  1. I would think that staying in Melbourne would be one of a myriad of motivating factors for him to re-sign with MFC. Technically, Sydney airport is 1 hour and 20 minutes by plane and add the trip from the airport to West Sydney on top of that- but for arguments sake we will say it is a one hour trip. One hour by plane/24 hours, the result is the same; home base is in a foreign land with no family/support network present. I am sure most people on this site would move to the other side of the planet for the alleged money on offer from the GWS, heck- I would consider a move to Mosul for that cash, but what you fail to see is Scully is not like you or I, or indeed anyone on this site. He has a very particular set of skills, skills he has acquired over a very long (short) career, skills that make him a nightmare for people like you (other clubs) Basically what I am trying to say in a Liam Neeson Taken-esque kind of way is that Scully has the potential to earn massive coin and he knows it. The only way you, myself or a good majority of this board could hope to see that kind of moolah would be if we hit the lottery. In short Scully knows there will always be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for him- he doesn't have to give up his dreams at this current stage to go searching for it. He can chase the dollars after the success- as most professional people do.
  2. You're kidding me? And I had to get silver off ebay from a dirty poacher?!? Ludicrus! You know what they do don't you? They sell a heap of tickets to Stub Hub, ticket liquidators and other third parties prior to any public sale, who offer the tickets even before the UFC fight club at insane prices, package them up with VIP passes and the like and obviously no one bought them, they still have to sell them; it's all a big scam, they have deals with other ticket sellers, and it's always the little guy who gets screwed!
  3. Was listening to SEN a caller said he was from the inner sanctum at Melbourne and Scully isn't going anywhere. Now of course we must take this with a grain of salt but when you weigh everything up- dreams, mates, family, rich culture, history, the MCG Vs money and money alone the decision becomes quite easy indeed. On another note- a caller named Terry (North supporter) called up and spewed a shite load of vitriol, called us a PATHETIC club, with PATHETIC supporters "and there are only half a dozen of them" (rich coming from a North supporter) who are only good because we "tanked the last 5 years" and are only good at "holding out our tins for handouts" This guy made my blood boil. What is it about North supporters? So bitter, so jealous! They are all upset that we are the club that gets all the attention, they get none. They are boring, they have a boring strip and a boring emblem. Kangaroos are boring too, what do they do? Hop? [censored] me off!!
  4. No they don't, I was always under the impression they sold out in the states, just not as fast as they do here. I guess when you only have an annual event for a whole nation everyone wants a piece- what do the US get, more than 5? Canada sells out quick too. All that kerfuffle over nothing at the end of the day- still can't believe I didn't need a code for the UFC fight club pre-sale. Oh Jones V Shogun is a dream match up. I feel Jones will win but Shogun is a great fighter. It will probably be Cro Cop's last UFC outing too as I expect Shaub to smash him. Would have loved to see Little Nog V Ortiz too but they moved that to a UFC fight night instead. Ortiz is going to get KTFO!
  5. FUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKK!! I had no idea! After the Sots fight I was looking forward to this one the most. A replacement has been found in Brian Ebersole- I had never heard of him, don't think he has fought in the UFC previously but he has won his last 7 fights. Dissapointed. I feel for Rashad blowing out his knee but ecstatic that Jones gets a title shot, I was on this kid the moment I saw him step in the Octagon and now I get to see him go for a title shot in the flesh. Bring on March 19th at the prudential centre Newark! Can not wait!!
  6. Tell it like it is.. don't hold back now. Stats are useless in any case. They are for nerds.
  7. Unrelated fear, but does anyone else get scarred Jurrah is going to get injured/someone is going to try to snap him every contest? He just seems so delicate- maybe it's just me..
  8. Loved the way the back line worked together last night, Rivers was solid, Macdonald was a rock and Garland was brilliant. Batram showed a bit of dash as did Bennell. To think we have an AA to put back in there just wets the pants a little. Cook looks like he could develop into a nifty CHF, nice strong pair of hands. The rookies Evans and Nicholson impressed and my man Jetta done some nice things and has the moves to get himself into space. So many encouraging things to come out of last nights mutant of an AFL game/s- the rules were [censored] and proved more of a hindrance than a help, and we got absolutely SHAFTED game one re umpiring decisions- game two was a little better in that regard although we did get the rough end a couple of times (felt sorry for Nicholson who was adjudicated to play on when he got pushed in the back, and then holding the ball straight after) and it could have turned things against us, but the boys 'stuck fat' Errant kicking from both teams kept us in the games but it was our endeavour that got us over the line. Make no mistake we got smashed in the clearances even though from what I saw we won our fair share of the tap-outs. The absence of Scully hurt us as it appeared most of the tap outs were tailor made for the little fella. Adelaide also smashed us in F50 entries until Sylvia and co got their little rocket boots on. I believe the most encouraging aspect of last nights game was the arrival of Mr Watts. First pre-season since joining the club and it is starting to show. The contentious boundary rules are only in place for week one, and thank [censored] for that!
  9. I find it hard to participate in a hypothetical that involves Jurrah- no chance he will go anywhere. However if there was a choice I'd be hoping Nasher has a spare bullet for me!
  10. I'm expecting to see a competitive contest with no capitulations, I want to see as many newbies debut as possible. A win, or wins would be a bonus but not the be all and end all. Just want to see some bloody football!
  11. Oh, my, god!!! Are you serious?? This isn't how contract negotiations work.. Scully not signing now isn't a sign of disloyalty!! Talk about MFCSS to the extreme. I for one am so thankful none of the players read this forum! I find quotes such as these insulting to the character. FWIW it is well documented that Scully is the ultimate professional when it comes to his footy- the guy lives, eats and breaths footy. He dreams footy- he probably sleeps with his footy. Scully's main drive- his goal is the ultimate success in his chosen field; a premiership. Money is a by-product of his driving force in life. Money is the after dinner mint.
  12. No no no. When public forums fail..
  13. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/107144/default.aspx From the article: ST KILDA has suspended and fined four players - including grand final defender Zac Dawson - after they breached team behavioural standards on a recent training camp in New Zealand. The Saints, whose pre-season has been dogged by the infamous nude photo scandal, have confirmed that Dawson, Rhys Stanley, Jack Steven and Paul Cahill misused prescription medication, drank alcohol and left the team hotel against a player established policy while on the week-long training camp. They have been suspended from the club for six weeks and fined a maximum $5000 each after meeting with the Saints' leadership group on Monday. What the hell is wrong with the Saints?? What the hell is right with the Saints?!
  14. Alcohol AND drug use it has been reported. Move over Eagles, there's a new rable in town.
  15. Expectations are totally different to hopes. FWIW I too hope Frawley has to fight his way back into the team. No one should be a walk up start in a strong team. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/107138/default.aspx reason for edit- new article up on AFL.com.au about Bailey's thoughts on the Frawley's recuperation time and the NAB cup format. Says we will be picking our fittest players for NAB cup preliminary rounds. No surprises
  16. That sounds like a presumed "lock" to me. Still jet lagged Jaded? Inhaled too much volcanic ash on your travels?
  17. No.... that's not jumping the gun at all... Still can't believe some people think Grimes is a lock for the next captain. We have many candidates.
  18. Must have strained his wrist playing Playstation or something, couldn't see it was from over-exertion on the training track. In any case this is more of a set-back as opposed to tragedy. At least there is no chance of him hurting a colleague in the practice match.
  19. WJ and Demonland are attending the intra-club match, so it looks like we will.
  20. Thank you for all the reports guys, greatly appreciated from those of us who can't be arsed going. I suppose we will find out exactly who is injured and who isn't during the intra-club practice match, and obviously will be interested to see (through someone else's eyes) how our rookies and first year players handle themselves, how our yet to debut second year players in Blease and Tapscott (if he plays) travel and how our backline sets up. Will be interesting in seeing who takes FB and who covers Bruce's role.
  21. Only just watched the event, was a good show- Pat Barry fought well I thought, but yes, definitely saw the Cro Cop envy and that kind of [censored] isn't going to fly with a more skilled opponent. Thought he only done just enough to get himself over the line and I don't think he is skillful enough to toy with his opponents. Great kicks though- take them out of his arsenal and he has nothing. Interested to see who he will be fighting next actually. Winman did look good and they attributed that to his high altitude training which is interesting. He was relentless with his attack, I like Miller as a fighter but thought he made a big mistake round 1 where he tried to pull gaurd- too early, Winman [censored] him with a few elbows and heavy shots and he wasn't the same after that. He can take a hit though. Hominick and Guillard looked brilliant. I thought Poirier recieved a title shot against Aldo for beating Grispi, Grispi was next in line for Aldo but seeing as Aldo was injured and Poirier beat Grispi down, shouldn't he be awarded a title shot? Either way this Featherweight division is going to be a beauty, I think Hominick is going to give Aldo a run for his money and they will line up at UFC 129 apparently (a shame I miss that by one event!) Guillard is looking scary and unbeatable. Sucks to be a lightweight right now. Surely G Sots deserves a title shot if he disposes of Siver.. do we think he will get it? It's taken Fitch forever to receive his.. I have a feeling the proficient strikers are considered more exciting then the ground specialists- hope this doesn't have a bearing on Sotiropolous's chances. He deserves it, and that isn't a bias call.
  22. From the article- ''It's the ability to smile and walk away and not get involved and understand what you stand for.'' I find it ironic that Lyon would say this, after Riewoldt obviously cracked the sads and allowed a scuffle to ensue. If he was this easy to rile up whilst getting his fish and chips imagine what it is going to be like in the heat of battle, out there on the football field. I predict this pre-season incident is going to affect their season in a negative way. I can only imagine what Sam Newman is going to do with this material. Obviously nothing too witty- but he will ensure all wounds are re-opened in a timely matter for round 1. I love all of this tom-foolery. Whatever makes our opposition weaker I am all for.
  23. Freo are not without their problems also; http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/106849/default.aspx Morabito out for the season, Roger Hayden out until mid-year and second year key forward Houghton missing up to 8 weeks with a broken right forearm (see article)
