Varcoe is a bit meh, but he did show some good signs at the tail end of the season. I think it's about as good as we can hope for. I'd be just as happy with a pick to give to Collingwood.

Reasonably put. And I know of his weaponry which is considerable. I love the way he plays. But picks 2 and 3 for a 25 year old is still overs and too big a gamble for mine. I would hope the club can do a better deal than that.

If we can get him great, but not for picks 2 AND 3. bb's suggestion of pick 2, a player and downgrade of picks, perhaps, but you don't give up pick 2 and 3 for one player who, as good as he is, doesn't yet have the consistency of an Ablett or a Pendlebury. No guarantee he'd stay here either. Could be treated as a stop over to Geelong in a couple of years, and then what? We'll have blown an opportunity to establish the core of a team for another great white hope. All moot anyway I feel.

No, definitely not. Danger will be 25 next season. Coughing up picks 2 AND 3 would be reckless in the extreme. Those picks are hugely important in establishing a team for sustained success. They can net us 3 or 4 high quality players. The club won't be that silly. I hope.

I absolutely agree that he has handled his impending departure poorly with the "waiting to see improvement" public line. It is a really poor look for a supposed leader, but I accredit it more to Chip's lack of grey matter. In saying that, I don't blame Chip for where the club is at, nor do I begrudge him wanting to leave after eight years of dross. I can't remember his exact win loss record but it is as bad as any I've ever seen. Eight years is a long enough shift. He's done his time, and for the large part, he's done it dutifully. If he doesn't feel that finals and success can be achieved here, then he is entitled to go. Hopefully it will be a decision he will rue.
