So impressed with Michie. He adds so much hardness to our team and his skills are first rate. I hope he stars against his old team next week.

Look what happens when we play FOUR quarters of pressure, pressure football. Gee, in the last quarter the tigers looked stunned and I thought I was watching the fanatical Sydney team in action. And don't say Watts didn't put in tonight. Strangely, as others have observed, his skills were down.

And does he ever enjoy his footy. So mature. Did you see Petraca come over after the game and give him a pat on the back. Can't wait to have both of these young guns together in our line uo. And yes, it's early but I can see immense leadership qualities in this kid.

I think Jack plays his 100th next week.

Now Vaggie just you listen up! Modesty prevented me from replying to this earlier. You, a far better goal kicker than ME? Look at the stats. McKenzie 125 games for 252 goals (av. 2 goals a game). Tunbridge 117 games for 129 goals and you Barrie, 115 games for 132 goals. I was also better looking than you!!!! Good on you mate.

You date yourself hemingway if you can remember my laconic approach to footy. Not many remember me on this forum. Maybe Old Dee could be a chance here.

GAME DAY - Anzac Eve Game vs Tigers
Bobby McKenzie replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
I always enjoying viewing our games against the Tigers. Whether it is our home game or not, we are always in our correct MFC jumpers. The contrast too between our red and blue and their yellow and black is a big bonus. No doubting who has the ball (hopefully us!). -
Now both of you guys were great , BUT not as classy and as MODEST as ME !!!! Looks like us half forward flankers have show our present boys that you can kick goals from football's so called 'graveyard'.

GAME DAY - Anzac Eve Game vs Tigers

Victoria hardly one of the 'weakest' states over the past 5 decades dee-luded. Have a look at the figures. Winners: WA 14, NSW 11, Victoria 10, Queensland 7, South Australia 5, Tasmania 3. Wooden Spoons: South Australia 14, Tasmania 12, Queensland 9 Victoria 9, NSW 6, WA 0. I guess one could say WA the dominant team over the past 50 years although not recently. -
Particularly Cloke. He misses so many sitters.

That 'on to the feet' recovery was great to see. Reminded me of the late great Donny Williams. Newton got up onto his feet pretty well too. Gee, am I dreaming but how could ALL our new players be so good on Saturday. I was most impressed with them all. Love Garlett's speed and chasing ability. As some have said a reincarnation of The Flash' Davey. May it all continue throughout the season. -

Guys, I don't wish to be picky but it's LUmumba not Lamumba. A lot are spelling his name wrong. No, I am not in a bad mood it's the schoolteacher coming out in me I guess. -
The silly season is upon us ... already

I don't know whether Peter Moore had no club commitment. He did win the Brownlow in 1984 playing for Melbourne. Must have done something right I reckon. -

If it had been on the opposite pocket, I would go for Salem. What a beautiful kick for goal. Look at our last goal on Saturday from Salem. Split the middle so effortlessly. -

Just had a look at the Shaw report footage. Great to see the Melbourne boys getting into it including Jack Watts. Also impressed with Jeff Garlett's concern for Dean Kent lying on the ground. He appeared, with a protective arm, to be making sure no one landed or trod on Dean. Well done Jeff Garlett! -

Thanks for that information Demonised. It works perfectly. I have it bookmarked for the season. -
I must have a very different definition of the word hack. Cross is an absolute gun and a very valuable team member. Are you saying this with tongue in cheek Biff? If so, I have taken the bait.

Thanks daisy cutter. I remember being told this now. The old memory is not too reliable at times.

A friend asked me what the 5 stars on our logo represented. I could not give him an answer. Does anyone know the answer to this one?

Great story mate. He must have been a character as well as a bloody good footballer.
-
Also loved the article which stated that he once started pre match warm up with his weekly free pie still in his hand. How different from today. The pies were much much bigger in those days too. Took much longer to eat let alone digest.

So sad to hear of Tunna's passing. Those wobbly punt kicks sailing right through the goals were so ugly but oh so BEAUTIFUL! Boy, did it make opposition supporters want to hit their heads against the nearest fence post. Geoff was a left footer and could not kick with his right foot but even though his opponents knew this he had the speed and elusiveness to run in a big arc before sending yet another goal through for his beloved Demons. They rarely, if ever caught him. Thanks for the memories Tunna and may you rest in peace and watch over our present boys as they attempt to rise up the ladder. A great player of the Melbourne Football Club.
