Which is who? I see no one at Melbourne that could kick 10 goals in a game now or in the next few years.
-
Like your confidence! However Watts should be compared to Franklin. Does anyone have the information on how he was travelling at the same age or number of games? Franklin is a game breaking CPF that is what we need from Watts.
-
I find myself agreeing with you again Titan. "NO" Our forward line is not up to kicking decent scores on a consistent basis. It will have its days out but not enough to make the eight.
-
I agree Titan and he is why Hawthorn won a flag a couple of seasons ago! Unless you have someone in your team like him you will struggle to get past 7 - 8th place. In most Hawthorn games they know he is going to come up with a few big plays every week.He can turn a game on his own. Unfortunately there is no one remotely close to Franklin at the Demons now or anyone young who gives me any confidence they will be in the future. I know the Franklins of the world do not grow on trees but without one I fear we are destined to be a 5- 6 th team at best. Which is of course a lot better thatn last.

Williamstown vs. Casey Scorpions (ABC TV)
old dee replied to Bleasey as that's topic in Melbourne Demons
I went to the game and have to say it was a poor experience, The Casey had a lot of the better Melbourne players out today but it was a poor effort. I went especially to watch Spencer, Contary to your thoughts I thought he broke even in the first half but was struggling by the end of the third quarter. Having said that he had a lot of mates, I could not believe the number of times Casey players went to ground the comparison to Willy was amazing! On todays effort I could not see one MFC player who earnt his spot in the Casy team let alone a spot at Melbourne. Unless there are injuries we do not know about no one will get in after their displays today. I would agree with your thoughts above "Sylvinator". Wona looks over weight to me and IMO he has played 3 -4 good games at Melbourne the next two months I think might be make or break for him. He has played little in last two seasons and a lot of players with similar size / ability have arrived at Melbourne and IMO have past him by. It was Fitzy first game He deserves a lot more time before we will know his true ability and I doubt that JC would have looked good in that side today. LJ showed up in a few passages but he spent most of the first half in the forward so did not see a lot of the ball, the skills were still there so do not worry about him. He needs 2 - 3 weeks to get match fit. Strauss I will cut some slack, however IMO, Bell, PJ,Wona and Maric are for the hi jump. Cheney will only ever be a battler at AFL level. Spencer! the jury is still out. -
Very good summery of the match Jack, thread seems to have changed so here goes. We have 4.5 wins because we have a good back line, a developing mid field and a ruckman who maybe the second best in the competition at present. However our forward line has no key position forwards so we try and make do with half forwards, smaller crummers and mid fielders who drift forward. Since Neitz left we have had no KPF. When he was playing he gave us a strong good marking forward. he got the ball a lot and kicked goals, when he was beaten and the ball came to ground there were other players to get the ball and score. So players like Green and Bate look very good. Neitz also took the best defender leaving lower ability backs on the likes of Bate etc. Look at the better teams they all have large tough KPF's Seen any one in the Melbournes team that looks like Mooney,Hall or Franklin? IMO that is the reason we do so well against Collingwood they do not have a good KPF either. IMO we will at best be only a mid field team until we solve this problem. I might be very wrong but I do not see anyone on our list that fits the bill. We all hope it is Watts but I do not see any mongrel in him. He is just a kid I know, lets hope that the toughness arrives as he gets older and stronger. He just looks too nice!!

Spot on Titan, The think that leaves me cold is when the ball goes into our backline and all the forwards flood over the centre leaving no one in our forward half let alone our forward 50. All season I have watched the Dees get the turnover and then have no one to deliver the ball to, It happened constantly on Monday. Surely we can afford one or god forbid two playes in our forward zone! Geelong always have a couple of forwards in their half of the ground why not us?

MFC & Wood supporters abandoned by VLine after game
old dee replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I normally drive to the ground from Taylors lakes, on a bad day it takes about 40 minutes to get out of the ground and then drive home. On monday I decided to drive to a station and then train it in as I expected a bigger crowd than normal. Took 40 minutes to get there however the trip home took 1 hour 35 minutes, stood at Jolimont for 15 minutes before a train arrived then 18 minutes at Finders street for a train on Broady line. Both times the trains went via the loop which must have added 20 minutes min. to the journey. Why the trains do not run the other way at that time of the day when the vast majority of people are leaving the city is beyond me. Then again these are the same peolple that have delivered MYKI to us!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Guys is anyone going to Willy next saturday? as there is no Demons fix. If you think Casey is cold wait till you get to Williamstown! I am goin as long as the weather is reasonable. However if it windy or rainy it will be the telly for me. That place is like the Artic on a bad day.
-
Agree they were both very good but the best guy for me was Jamar, he beat the Pies hands down I am struggling to remember a ruck clash he lost and was great around the ground as well. You will all fall on me but I thought Miller did a good job of helping Jamar out in the ruck today and with an ounce of luck he could have snagged another goal. He played tough today and was going as hard at the end as at the start.

All what you say is true but you know what! WE DID NOT WIN And at the end of the day that is all that matters. We will never be a force while we except anything less than a win. They did however play with a lot more fire than last week. Dunn in the forward line is a good move and while he did not kick a bag he fought it out every time it came near him. No easy kicks when you play on him. I have been a big critic but Jack earned his spot today.

Guys I just posted this in another topic. Sylvia is in my opinion very doubtful. He has been in hospital the best part of five days and would I believe have been on blood thiners. The level he would have been taking would have been high and I believe ( My wife is in the medical indusrty ) it would take a few days for his blood to return to normal. From her comments I find it hard to believe they would take the chance on playing Col with his blood in that state. If he still has thin blood any serious knock could lead to a haemorrhage of a serious nature. I do not think the medical staff would take any chance in that case. As well his toe will take some time to get back to normal. If he plays I will be very very surprised.

All of the above I agree with "PM24" however from the one game I saw at AFL level and a couple I have seen at Casey I think he is well below the guys you have listed above. If he does have a contact for 2011 I think he can count himself lucky. We have lots of smaller quick players similar to him that he is way behind. He will need some big games at Casey in the next month to justify a call up. Not sure he will make it!
-
I think we are going to have 3 out through injury and 1 -2 dropped for poor performance. So surely there is room to bring in Dunn and Hughes! Like Dunn, I saw Hughes twice and thought he was a little unlucky to be dropped. Both he and Dunn have a quality we will need on Monday and that is they are both strong and tuff. Neither will be bluffed by pie thugs. After we embarrased them earlier this year they will come out with all guns blazing, especially since we are getting a reputation for being slow starters.
-
Guys what is the situation with Meeson? He has been "indefinite" for close to a year now! What is his ankle injury? did his foot fall off? 1 year out and still no sign of him getting back seems strange.
-
That about covers it "Golf" but why hasn't Dunn been tried? Perhaps he isn't keen! surely after 8 goals on saturday he might be played at full forward for a couple of quarters!

Who is teaching Jack Watts to play as a key forward?
old dee replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
My gut feeling is that Franklins was making at lot more progress at 19 than our Jack. Does anyone know how old he was in 2007? -
Then back to my opening comment "My feeling ( based on very little info ) is that this year is a wash out. Should he be sent on holiday till 2011 pre season? " Or perhaps that is actually what is happening and the club just wants to keep the kids spirits up! Any way thanks for the info Guys. Does anyone actually know what the situation is with Meeson? He has been "Indefinite" on the injured list for 12 months?
-
Yes but we look like a bunch of Pansys in it, then again we used to be Fuchsias! Easy to see why we became the Demons.
-
If all the so called experts are correct forget about that until 2012 /2013.
-
I wonder about Bailey however he has had precious little to work with up till now. We now have a good back line, a developing mid field and one decent ruckman and a number of kids who look the goods but we will not know with some of them for another year or two. Unfortunately the forward line is very ordinary this year and will only be marginly better next year. 2011 will tell us if Bailey is any good, IMO we will have a side next year that should be knocking on the door of finals football. If we finish lower than 9th I will consider 2011 a failure.

Spot on "Loges" That about says it all.

Thank you for the information. Seems to me ( what would I know! ) that he should kiss 2010 good bye and get ready for pre season training for the 2011 season. Hope it is not another Nathan Brown ( Richmand ) job he never really came back from that broken leg. At least Sam has youth on his side.
