  1. Yes it is irrelevant because it's not a squad of ten, it's a squad of forty. He is competing against the likes of Ellis and Liberatore., not just Ablett and Selwood. It's not reality. If Ellis is a better midfielder or has had a better year than Jones I'll eat my hat.
  2. I'll be surprised if he doesn't win it. Tyson the only other one with half a sniff. Jones has been clearly the best player this year. Again.
  3. Who said he is on that level? Completely irrelevant to a discussion about whether he should make the squad of FORTY. Is Ellis a great? Is Ward a great? His omission doesn't surprise me so it doesn't actually bother me as much as hearing our own supporters stil downplay his ability because of the jumper he wears. If he isn't good enough to make the squad, what more outside of moving mountains does Jonesy need to do?
  4. Finds the footy, good in traffic, makes smart decisions, with excellent skills. What a dud. It's gobsmacking that people could still underrate this bloke. The only string he needs to add to his bow is goals, though he's usually too busy doing work all over the ground and getting to every contest. He's not a superstar, but he's a rolled gold A grader who absolutely, unequivocally, should've been in the squad of 40.
  5. I hear ya. It's ruddy torture supporting this club.
  6. Oh please. What a load of garbage. I thought people stopped trotting that line out 2 years ago. Apparently not.
  7. Just saw the panel had Bartlett, Richo and Frawley on it. What a shock that Ellis gets a nod ahead of Jones.
  8. Bulldust. He had a fantastic season. This oversight doesn't change that one iota.
  9. Brandon Ellis for a start. Statistically he beats him on pretty much every front. I think the guy who is 2nd in the league for disposals and 3rd in the league for clearances deserved a spot in the top 40.
  10. Well articulated.
  11. What option does Roos have after it goes public? Honestly? "Oh yeah, it was a great laugh eh?" This is what happens when stuff like this surfaces. It snowballs. Not being offended to the core by a player dressing up as Rolf Harris is not the same as condoning the actions of which he has been convicted.
  12. Collingwood star Dane Swan sets 2014 as his retirement date This is where his mind was at two years ago. i.e. retiring at the end of this season. If there is anything left in the tank for Swanny, it ain't much.
  13. lol..sounds about right.
  14. The only thing I'd add is that 10 votes is actually a "good" game, not necessarily a "pass" game. A player may poll a single vote from 5 different people which would in most people's reckoning constitute a pass, but if they didn't accumulate 10 votes it wasn't added to that figure of "good" games. But your point is still valid.
  15. So you've never seen an episode of South Park. Or Family Guy. We're not talking underground stuff here. Humour should never be dissected to this extent.
  16. And yet Jamar is a "vastly superior ruckman" according to those who amazingly still choose to defend us letting him go. Sometimes I think the pain of yet another horrible decision is too much to bear so they choose to continue defending it. It's either that or stubbornness because this was, quite clearly, a mistake. But good luck to him all the same.
  17. Another D. The second half was incredibly deflating and I can only hope that fatigue played a big part. Brisbane and GWS were every bit as bad as Neeld performances, and those are memories that didn't need resurfacing. Certainly there.were areas of promise, and on an individual level, Dom Tyson may well be the greatest piece of recruiting the club has done in over a decade.
  18. Any victims would never have been alerted to it had they not posted it on Instagram and the media picked up on it and insisted upon the outbreak of moral outrage because, shock horror, footy players are dressing up as something distasteful. This was their greatest mistake. Not the dressing up in the first place. Perhaps those who are In a stampede to get offended at something like this have a different exposure to the world of comedy. There is a hell of a lot worse than this out there. It doesn't make it funny. But it also doesn't make it off limits.
  19. AFL House: where logic dies. Port have every right to be disgusted with the decision.
  20. For heaven's sake. If anything they are taking the [censored] out of Harris. Anyone would think they wore a sign reading "I love peadophiles". If they get anything more than a quiet word in the ear, it's massive overkill.
  21. As a precursor to the official reveal, below are the final standings of my own tally of the votes this year. I have used a different system to the site's sample of 3 voters, and have instead taken a wider sample of 10 voters to provide as a comparison. This isn't to say this system is better or worse, but my own view is that a sample of 3 is not big enough so I did this for my own interest and am sharing in case others wish to get another perspective. Each week there are 210 votes available (10 x 6,5,4,3,2,1). Included in brackets are the number of games in which the player polled reasonably well (the benchmark for which I set at 10 votes or more), the number of games played, and the time spent on ground. Winners are: N Jones - 691 (17 - 22 - 87.4%) Tyson- 525 (13 - 22 - 77.6%) Dunn - 368 (10 - 22 - 96.3%) Jetta - 297 (9 - 16 - 85.1%) Vince - 295 (9 - 22 - 83.2%) Viney - 293 (9 - 19 - 77.6%) Cross - 291 (12 - 17 - 87.6%) Howe - 217 (7 - 22 - 92.6%) Pedersen - 217 (6 - 19 - 87.8%) McDonald - 197 (6 - 21 - 93.5%) Jamar - 167 (5 - 17 - 82.6%) Dawes - 149 (4 - 18 - 89.7%) Frawley - 127 (5 - 21 - 91.3%) Watts - 125 (5 - 22 - 85.7%) M Jones - 117 (2 - 20 - 80.6%) Gawn - 90 (2 - 9 - 71.7%) Kent - 87 (3 - 13 - 72.2%) Grimes - 86 (3 - 18 - 88.3%) Bail - 58 (3 - 21 - 84.1%) Riley - 49 (1 - 9 - 48.9%) Kennedy-Harris - 33 (2 - 14 - 58.1%) Garland - 26 (1 - 14 – 88.6%) Spencer - 23 (1 - 5 - 81.6%) Georgiou - 20 (1 - 7 - 82.9%) McKenzie - 16 (0 - 8 - 84.4%) Michie - 12 (1 - 4 - 78.5%)) Fitzpatrick - 11 (1 - 5 - 67.8%) Terlich - 11 (0 - 15 - 77.3%) Byrnes - 10 (1 - 6 - 69.2%) Toumpas - 9 (0 - 4 - 66.8%) Trengove - 3 (0 - 2 - 91.0%) Salem - 3 (0 - 12 – 55.2%) Barry (5), Evans (3), Tapscott (3), Blease (2), Nicholson (1) Top 10 most consistent: N Jones - 77.27% (17 - 22 - 87.4%) Cross - 70.59% (12 - 17 - 87.6%) Tyson - 59.09% (13 - 22 - 77.6%) Jetta - 56.25% (9 - 16 - 85.1%) Viney - 47.37% (9 - 19 - 77.6%) Dunn - 45.45%(10 - 22 - 96.3%) Vince - 40.90% (9 - 22 - 83.2%) Howe - 31.81% (7 - 22 - 92.6%) Pedersen - 31.58% (6 - 19 - 87.8%) Jamar - 29.41% (5 - 17 - 82.6%) Best 5 per round: Rd 1 (St K): Watts, N Jones, Dunn, Tyson, Vince Rd 2 (WC) N Jones, Dunn, Tyson, Cross, Frawley Rd 3 (GWS): Tyson, Pedersen, Howe, McDonald, Cross Rd 4 (Carl): N Jones, Frawley, Grimes, Spencer, Bail Rd 5 (GC): N Jones, Viney, Dawes, Frawley, Cross Rd 6 (Syd): Dunn, Pedersen, M Jones, N Jones, Vince Rd 7 (Adel): Dawes, Viney, Tyson, JKH, Vince/Jamar/Jetta Rd 8 (WB): Tyson, Jamar, Cross, Howe, Viney Rd 9 (Rich): N Jones, Pedersen, Tyson, Viney, Howe Rd 10 (Bye) Rd 11 (Port): Dunn, Tyson/Pedersen, Jetta, N Jones, Cross Rd 12 (Coll): Dunn/N Jones, Pedersen, Vince, Jetta, Cross Rd 13 (Ess): Dunn, N Jones, Kent, Jetta, Grimes Rd 14 (Nth): Vince, Cross, Dawes, Dunn, Watts Rd 15 (WB): Jamar, Howe, Viney, Grimes, Vince Rd 16 (Fre): McDonald, M Jones, N Jones, Viney, Kent Rd 17 (Geel): Viney, Riley, Howe, Pedersen, McDonald Rd 18 (Port): Tyson, Jetta, N Jones, Jamar, Frawley Rd 19 (Bris): Howe, McDonald, Jetta, N Jones, Tyson Rd 20 (Haw): Jetta, Gawn, Tyson, Howe, Jamar Rd 21 (GWS): N Jones, Jetta, Tyson, Gawn, Dunn Rd 22 (WC): N Jones, Vince, Cross, Bail, Tyson Rd 23 (Nth): Tyson, Vince, Kent, McDonald, N Jones
  22. You just have to laugh at the absurdity of Burgan's articles on the club website. They have all the credit of opinion pieces under a totalitarian regime. "Monday analysis: first chapter over" is the title. The "analysis" is literally a few lines stating that progress has been made but there is a long way to go, and the rest is filled with Roos quotes. But I guess you know what you're going to get so maybe I'm the silly one for bothering to read them.
  23. HH only deals in absolute certainties.
  24. A fairly comfortable loss against North's B team who barely looked like they cared. An abysmal third quarter which ended up being the difference. The basic skill errors just defy belief some of the time. Clean those up and we close that final margin and then some. Several players who should be depth at the absolute best, and until they are we're going nowhere. Watts did an alright job of placing himself in the shop window with a couple of nice passages of play. Hopefully his suitors shut their eyes when he refused to put his head over the ball and jogged behind opponents.
