CHANGES: Rd 04 vs Port Adelaide
Watching from an armchair in another state probably dis-entitles me to contribute in an informed way. I have no idea what goes on off the ball except for Langers who pops up at either end of the field faster than the ball. However what is obvious is we are not playing at a level the coaches will think is satisfactory (due to our makeshift backline) and our ugly wins in the past two weeks cant continue if we really want to contend. Tmac is down but what is he being asked to do? I doubt we need his height down back. Lever in will steady May who is struggling without him. Port will be dangerous and GWS the following week a handful. It will be a tough couple of weeks for the selectors.

2022 Free Kick Differential
https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/livid-afl-fans-fume-at-mindboggling-umpiring-in-dogs-vs-swans/news-story/7d6f06c269f737b9c9f1a60a5d3d9d85 The AFL is right to back the umpires in most circumstances but as stated above that does not mean some sober reflection on trends in Umpiring shouldn't be discussed. It doesn't mean the Umpires are actually biased merely there is an issue that needs to be addressed. Most workplaces these days discuss the issue of unconscious bias. It has been plain as a pikestaff over the years there is a bias in Perth caused by something (possibly the crowds influence) but little has been done about it. The dogs free kick advantage should be discussed and addressed. Ps: Which brave journo will ask Bevo about it at a press conference?

Who to cull?
Indeed. Now West Coast are not high on my faves list nor could I imagine extending them sympathy but the current situation is pretty inequitable. Simpson has not moaned about it. Given this could happen to any club depth this year is very important.

CHANGES: Rd 03 vs Essendon
At first I was tending to agree re Tmac but quiet reflection suggests all our forwards struggled to really get into the game. I dont think you could say either BBB or Fritta were clunking them and our smalls were off as well(ANB excepted). Cossie was really down in the first half but really worked himself back into it. A long way of saying either they were all off or we were worked over by GC on strategy. That is not fixed by dropping Tmac who may be needed down back. I'd be surprised if Tmac was dropped.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Wake me up on page 50. Truth is that players these days are encouraged to think beyond one club, the AFL wants that to happen as the whole trade thing is part of the entertainment. Players have grown up watching the careers in the NBA. On that basis he must be a 50/50 risk which would escalate should he get another flag with us this year, not because of his character just the era we now live in. That said i thought his body language was stay, all other things being equal.

Sparrow Extends for 2 Years
Two years signals to me he thinks his stocks will rise which is only a good thing for us. Very good news.

CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Gold Coast
As noted elsewhere we may be sanctioned for playing an extra man (Tom Morris) so it seems he will be omitted for this round. Apart from that forced change I have no idea on changes. I found it interesting on Fox the panel were talking about everything that Melbourne does off the ball (and you dont see on screen) as being critical to our plan. I think we slightly suffered forward for not having TMac there (although Bb was epic) so apart from changes down back we may need to think about that. It will be fascinating to see how the coaches see it.

Bevo unleashes on Tom Morris
As a journalist he was just doing his job and it was merely about a selection. It was an amazing and in my view unjustified attack. ..

POSTGAME: Community Series vs Carlton
From the get go we lacked system especially in the back half, if we want to be able to interchange our usual back 6 for the Casey back 6 the latter needs to learn the system and to be cohesive. It was a mistake putting Gus there in the hope he would play the Salam role. We did not work hard enough going back when the blues were flooding. Where was our discipline?Max will be filthy with himself and justifiably others. Get the ball back and no dissent. Its not just about the umpiring if we are disciplined it spills into our other systems. Poor kicking (yes Trac) and decision making (Spargo) in the front half cost us early goals. I think a chat at Sorrento pub is required.

Scott: 2021 Cats/Dees Prelim Should've Been Postponed
Is my recollection correct that after the game he made comment about the sickness in the group, noting of course it wasn't an excuse. Anyway we should move on except for one matter, his assertion Selwood is the best captain in the competition. He fairly admits he is biased but is totally wrong and slights a great leader and captain. Max clearly is the best captain, by a country mile. Why? He has led a team out of the wilderness having committed to doing so. Anyone who saw his performance in the last game of the season against Geelong and the prelim could not doubt his on-field qualities but its his off-field actions that really make him a great leader. His leadership under adversity and against the weight of history is far more telling than individual efforts in games.

Gone in 40 seconds.
Some might say to kick 3 goals within a minute is a fluke but to do it twice in the same quarter is genius. Significant family events aside possibly the best 2 minutes of our collective lives. Quite possibly tThe best ten minutes of football I have ever seen and i did watch Gawny in the PF. Consistent with years of training I couldn't call the game until the last 2 minutes but the last half of the 4th was a surreal experience. I only wish i had more alternate commentaries to listen to over and over.

Grand Final Celebration at the G
Contacted the club and they said no plans but would raise it with the events team. Really quick response, well done to the team there.

Grand Final Celebration at the G
Will anyone from interstate be allowed with the new variant on the scene? Is there any chance the club will live stream the event?

Lucky Omen?
Whats the fuss about 57?

Here it is….
We would take good care of it here in Sydney. I think the club is doing a great job by not being precious about the cup and letting supporters see it given most couldnt get to the game.

Congratulations Max
Congratulations to Jess and Max, what a wonderful time for you both and so much to look forward to with George in your family. Enjoy!

Manning the Mark Rule Change
I dont like it with my main beef being the advantage it gives to the person taking a set shot especially from about 55 as that is my view unfair.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
Ah the mystery of pick 17. I doubt we are simply hoping someone will drop down the order. I assume we think there is someone a bit lower that we rate as a good prospect.

Robbo’s Top 50 2021
Raises lots of interesting questions, mine is how can you win the Brownlow and only rate at 6? (Still i still wonder how Tulip never won it.)

What’s your favourite GOAL from the Grand Final?
As has already been said this is a fabulous thread that reconnects with those wonderful (but incredibly short) periods in the GF that contributed to the ultimate prize. The joy in the descriptions of each goal is palpable. Fritta, Clarry, Trac, Gus, Lingers.... I just stop to think what a list of options. I am not going to pick one until I have watched them all again. Ps: Last night I was watching part of the PF and my partner said it still doesn't feel real given how we won those games. I cant wait for lock downs to end so i can to have my fellow dees over for a footy marathon.
