Nibbler’s value has significantly increased with rotations dropping to 75 and the return to full length quarters. The boy can run as far as the day is long. Couple that with what looks to be a spell of strong form and It wouldn’t surprise me to see him playing the majority of games this year. This game is must win IMO. If we don’t, it’s not an overstatement to say that Goodwin immediately goes on notice. He’s essentially done that to himself by stating in so many words that top 4 is the pass mark. We simply ,must start the season on our home ground against Freo with a W.

Yep, I’ll save my outrage for when we get smashed with a full strength side.

Mark Maclure "Soft Culture" Comments
P-man replied to Half forward flank's topic in Melbourne Demons
Fascinating stuff. Maclure is the single laziest blockhead in the football media. He blatantly puts nil effort into his job and instead trots out the same football cliches as a substitute for saying anything remotely insightful. And he actually gets away with it because our collective standards aren’t higher and he was part of a successful side in the 80s. -
Poor goal kicking is poor football.

Christ. Finally.

Deserved scoreline. Outmuscled and outclassed today.
-
Can’t make the distance with the kicks and it’s killing us.
-
Any danger of us getting a HTB?
-
When Daisy is kicking it straight to an oppo jumper inside D50 you have to think it may not be our day.

Let’s face it. They’ve been better in every facet so far.
-
Following the men’s example. Millionaires or paupers. Nothing in between.

Should’ve won last week’s game twice over. It’s smashed pie time.
-
Spot on. There seems to be a gulf between the older and newer sides. 7 of the current top 8 are inaugural clubs. The exception is North, funnily enough.

Go Dees ?

Looks like the “if you can’t dispose of the ball legally just drop it, it’s all good” rule applies in AFLW as well,
-
We are noticeably cleaner than most other sides. Well structured behind the ball. Leading disposal getter in the league. Could be a real shot this year.

Not usually one to side with grammar nazis but that thread title is a complete train wreck.

“He’s had his first pre-season in a long, long time. He trains Monday to Friday which is great,” Cameron told Sportsday. “He’s living with Shane Mumford so you can make of that how you will, it’s been a really good thing though.“ ? Mumford and Hogan shacking up together. What could possibly go wrong?

Well that’s one way of figuring out how we’re going to fit Brown, Weid, Jackson and T Mac into the side. Just take out two of them with injury. The Melbourne method. It’s clearly a kick in the crotch, although M Brown is a better player than some will acknowledge. I even happier now that we gave him another year. Hell, I have more faith in him than T Mac who has been riding the coattails of a freak season where he took the second defender every week. I thought my days of T Mac induced hernias were pretty much over but looks like the rollercoaster goes on. If he can at least play within his limitations then that will be a good start. Regardless of T Mac, there is still enough firepower to kick winning scores more often than not. But it will require a step up from a number of players.

I agree with that in relation to recreational drugs, although worth noting that the better player you are, the often better chances of emerging from “murky waters” with your career in tact. Look no further than Hodge as an example. Titus O’Reilly has written a book on the subject called A Sporting Chance, where he examines everyone from famous footballers to racing identities and how they have essentially gotten away with their misdeeds due in no small part to how talented they were on the sporting field. The number of examples he provides forms quite the body of evidence. Put simply, I don’t think Patton will get shown the same sympathy as the Warnes and Careys of the world.

The Hawks acquired Scully for a future fourth round pick. “Disastrous”? Hardly. They got him for basically nothing. His 2018 season alone made him a worthwhile get. Goes without saying that hopefully he sorts out the personal stuff. Anyone conflating football and personal needs to take a chill pill.

Gawn (C), Viney (VC), May, Trac Four players is enough, although I wouldn’t object to Salem as the fifth. It’s time for those in his age bracket to take the reigns. Oliver is another year away from inclusion in terms of maturity and Lever needs to concentrate solely on getting back to his best.
-
Found it interesting the article says Oliver will take the mantle. As good as Clarry is, Petracca seems the more likely one to take the mantle.
-
That Rivers for AA prediction in the Foxsports article is very left field. If the authors don’t have a soft spot for Melbourne then clearly young Trent gained more attention from the neutrals last year than I thought.

Back again for another year of predicting our footy fortunes or lack thereof. Due to popular demand, there is now a template! Points will be allocated to determine a winner with 1 point for each correct answer unless otherwise indicated. I’ve included an 'Other MFC predictions' field for those who want to go off road with their prognostications. Only non-obvious predictions will earn a point. Predicting Oliver to have more than 15 possessions against North will not earn a point. Happy ball gazing.
