whatever you think of Goddard he is a 300 gamer, former captain of his club and dual All Australian player. For Spargo, the smallest bloke on the field but, more importantly, a first gamer to push Jones aside so he could get a better purchase on Goddard I found extraordinary. The kid has chutzpah. It made me laugh..

And at some stage during that meeting Oscar’s manager will say "so Lever’s on $800,000”.....

2018 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Wasn’t there a picture recently of Mark Bradtke with Gawn down at the Club? He was big enough that he made Gawn look normal size. @Satyriconhome do you know what Mark was doing at the Club? I had not heard of Austin till just now but if at 17 he is already 205cm and is athletic as described then I desperately want him at our Club.

Gaming - we are out!
I am against pokies but I am for a strong and stable cashflow for the Club. Makes me concerned how they will replace the lost revenue

Petracca wants to start in the guts.
Top speed maybe, I don’t know, but he has an awesome first couple of steps

DD do you think we would have more paid up members now if we had of played finals last year?

2018 Membership Thread
You would imagine there are a few members still sitting on the fence at the moment. Round 23 would have broken a few hearts and, like it or not, Jack Watts’s departure would have dismayed the marketing department even if not the football one. Win a few games and you would think all would be forgiven but you can’t expect all supporters to be as rusted on as us lot.

2018 Membership Thread
59 years! And there is the definition of insanity. Congratulations and commiserations to you MT. I wonder if there are any other Demonlanders who can claim more than 59? Does the MFC do $1 memberships at 50 years like the MCC does?

2018 Contracts and List Details
Congrats to Mitch. He has the lovely habit of making goals out of nothing. With his leap and ability to play at ground level he can be a difficult match up for the 5th or 6th defender. Will also add to our midfield depth. Good on him PS. I do like the way that even though it feels like Viney has been around forever and he is co-captain of the club when he comes out of contract at the end od 2020 he will still only be 26

And then Brayshaw, O Mac and Harmes who, going by training reports and AFLX form, is set for a good year.

Christian Petracca declares his loyalty (2018)
You would think most players would want at the start of their careers to finish as one club players. Most humans are loyal (long term, paid up MFC members being ‘elite’ examples) and would rather have success with the club that chose them as a 17 y.o. Of course it doesn’t always work out. Twelve of our 44 players started at different clubs meaning a tick over 70% are one clubbers. I have no idea what the league average is but 70% feels about right. Lets hope the core of our young group stay with us. Let’s face it there aren’t too many reasons to leave.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
The thing I find interesting is that I haven’t seen this thread for many months but now that I have I find my dislike for Essendon is as strong as ever.

2018 Membership Thread
My father was a passionate supporter. At his wake the last song played was the Grand Old Flag. All my cousins and their kids barrack for the Dees. As do my sister and her kids. My niece married into a Melbourne supporting family last year. At the wedding their were perhaps 150 guests and it was a struggle to find someone who didn’t barrack for the red and blue. Again the night closed with a couple of rousing renditions of the song. It was huge. My nephews wedding next year will be similar. The only family disappointment is my brother who is a football philistine who, I think, believes he is above all that nonsense. Fortunately his oldest inherited the Melbourne gene. For all the years of pain and disappointment I love being Melbourne
