Well done Jonesy. Thoroughly deserved. What a champ. Jetta a bit unlucky to miss out but can't really argue with that top five.
-
I really liked the glimpses I saw of him. Not sure why he hasn't been given opportunities this season but would be worth a punt imo.
-
Bail has tried hard but he should not be within cooee of the top ten for the season. 1. N Jones 2. Tyson 3. Dunn 4. Vince 5. Jetta 6. Cross 7. Viney 8. Howe 9. McDonald 10. Pedersen
-
Should not matter in my view. Jetta had far more impact than Watts did, even playing 6 less games. Roos himself stated that Jetta was "arguably our best player this season". He'll finish top 10 if there is any sense, and really should be finishing top 5. To be fair to Burgs, he did say Jetta and T Mac were possibly in the mix between 6-12.

Same. As much as I love Mitch, if he signs for another club, you better believe I'll be bitter.
-
LOOK AT THE AVERAGE NOT THE TOTAL!!!! HE IS ONLY RANKED SIXTH!!!! *blood vessel popping*
-
But that's a different circumstance to the one we're discussing. In the one we're discussing, taking Jones' average as opposed to his overall total results in a marginal drop in the rankings.
-
Why? He drops to 9th for disposals and 10th for clearances. And? It still places him in the top 10 in the league. Greene only played 15 games but averaged more. It's also about getting on the field, which Jones did every week.

Unofficial Demonland Player of the Year - Final Tally
P-man replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
Matt Burgan's predictions - http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2014-09-02/jones-to-win-his-third-bluey-in-a-row 1. N Jones 2. Tyson 3. Vince 4. Dunn 5. Howe 6. Cross 7. Frawley 8. Watts 9. Viney 10. Pedersen In the mix: 6-10. McDonald 6-12. Jetta Edge of 10. Grimes, M Jones, Bail, Dawes 10-15. Jamar His top six is reasonable, but from there it drifts into the slightly bizarre. -
I'm not throwing around any labels of a PC brigade. That was HH. It was dumb, no doubt, because it was done in the public eye. It warrants a talking to but I stand by a harsh punishment being overkill. If it was within the confines of a private environment, some would not bat an eyelid, some would chuckle, and perhaps some would be offended to the extent being shown in this thread. But the concept itself of dressing up as Rolf Harris, to me, is not offensive, and I don't apologise for that view. It's a dirty old man with ridiculous dress sense being lampooned. It's not condoning what he has done. It's highlighting that he is someone worthy of ridicule. There's my summary. One that wasn't captured in the "good summary" above.
-
lol..which part of that post presented the alternative view? You know what, I don't care. Good summary. There is clearly something wrong with anyone who wasn't deeply offended by a Rolf Harris costume. Close thread.
-
Sorry, but how is that a "good summary"? Because it only summarises one side of the argument? Okay. Yeah, good summary.
-
Pick 28 as well, btw.
-
No, not a surprise. Well deserved.

Although not all boats are bad. The arrival of the first fleet was the "defining moment in our history". The aboriginal leaders were a big fan of that one. Someone needs to surgically remove the man's foot from his mouth. It's amazing he can talk at all.Don't get me started on his "independent" review of the RET that he plans to scale back significantly or abolish altogether. Can't wait to see the back of him, not just as PM but in politics generally. His toxic influence has certainly left its mark.

2014 wasn't an enormous improvement on 2013. It was an improvement, so at least we're moving in the right direction. But you can't say there has been enormous or immense improvement with rankings such as: 18th for points scored 18th for inside 50s 17th for clearances 16th for contested possession 15th for tackles We've gone from diabolical to poor. That's an improvement.

His reddit Q&A suggests there's a bit more to Robbo than the d-head tag he seems to have picked up. http://www.reddit.com/r/AFL/comments/1keqff/i_am_mitch_robinson_from_the_carlton_football What is he actually guilty of in the end to warrant all the hatred in this thread? Calling us bruise free? He was right, we were. Getting into a dust up at the Big Day Out? Someone took a swing and he had the audacity of defending himself. Looking like a d-head in photos? Okay, he's guilty of that. The latest incident with Garlett is a poor one in terms of him not telling the club straight away, granted. He's no angel, granted. But I do think the reports on his behaviour get overblown, and in terms of ability, he'd be in our best 22. His kamikaze attack on the ball is exactly what our mob needs, among a list of other things. I'm not strongly in favour, but I'm also not totally closed off to the idea

An unfortunate sequence of posts.

Okay, last attempt. ThIs is the comment I responded to originally: Point me towards the part where you acknowledge players who "are not elite but are at the level above him". You list four "midfield greats" and are essentially dismissing Jones' omission on the basis that he is not at their level. That's why I've said it is an irrelevant point in the context of squad selection, because it is. He doesn't need to be at their level.
-
He'll definitely keep his spot. Whether he keeps his form remains to be seen, but my tip would be yes,
-
Precisely. So you get it, and your earlier comment about him not being at that elite level was irrelevant in the context of this discussion. Let's move on.
-
Petterd and Bennell are earning their pay. Both are currently best 22 at their respective clubs. But this is the only one that stings a bit. If Martin plays a full season of this calibre he will make All Australian, no question.
-
Yes, and that certain amount of spots caters beyond the absolute elite level you referred to. This is turning into head against a brick wall exercise. You understand the point.
-
Stu, you know the point being made. Your comment about him not being on the same level as the "midfield greats" as you termed them is irrelevant because he doesn't need to be in order to make the squad.
-
We're not talking about the final 22. We're talking about the squad of 40.
