Gotta say King makes a pretty solid case. He’s always been shifted forward towards the end of the game or once the result has been determined. I could be mistaken but I can’t recall it happening when trying to build an early lead.. It would be a brave move on Goodwin’s part to play him forward in the percentages King is talking about. There are some nice lines in that article btw, including turning the goal square into “Red’s square”, but I think my favourite would have to be “..it’s just impossible to stop Clayton winning the football”.

His interview on the club podcast is a cracker. Terrific down to earth fella.
-
Really hope JKH plays well.
-
Right you are.

JFK lol

JKH for me. He’s earned a shot. Big stakes for him though. If he fails I doubt we’d see him in the jumper again.
-
Huge bummer if true. For him and the side. We need the Hunt of last season back.
-
Cheers daz. Did you spot McKenna, and if so, what does he look like? Nah jokes. Did Hoges look in good touch? We need the big fella up and about if we’re going to finish inside the 8. Much sign of fatigue from the trip to the red centre?

I hate nitpicking what players say publicly but that stood out to me as well. The tone of his answer was sometimes you have to accept that you got beaten on the day. It was a shrug of the shoulders type of response. I wasn’t a fan and I’d hope if Jonesy watched it back he would word it differently. I don’t want acceptance of any loss by the players, least of all a loss where we were the dominant side from a statistical point of view.
-
They definitely left out some of his best handballs in that highlights package. Although you’d need a good ten minutes to do him justice.
-
That wasn’t listed other than Jonesy hosting On the Couch tonight along with Dangerfield and Phil Davis.

Those who are subscribed to Fox Footy will know that this week is “Player Takeover” round where the players essentially host and/or strongly feature in the regular programs such as On the Couch and AFL360. It’s a gimmick concept but one thing I noticed when the list of players that will feature this week was shown. Melbourne has by far the highest representation of players: Gawn, Jones, Lewis, Oliver and Hogan. Five in total. The next highest was three players and from there it was either two or one player from the remaining clubs. It wasn’t that long ago that Jones would’ve been the only viable candidate for an exercise like this. The wheel is definitely turning.

We need to start getting in the ear of these young dejected Carlton supporters. If you see a sad looking kid wearing a Carlton scarf, hand him a finals pamphlet and ask him if he’s discovered Gawny yet.
-
I’m leaning towards Vince but Baker is definitely tempting against a young Dogs side with the width of the ground to exploit. I’d be happy with either but would go with Vince personally.
-
He genuinely looked a class above in the wet. I was disappointed with his last couple of AFL outings but I’d like to see if his latest run of form can translate. I think he’s earned that opportunity anyway There are others I’d have looked at first in terms of delistings at the end of the year, but one of them just got an extension.

3 goals against the Kangaroos isn’t a significant impact? How stupidly high is the bar you’re setting? Again. Judge him on what he does, not what you know he’s capable of. He played his role last night. You can’t dispute that. We’re not going to agree so let’s leave it there.
-
The past? As in last season when he kicked 42 goals? Or is the past the 9 goals he kicked in the first five rounds before being dropped? I don’t share your fear ?
-
Baker hasn’t been playing forward as far as I know so you’d be asking him to play a role he isn’t prepared for. The stats say otherwise re Spargo. Need to judge Garlett on what he does, not on what you know he can do. He’s obviously capable of better, but under conditions that were trying for all the forwards, he played his role.
-
Who are you replacing him with? Were you happier with Spargo’s output?
-
So what more did you want to see from him in a first game back at AFL level? And if you’re dropping him back to Casey, who are you replacing him with?
-
What more were you wanting to see exactly? He provided the forward pressure we were lacking with 6 tackles and kicked an opportunist goal. It would’ve been two goals if not for an incorrect overturn on video review. We are a more dangerous side with Garlett in the forwardline.

6. Oliver 5. Brayshaw 4. Salem 3. Fritsch 2. Gawn 1. Petracca HM: Stretch, Harmes

All the players made mention of how slippery the ball was out there. On another night Hogan would’ve clunked another four or five that he dropped. Frost and Jeffy were both welcome returns and are best 22 right now. Frost coming in should’ve happened weeks ago but spilt milk. Andy or someone else mentioned in the game day thread that Fritzel is now one of our best players and it’s hard to disagree. The kid is just a skilled, smart footballer. An amazing pickup. Some of the clearance work particularly out of the middle was a joy to watch. Some very nice chemistry between Gawn and the young mids. Goal kicking practice wouldn’t go astray. When we have momentum we need to capitalise better than we did. But under the conditions, in the end, it was a solid win and the season remains alive.

Oliver all class.

Nibbler doesn’t deserve to hold his spot on this form.
