I think part of the gameplan was for Juice to take one of the big defenders away from the goalsquare, leaving room for Green, Petterd etc, unfortunately we couldn't hit a barn door early on.......Bailey plays to peoples strenghts, not their weaknesses......Juice did ok

You can check out her Twitter page, if you see who she is following, it may explain her sports reporting or lack of, criticism has a place as long as it is constructive http://twitter.com/meagily

We live locally so I can get to JO quite often, again I had a chat with Luke Tapscott as he was as he put it enthusiastically "walking my first lap", much to the horror of my lovely lady who was with me, we asked him what he did and obviously he listens to the doctors he launched into this very descriptive medical diagnosis, I know it involved the cartilage so A. is probably correct but he lost both of us.....I could only reply "well you damaged it properly then" he laughed and said yes, he again is being treated cautiously, but thanked us for our support and said he was looking forward to playing for himself ,the team and the supporters who are really supportive which he appreciated

You wouldn't be doing Media/Journalism/Communications at Uni by any chance would you, I get the same reaction from my daughter who is when I have the temerity to criticise the inhabitants of the 'Fourth Estate"
-
Cale Morton is walking laps, had a chat over the fence at JO, well ahead of schedule but coming along nicely, at least another three weeks
-
"The runs aren't in the bank for Col anymore after a whole season ruined by injury. I think he should have been made to earn his stripes for a bit longer in the VFL prior to playing his first game" Didn't copy whole reply, again we have wandered off topic but believe this needed answering, Col Garland only had a foot injury, he didn't have his talent and ability surgically removed, the Club would have been itching to get him in the side as soon as possible
-
I have seen Max Gawn at JO a couple of times, he is starting to run laps and sprints, kicking drills as well, but he is a big unit, so they are probably being very cautious with him, seems to have added bulk to his frame as well, looks like a small mountain on the move, had a chat to him on one of his laps, just getting himself right and following instructions, does not want to go backwards

I think it is because we are getting better players into positions around him now, as I have said in previous post, the developement of the middle tier players like Bate, Bartram, Dunn, Newton etc had stalled, they have had a couple of years with Bailey, but last year, especially we were playing more to lose. After Hawthorn, they were told in no uncertain terms they have to perform, they are improving all the time, but I regard them as only a year or two into their development........also Bartam has to perform every game, he will stay in the side if he does as long as there is a role or matchup.......but for one he has Cheney breathing down his neck as well as Bennell who will revert to the role when we get another crumbing forward up and running such as Jetta and Wonna

This is Bailey's mantra about building bodies, Bail has had a pretty good preseason, and I believe a professional trainer and looks after himself........... you now have size and speed (the Geelong model).....if you look at Kyle Cheney as well he is bigger and TMac........we have followed our rookie Rhys Healey who has a a good preseason as well, he is about 10k heavier than when he arrived.....and is strong

This discussion has gone way off topic, for my two bob's worth, as I noted before, McNamara is only young (he only turns 20 at the end of this month) and he has had a growth spurt and has developed physically, better than the Club probably thought, I think unless there is an injury he will spend most of the season in the VFL getting consistency into his game, they are probably looking at him as a backup for Frawley....may get rewarded with a few runs to check his progress at the end of the season

I have played both games, a 'spear' tackle is when the players legs are lifted above the horizonal and his head is driven into the ground, I am glad Dangerfield is not seriously hurt, but he fought the tackle and Juice came in from the side, it made a pleasant change not to see a player plop forward looking for an in the back, he just landed awkwardly and has probably strained a couple of neck muscles.......there is also a topic full of hysteria on 'Ology, it is a contac/physcial sport, if he had broken the tackle and got away, Bailey would have been furious with the players.........we have had sickening collisions, head clashes etc last weekend.....nobody died...they are fit young men who are used to body contact......it is usually Joe Average who tries sommething stupid who ends up in a wheelchair.....let's make it a non contact sport and you get a free kick if somebody looks at you the wrong way.sigh

Yes we can all be a little frustrated by Brad during the game, but he gives his all, from Gotch's review of the Casey game, this is why he has been retained, he leads Brad Miller - 8 Kicks, 2 Handballs, 3 Marks, 3 Tackles Brad Miller worked hard without much reward. His strength is his leading, and his ability to outrun his opponent - So, he created a lot of contests, but Geelong rolled the numbers out in front of him, which made it difficult. He wanted to contribute to the hardness side of the game, and he certainly did that. His leadership was terrific with all the young guys. I’d say that Brad would be one of the instigators of why we got across the line with the win, because he never gave up, he kept pushing the boys, kept the spirit up - didn’t worry about the scoreboard, and before we knew it, we’d hit the front at the 23 minute mark. Brad played a big part in that.

The report is a glowing example of why the Club is going forward. Strauss - praise of his endeavour and willingness to learn McNamara - still only very young but developing nicely Cheney - knocking very loudly on the door and keeping a quality player under control Spencer - the AFL games are helping him and he is improving every game, he is still very young Watts - praise and then a bit of a belt, make him try harder Maric - same as Watts Gysberts - will only improve Healey - the great unknown who everybody wants to delist, getting a go and quelling an AFL experienced player, give him time, you will notice the versatility being developed also Miller - much maligned but did not sulk like Robbo did when he got sent back, leadership, that is why he is still here Martin - same as Spencer, except his youth is in years playing the game PJ - an honest appraisal, but he will gat better
-
Bennythejet, thank you, I held my keyboard back, it does continually amaze me that as we bring these young guys into the side, some posters pick holes in them after 1 or 2 games, Bailey would not pick them if he thought they could not produce. I expect every young player coming into the side to be the embodiement of what Bailey wants, Jetta, Bennell, Bail, Cheney have shown this........
-
My bit, I have played both Rugby League and Footy, we are looking at pictures and slow motion replays, Dangerfield tried to break the tackle, and Juice came in from the side and dragged him down, there was nothing wrong at all with the tackle, made a change for Dangerfield not to fall forward like he had been shot trying to milk a free for in the back. Glad he was not hurt, but the tackle was OK.....media organisations need to milk everything

all together now.........it was his third game.......like Bennell, he gets me excited with some of his play, if he makes a blue, so what, every player makes them.we have become too stat oriented.......he had a hand in a couple of the goals, and ran all day, and as you said, dived headfirst into contests.......it is football, I have watched it for over thirty years, we are over analysing it.......enjoy the game, mistakes and all, that's what makes it so exciting, we played a team with 18 defenders in the last quarter because of necessity, and our efforts to break it down, riddled with errors was just great......I can't wait for the day when a team wins 10 points to 6 when both teams are 100% efficient and the ball stays between the two goal arcs..and the lowly point scores come from the occasional free kick and 50 metre penalty...fans will love it
-
I think you will find the problem with Davey was he took a heavy koock early in the game, and battled through it, the new team ethic.......he could have just sat down and left us short on the bench......cramp comes from longer game time, you can do all the training you like but doesn't replace the game experience.....quite a few players have shown it on the televised games as well.....it is early in the season
-
Stats: they are wonderful.....if a ball comes out of a scrimmage and Bail has to just hack it forward - ineffective disposal, if he handballs in traffic and ball gets knocked down or bounces away from recipient - ineffective disposal if kick is taken by the wind over the head of intended recipient - ineffective disposal........au contraire, if Chip and Garlo exchange a couple of kicks between them in back half - effective disposals......sigh....look at game see Bail is adding something different actoss the half forward line, wing..effective
-
Dappa, you have to realise the 'keyboard coaches' need this, also there are one or two posters that need the opportunity to bash their player of choice regardless of whether they played well or not the previous game. I'll do my bit... There may or may not be changes this week, somebody will go out of the 22 and somebody from the remaining 24 will come in, I'll let Dean Bailey decide what will be best for the team
-
No it is not, it is usually a few family and friends, but believe Chris Connoly got carried away with the win and threw the doors open........
-
Cameron Schwab summed it up best in his speech in the Harrison Room after the game, watch it.
-
Seconded, no develop youngsters is the mantra, Joel Macdonald was a good pick up, so unless there is a need.
-
"Given we are playing Richmond, I would also like to see us pick Watts. But another good game in the VFL would also be good for his confidence" The one thing Jack Watts is not lacking is confidence, Bailey has given him a challenge, he says Watts will spend four or five weeks in VFL, Watts responds with a really good game for Casey, if he does the same next week he will be knocking on the door. Bailey wants them banging the door down, so therefore you get two exemplary games from McNamara and Cheney, they have had a taste and want back in. This is the future going forward, real competition for places.
-
And you reasoning behind this is?
-
Bailey would never join in, as he stated the week before, it is the players who play and win
