  1. vandenBerg has a superb build for a mid. he's tough and moves well. But on today's game I just thought he needs a few more games at Casey. I think he can cement a spot in the seniors,in time. But lets see some of these players string a few good games together and make them earn a callup. I might be calling this a bit early, but I rate him up there with Kent. As they both have a bit a flair and mongrel in them. On the other side of the coin, without mentioning names, it becomes a case of we get desperate.
  2. I agree, every time he came off, his face was red,he was sucking the water bottle big time. That to me showed he giving it everything he had. If we got exicted about Hoges, get excited about this kid. I just hope they dont rush him, a dozen or so games with casey will do him good to adjust to the tempo and building his stamia.
  3. I leave to KC etc to do a match review, as I had to leave at 1/2 time. vandenBerg did some nice things, but not enough to warrant a call up to the seniors just yet. Should get off the rookie list though. Vince looked a bit rusty, but will be better for the run. Riley was in and out, didn't do enough. Kent also looked like he badly needed the run, even a bit out of touch still looks the goods. Mitchie was in and under no sure about him atm. JHK was on a wing, and kicked a nice goal when he drifted into the forward line, again he needs to do more. King, has a nice leap. Good kick. work in progress. Casey were looking good up until 1/2 time. I thought they looked likely winners. by the sounds of it, they run out of legs. Brayshaw? probably get delisted or traded. nah just joking about Gus, looks the goods, a cut above the rest.
  4. Fitzy was playing ok at fullback. But casey were relying on their midfielders to score. They had no real target up forward. But if you are in front, don't know why their decided on that move. Perhaps they wanted to see if Fitzpatick would provide that target they were missing.
  5. oops perhaps I should have stayed. Casey were doing alright when I had to leave.
  6. Jeez mate, you left it a bit late. Jump in the Cordner league for the moment. I'll look into it as all the comp leagues are full. Bad news is I can no longer get you in, as I cant remove anyone now.so its the Cordner league, sorry mate.
  7. Many of us thought the Labour Day fiasco was a missed opportunity to take advantage of a perfect day to put the MFC brand out there when so many had the day off. I didn't buy in on the cost it would have been to do a 'mini' gala day for its supporters, that just sounded like a cop out, when long term it would pay off ten fold. It would have been a perfect lead-in to the Family day at Luna Park.Lets hope they take the negative and learn from the outpouring of complaints and suggestions from their supporters and learn to do it better. We move on, they copped their fair whack at the time, rightly so. But its now in the past. To be fair, lets NOT forget all the good things they do, some we never hear about. Its not all bad, we DO acknowledge the MFC when we hear a feel-good story. I recall the little girl they sent Jack Watts a Dollar? to re-sign, then she got to meet her hero. The lttile boy, who's dad called the club and the Nat Jones and a few players, went out of their way to give him the best birthday he had ever had. The father was god-smacked. Then their was American Demon? who signed up and was given more they he ever expected. When the supporters do speak up they listen, if we fail to bring it to the clubs attention that we expect better, how will they know where in what areas they need to lift their game. I think the PR Dept got the message. The Moral is: We are passionate about our club, as passionate supportrs that passion flowed out. But they can be forgiven, and rightly so. m'kaay and family and going to have a couple of happy little vegemites tonight. Well done MFC!
  8. I will post all the coaches with confirmed / starting leagues over the weekend. Welcome to all the new players for 2015. And welcome back to coaches that will be going around once again. Had a few drop out, but good to see so many coaches returning in 2015. If the 2014 scores are a guide, there should be some tough battles in all 3 leagues. For all the non demonlanders who read the threads, but havent signed up (YET) a league for all. But it may convince a few SC Demon supporters to be a part of the fun in 2016. Cordner League (Div 4) League Code = 733228
  9. Anyone interested in joining the SC comp the R.Barassi league has approx 8 vacant spots left. Everyone has had enough time to activate their league codes that have been sent out. The Barassi League is now full. All 3 leagues have now been filled. Dont forget we also have a Group league, open to anyone to join, compare your SC score with everyone else in the Group league. Melbourne Demons is the name of the "Group League" 1. If you have ALREADY REGISTERED for the The Herald Sun Nissan SuperCoach Competition, simply click the following link (you may need to login): http://supercoach.he...oup_code=978745 (On successful registration, you'll automatically be added to this Group. Simply look for the "GROUPS" tab in the nav of your Leagues page).
  10. Welcome to the comp Pates. also require the name of your team. Good luck
  11. You both need to check your PMs / emails for the league code.
  12. And your thoughts on Fitzpatrick's game? One on my "needs to show a lot more" list this year. Played at fullback, I was very pleased to see him hold some contested marks. I thought his game was good today. Still needs to improve his work rate a bit more. But one of our better players. Pedo lifted in the last qtr, to help narrow the margin. Hardly sighted before that. I thought pencil went alright, didnt set the game on fire, but was servicable. Mitchie also showed a bit in the last qtr, but again, needs to work harder for an entire game. Uninspiring game, but it had its moments. Port are always hard to beat, Casey went down fighting. Seen worse than todays effort.
  13. This will be the last weekend I will be taking requests to join the comp. Everyone that requested to join up has been sent their leagues codes, a handful haven't responded. Their are nine spots available in the Barassi league. As of Monday the 23rd, I will make the league code public as a 1st in basis.
  14. I have just resigned myself to expect little, and hope for a lot.
  15. Welcome back, as the reigning 2014 GF winner. Check your PM the league code and join your league before the 27th Mar.
  16. Yes, still spots available. Just need your SC team name, then I will PM your league code.
  17. M.I.A. This bloke still around? he has diappeared off the radar. No27 where are you?
  18. Thanks, amended your team name.
  19. Welcome back gOLLy. Check your PM for your league code. The answer to your question is, I don't have you listed in any of the the 2014 DL Comp leagues. I have you listed as playing in 2012, but then went missing. Like most of us you will have to fight your way up the rankings. I hope that clears up your query.
  20. Yes still have a few holes to fill. Are you still using the same team name of 'falooped'? Check your PM for your league code. Good luck in your league.
  21. Just a quick reminder, this week is the last week to join your designated league. Everyone has been sent a league code, that requested to join the comp. Next weekend the leagues that have a few places vacant will be made available for 'outsiders' (non DL members) to join to fill. Last chance, to request to join a league. *Nudge* your PM failed, I could not PM your league code.
  22. I feel for all those that made the effort to get to Goschs only to leave disappointed. Promoting the club is just another area where we need to lift our game. Its not rocket science. On a public holiday where Melbourne promotes one of its biggest attractions of the year. People travel from interstate, visitors from overseas all wandering around enjoying the day. Yet we (MFC) sit on our hands and leave a perfect opportunity to entice potential new members go begging. Too make the club bigger, we have to think big. WELCOME to MELBOURNE the Home of the Melbourne Football Club. 1: Place posters around to inform everyone after the parade, see a AFL football team go through its paces, meet the players 2: Hand out leaflets at various points to make people aware, where they will be training. 3: Have a couple BBQ's setup with hamburgers, snags, right next to both, have a membership tent. Injured players helping and giveouts for the kids. 4: After training interact with the players, kids love this. As for penatly rates, min 4 hrs pay for a few hours work, those that gave up a few hours, could have get off work early the next day.If they signed up a couple of hundred or least hand out the details for all membership packages, then it was worth it, but also might just pay in the long term.if quoted they got a reference they attented the public day training session, they get a discount or something extra (merchanise). At worst it makes people aware of the MFC, Some may not know we even exist, but they would if we put it out there. Certainly would go a long way to offset the wages for a handful of the staff. And so much more could be done, but oh no, its a public holiday stuff that. Our PR division needs to have a good hard look at itself. One can only hope, today might be a wakeup call, that we can /could do it much better. We should be going hard at every chance we get.
  23. That was the last time we lifted the Premiership cup. 50 plus years later, we wait for another. One could blame being complacent or perhaps after the success of the 50's, it was just expected to keep rolling along. You could point the finger at a lot of things that are to blame for a lack of success since 1964. Many great players have been and gone since then. 1987 - 88 might have been seen as our best chance to add another cup. But the planets didn't align. There is still a lot to be proud of, many players that played in those premierships were out and out champions. Names we have heard mentioned and praised but we never had the privilege of seeing them play in the red and blue. One thing that stands out for me, apart from having the talent to begin with, the 2 most successful coaches, demanded discipline and teamwork, hard work and ruthfullness, one only has to reflect back to the winning margins in some of those wins, we just didn't win, we made a statement. It is ok to reflect back, and admire, and read our past victories, but it's well overdue we stood up as a club and demand nothing less than being the most respected and feared club / team in the AFL. We all follow the Melbourne footy club now for various reasons,12 flags is more than most clubs, we have all had our heroes along the way. 12 Premierships is a good start to love this club, and there are many many more reasons why we do. I hope those that read how we won those 12 Premierships got an small insight in how mighty this proud club achieved their success. For me, some absolute legends have played for the red and blue, we are doing them all a disservice if we don't demand to be the best.
  24. The last and perhaps the most memorable? for a number of reasons. 1964 Grand Final Results Saturday, 19th September , M.C.G MELBOURNE 2.6 5.7 7.10 8.16 (64) COLLINGWOOD 2.5 5.9 5.11 8.12 (60) Umpire: Brophy Attendance: 102,469 MELBOURNE B: Crompton, Massey, R. Rose, Bone Res.: Urquhart, Turner Goals: Gabelich 2, Waters 2, Bone, Dalton, Steer, Tuddenham. Best: Hill, Steer, Bone, Potter, Henderson, Dalton COACH - Bob Rose This was the last, and undoubtedly the most memorable, of all the Grand Final encounters between Melbourne and Collingwood. The two sides finished first and second respectively at the end of the home and away season, and the rivalry which had dominated the decade was set to continue. With Hassa Mann ensuring Melbourne?s place in the finals with a last minute winning goal in the second last match, the side was set for its eleventh consecutive finals series. An 89-point win over Collingwood in the second semi-final set Melbourne in the box seat for Grand Final Day. The Magpies led by two points at the long break, but a sluggish third term saw Melbourne leading by eleven points at the last change. So it came down to a last gasp effort from both sides in the final term. First, Collingwood?s Ray Gabelich cemented himself in football folklore with a 50 metre run and goal that put the Magpies ahead by two points. But then Melbourne back pocket Neil Crompton went one better, following his man up the ground and kicking the goal that won Melbourne its twelfth VFL flag.
