So true — even pre COVID it was second rate, with shorter season plus byes, but now it lets down the emerging and returning players big time. Haven’t been able to see the Saints game yet, but by several accounts Jackson’s run in the ruck was very important in turning the tide around.

AFL under Gil and SHocking only seem interested in the 'elite' grade .... however, supporting at very least the 'seconds' is surely an integral part of maintaining quality at the top level.

His lack of awareness is how he got involved with that “shocking” Trengove incident all those years ago. Maybe he though that showing it on his “media” facade ie right side could draw sympathy or even admiration? And why not? They have so many times, up until this one.

I haven’t followed all of round 1, but does anyone have info on how many injury subs were used, and if any of those subbed out appear to have had “miracle recoveries” in time for round 2? If anyone subbed out plays this week the rule is a farce. Further than 12 days, if this is to be taken as a serious injury issue then the ruling should be a subbed out player is ineligible for the club’s next game.

Exactly the problem with this “quick fix”: it requires umpires to act instantly (and impartially). We got lucky this time but in a crucial very close game this will decide games, one way or the other.

Just watching the replay - Tom McDonald’s last goal from a free. Tom clearly ran wide to the right of the mark, and the Freo man on the mark just stood like a statue. Anyone who was there, was the man on the Mark casual or stupid, or was play on not called? Not clear from the replay.
