GAMEDAY: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
Looks like a lot of rain today in Perth mostly short heavy showers easing off into the evening but still present. So it should be slog combined with the poor conditions of the surface. Not a good evening for talls I suspect. Whichever team wants the game more will take the points. I thinks we are up to the challenge.

He usually gets the sub gig. Expect him there.

I guess the government is complicit also. They know sports gambling is corruptive but still happy to take its share of the profits.

Head high tackles
Gambling penalties are high for because deep down the AFL knows it cannot control sports betting and associated corruption. The AFL has to pretend they are cracking down seriously because it’s the only card they can play to show they are doing something. Every football identity who has been caught is only for trifling offences. Many of the huge bets placed on sports are certainly very suspicious. Like insider trading only the stupid get caught. It doesn’t take much brains to get a trusted associate to place bets and never get caught. I hate sports gambling and refuse to partake in it. It should be banned outright.

Angus Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2028
We wrapped this thread up in just over a 1000 posts. Thanks Gus for stopping it getting out of control and adding further inflationary pressure.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Problem is that he can walk out deal or no deal. Our bargaining position is weak and especially so if he’s determined to go west hell or high water.

Farewell Luke Jackson
His form is not bad enough to drop him and he still is a key structural player if we are chasing another flag. We still require a second ruck. In all honesty Weid or Mitch Brown could fill his role adequately if he can’t recapture his best form though. I really hope he starts putting in his best for the finals campaign. I’d hate to see him running the clock down and then leaving if that is his intention. It will be a massive kick in the guts if so.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Not if he has an agreement already done. A suitor might want him to take it easy and look after himself.

NRL and Union are entirely different sporting cultures. Far more mercenary and unemotional. Not sure why such a radical difference but it is what it is. Perhaps something to do with players having a worldwide market to play in.

Head high tackles
If tacklers were able to withdrawal their tackle once a player ducks in and raises his arms we wouldn’t have a problem. As players are expected to tackle hard or else risk being accused of being soft or missing the tackle, they have no choice. In reality it happens so fast that it’s physically impossible to withdraw the tackle in the time the high contact happens. A correct way to interpret it is to give the tackler the benefit of any doubt in 50/50 situations so as to discourage miscreants from repeating. If Ginnivan won this free he will have incentive to continue doing this as the percentages will be stacked in his favour. He will still successfully draw frees.

Have you enjoyed season 2022?
I am frustrated that we don’t seem to go hard enough for the entirety of most games. It appears the opposition nearly always are trying harder even when we beat them comfortably. It shows we have the talent and the game but slacking off too often. Smacks of arrogance and hubris. We certainly can do better and I’m expecting it for the remainder of the season.

Angus Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2028
My opinion is he’s waiting to see what Jackson does. He knows there will be plenty of salary cap left on the table if Jackson goes and he wants a nice fat chunk of it.

Head high tackles
Rule 17.3.2- (c) makes high contact to an opposition Player (including the top of the shoulders) with any part of their body;

Head high tackles
Redmond has not changed his posture at all from previous frame. Ginnivan is now is about 6 inches lower than in the previous frame.

Head high tackles
Check out the legs and knees. Nice side way dive.

Head high tackles
All I see is Ginnivan sensing the oncoming tackle and leaning into it. Redmond has lowed himself to the same height as Ginnivan and his tacking arm is at nipple height but Ginnivan has angled his shoulder down to initiate the tackle slipping high. He milked it for sure. Not giving him the benefit of the doubt is the correct call.

Must have got his info from Demonland.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Here in WA, fans say exactly the same. “Why recruit Eastern Staters because they all want to go home after a couple of seasons?” Cerra is a recent example. It’s a lot more difficult for a WA recruit to return because there are only 2 clubs to choose from. In the East there are 15 clubs to pick from and plenty with salary cap space.

Head high tackles
Jack Ginnivan gets a high free denied and the media goes berserk with outrage. Just another example of media flogging a horse from both ends. He did go low and raised his arm to draw the high free though the tackle may have gone high to start with. 50/50 call but the correct decision IMO. Helps further discourage players going in low and raising arm in tackle. https://twitter.com/FOXFOOTY/status/1551081604302327810?s=20&t=K0hqUD1layOKnUki0gRigQ

OUR USE OF THE SUB RULE
A lot of clubs are using the sub rule late in the game to put in play their sub for a player with only a minor injury and getting away with it. We have used our sub the least since in the rule was brought in. Why are we not exploiting this rule as well? We leave our sub on the bench usually a quick speedy player like Bedford to vegetate when we sorely need their skills as we seem to stop late in most games. Surely there is a player we can substitute who is carrying some form of injury or tiring.

Our biggest issue is...
We have conceded 25 goals after our last goal scored in our 5 losses. All of these games we were leading or within a goal before we stopped cold and let the opposition tear us apart. Last week we also let Port score the last 3 goals. They could have won with a few extra minutes on the clock. The playing out time game is not working. Other sides have worked this tactic out. In our losses, Freo scored 10, Swans 4, Pies 4, Cats 3 and Dogs 4 of the last goals in the games.

POSTGAME : Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Stoppage clearances last 3 games 62 to 97 against. We are getting murdered here and shows why we are struggling to move the ball. We can’t get our hands on it.

POSTGAME : Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
I wake this morning and we are still second on the ladder. We played well in parts but our pressure was way off and finishing off games is a concern. In our past three games we have conceded 3 or more goals for none scored late in games. Positive signs there for further improvement and looking forward to the Freo game.

POSTGAME : Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
i was thinking something like that would happen to Fritsch. Under pressure to do the team thing, stuff up and lose us the game. I would give him licence to play on instinct every time. He was on his left and in perfect position for a snap.
