I’m passing up a birthday party with three very good bands playing, so that I can sit with my son in front of the telly. Having given up the booze, I can’t even enjoy a cold one while the game is on… looks like hot dogs/pies and coke.

Which makes it all the more pleasing… it means we were performing against a team that was 100% committed, as opposed to just going through the motions in a practice match.

Yes, I checked again this afternoon and the Foxtel guide is now showing the game, so it will be broadcast here in Sydney, after all.

I thought the same, but my son pointed out that Kayo is a streaming app, whereas Foxtel is a dedicated broadcast service. To me, that makes sense.

And what the hell is it with the Geelong v Hawthorn practice match… 8x30 min quarters PLUS time on!!! That could end up being 4hrs 40mins of playing time!!

The description is very ambiguous. Do they mean that the games will be divided over Kayo and Foxtel, or all games shown on both? I suspect that it is the former, as on checking the Foxtel guide, only the Syd v Bris and Freo v Adel are appearing as live games. If that is indeed the case, then unless you have Kayo, which we don’t, then you miss out on the live coverage. Is there any chance these streams could be shown over the AFL app, or will there be any radio broadcast (eg, Casey radio)?

I liked Westworld, although I thought the final season was a bit weak. The series' I've been enjoying lately are: His Dark Materials Season 3 (Foxtel) - all three seasons have given an excellent interpretation of the three books in the trilogy. Cunk on Earth (NetFlix) - very funny mocumentary in which genuine historians etc are interviewed to lend credence to Cunks views. The Last Of Us (Foxtel) - based on the video game the action takes place in a dystopian post apocalyptic world; I was a bit dubious at first, but so far, having watched the first 4 episodes, this is a brilliant show! Wednesday (NetFlix) - a very enjoyable series based around Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family; typical Tim Burton stuff. Raised By Wolves (Foxtel) - started off really well, but then they pulled the plug on it at the end of season 2, with so much left unresolved. War Of the Worlds (SBS On Demand) - all three seasons are fantastic! Dark (NetFlix) - another that started off really well, but by the final season had gotten itself so mixed up in its parallel universes, that it could only ultimately disappoint. 1899 (NetFlix) - same team as made Dark, but this is a much better series involving time shifts.

And I’m still awaiting delivery of mine and my son’s interstate membership packs! I’ll be calling them tomorrow, but this on top of today’s training fiasco, are giving me a bad feeling about the public facing part of the club’s administration.

Peter Wright had a great season in 2022, finishing 8th in the Coleman. I’d say he was easily their best and most productive player.

The Reels were a brilliant band. I used to see them at French’s in Sydney in the very early 80’s and then saw them after a few years when the were touring the Neighbors album that contained all of the cover tunes as well as a revamped Shout and Deliver. I know the bass player Paul Abrahams… he now plays upright bass in bluegrass bands.

As I’m still waiting on mine and my son’s Membership packs to arrive (as yet no notification of anything being sent), I decided to phone the club… it was 3:40pm and all I got was a recorded message telling me phone hours were from 9am to 4pm and thanking me for my interest, after which it hung up. Not happy!

The World Cup final was a brilliant game… anyone who found that boring due to the fact that there’s not a change to the score every couple of minutes, would be in danger of rigor mortis setting in. The only negative for me, generally speaking, is that the commentators do not call out diving, but rather, show concern for the player that dived. I found it a bit sad that in such an important game, Argentina’s De Paul found it necessary to dive any time an opponent went near him (I haven’t heard such screaming by a player since the Wimbledon tennis final). He was a blemish in an otherwise spectacular game of football. If the commentators started calling in out in no uncertain terms, then perhaps we would start to see less of it occurring.

Bring back bell bottoms, I say!
