Kayo digital membership
Would you believe I today received an email from Kayo telling me that my membership is increasing to $29.99 per month and increase of $5.99 ( 1 stream in HD ). Hmm an almost 25% increase. I will pay it because my wife cannot attend Games due to mobility problems ( gee the ageing process is fun). I use it for VFL games and replays etc. I do watch a bit of F1, I watch qualifying then highlights of the races. These days the race winner is mostly decided by their qualifying position. This summer my teenage Granddaughter has been keen to watch Basketball both NBA and NBL games we often watch games together when she visits ( she lives close). A story from just yesterday, we had returned home after an early evening game in which she plays. She rang me to see if she could use my Kayo account to watch a BB game. After the call it occurred to me that I probably spend more time watching and attending BB than I do Football ( Demonland excepted ) these days. She plays in two competitions one Friday nights (Rep league under 16's) and one late afternoon Saturdays (Domestic under 18's) we go to both. My wife can go because I can drop her at the door to the stadium and then its a 20 metre walk from there. Add in my reluctance to attend mid winter night games of AFL and I guess $30 a month is not bad value and fortunately for me I can afford it but a 25% increase is still hard to swallow.

The VFL competition
Harvey this study would appear to being done by a mirror committee, they are looking into it.

The Sheffield Shield competition is at least a fairly well run affair, comparing it to the VFL is like comparing a cold to Covid.

The VFL competition
I have looked at a number of threads, but I could not find one that I thought fitted so I am creating a new thread I hope it shows something. It is not news to anyone on Demondland that this competition is supposed to be the AFL feeder competition and it is far from being a good event for the clubs involved. It has teams from three states, the clubs competing are made up of three types, Affiliated with and AFL club e.g. Casey, Clubs that are holey owned by an AFL club e.g. Collingwood and then clubs who are stand alone e.g. Williamstown. This structure is a dogs breakfast, it doesn't seem to serve any club well. E.G. there are too many byes, a player who is dropped because of a loss of form finds himself unable to play after being dropped to improve his performance , Injured players returning to the game can find himself only playing two games in a month because of Byes. The competition has a number of clubs that formed part of the original VFA which was swallowed up buy the AFL when it created a second tier feeder competition for its clubs. There are three perhaps more who cannot compete at anywhere near the competition top and constantly reside at the bottom of the competition. I don't see any benefit of having these clubs in the league, how does it benefit a team beating a club like Coburg by big margins. I have always been told that winning when you are far superior to your opponent does nothing for either team. The loser sinks further mentally and for the winner it is a poor training run that does nothing to show up the teams problem areas. Now the most important part in my opinion, The AFL does very little to promote this second tier and seems happy the go along with a competition that has numerous flaws. I read today in an article that had nothing to do with the VFL per say that the VFL will not be supported by television this year. Channel 7 will not provide coverage in 2026. Not even a game of the round. Where is the comment from the Media? I see zero comment on the problems of the VFL feeder competition by the media. Are they too scared to lose their AFL accreditation to write critical stories? How do the stand only clubs hope to raise enough funds to compete at the top when their main revenue source of expose by televised games has now been removed. Where is the value in a company sponsoring a club when the only team exposure is a few hundred people who go to games? Ok, enough of my rambling, I think this is a broken concept the AFL constantly sweeps under the carpet. Does anyone see any answers?

Training Ground?
That being the case I would say the only chance we have of moving forward is that the state government sees some advantage of moving forward and commit a substantial amount of money to the project before the state election in November. From my view point out here in the western suburbs I see little chance of that happening. I know 3 MFC supporters around me and that is the problem we are spread all over Victoria. There is not one or two electorates that a government member could look at his electorate and say Yep my constituents would think that is a popular move that will make a substantial number think well of me. Sadly we are not a Geelong or Footscray. Out here in the west there are numerous problems that need Government attention and funds that will impress the voters, the MFC is not one of them. From your Comment Mr. Leg it would seem the MFC is lashed to an anchor called the the state government until they cut us from this anchor nothing will happen.

Then why ain’t they moving forward, the School and the MFC are keen. What is the problem. We can safely that this saga is now years in the making. What is the hold up HW. The MFC have retracted into silence that has now been going on through multiple GM’s, multiple Presidents and boards. What is the hold up that has driven people underground for now years?

You are not alone Gorgoroth. I don’t believe the Racing club want to share. They have had it all to themselves for 150 years and believe they can out wait schools and pesky football clubs. They simply don’t want us or anyone else there. Drag it out till November this year and chances are there will be a change of government and it all starts again. A minority liberal government held in place by the right winger from QLD. That will be too hard for them and the MRC will carry on all by themselves.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 28th January 2026
Not sure about Tholstrup, Does not appear to have a talent that hurts the opposition. He had an interrupted Preseason at the start of 2025. When he was injury free he was dropped straight back into the senior side. No warm up games at Casey. I struggled to see what valued he was in 2025. IMO it is 2026 or bust!

PRESEASON TRAINING: Wednesday 28th January 2026
He had a three year contract for 2024 through 2026. I cannot see him playing this year and his contract will not be be renewed. A gamble that did not work out in spectacular fashion. He had injury problems at the Crows. IMO the worst recruiting decision of the Goodwin era.

New jumper sponsors?
Penrite is a seriously good company that has competed with large international companies in the Auto lubrication field and won. A top company to have as a MFC sponsor.

New jumper sponsors?
It might happen quicker.

TRAINING: Wednesday 28th January 2026
Is McAdam the worst recruit of the Goodwin era? He started 2024 injured and we saw him play 3 poor games. Out injured for all of 2025 and looks set to repeat than in 2026. Does anyone know what the current position is re his injury?

We may found his spot. GS keep in mind that it is training. It's like dancing with your sister. The real games show how much a player has improved or not.

It astounds me that someone in the media has not bought this terrible competition up for discussion.

Time will tell OD but it was time to change coach. We were stuck in a time warp. New ideas now abound.

Oh you have fun ahead DD. Mine started at about 24, except for sunburn ( just remember a hat) and occasionally hitting your head it's all fine. Honestly it has never worried me. The up side you save a fortune on Shampoo. Please don't wear a wig they look ridiculous.

My thoughts exactly George. I hope perhaps desperately that Caulfield gets the green light very soon but I am far from confident.

Jai Culley Breakout Season?
Funny my father long ago when I was playing under 18's said it is pity you don't have long blonde hair. You need something to make you stand out. I think he was just being nice as my ability sure didn'take me stand out.
