Good Pickup! One of the same. Of course Sheedy will say he was born and bred in NSW. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_C._McClelland

I have the arcticle kicking around here somewhere, rather than pull the house apart, I'll have to rely on my 'not as good as it used to be' memory. Now this involved Richards, not Bobby Rose. 100% sure on that. Although I do vaguely remember a Rose incident. You;ll will have to visulise this, so get that imagination going. The article was very well written so I hope I can get close. If iirc it was written by Harry Beitzel for Inside Football? Apologies if not word for word, but here goes, as I remember it. The MCG, Melb V Coll, 1956 or 58?? somewhere around there. Back when the 2 biggest clubs were the Dees and the filth. As usual the ground was packed to the rafters. Home and Away game. To set the picture, 10 of thousands of feral pies supporters, along with just as many passionate Dee supporters. Both teams hated each other as did the supporters (not much as changed) Noel McMahen well known for being a tough, ruthless player.Brick walls wouldnt hold him back. Lou Richards, cheeky, cunning and known to mouth off (whence Louie the Lip), but a bloody good footballer. Umpire = Harry Bietzel Its a close game, typical Melb V Coll game of the era. Richards gathers the ball on Melbourne's 1/2 forward line.Richards ducks and weaves around a few Melb players, weaving out of a pack. McMahen spots Richards from half back, his eyes light up. Like a steam train, comes roaring in from the backline, with Lou firmly in his sights. Lou not knowing McMahen has penciled in for the coroner, weaves out, and into the clear. Suddendly Richards looks up and sees McMahen is about to send him into the next century. So Richards sensing the gravity of it all, throws the ball away and hits the ground, a split second before the McMahen express nails him. From over the fence its seems to all and sundry, McMahen has just flattened a Collingwood hero, bottles, and heaps of abuse and other obstacles come hurtling over the fence Louie is down for the count. Pies supporters are now going ballistic. Now the crowd doesnt know this, but McMahen , hadnt touched him. and instead of stomping on the now motionless Louie, (being the 'gentleman' than he was) he steps over the corpse, but from a distance it looked he had just run through him. Spot fires all over the ground start up. players pushing and wrestling, Supporters threathening to jump the fence.Beitzel being the sole umpire (only 1 ump back then) Looks around, looking like an all in brawl is about to breakout. Wonders he next move, so he stands over a montionless Lou Richards, as says. "For christs sake Louie, GET UP!. He didnt touch you!" Amongst the noise, a cheeky little voice comes back that could be almost heard all over the ground, says to Harry... with a cheeky grin ,says "But gee Harry, he didnt miss me by much."

What do you mean, probably??? You mean to say you werent there? Couldn't you get a ticket?

Funny thing is I thought exacly the same .... crap umpire. I can just hear it now, and todays umpire is crap. Fitzroy supporters ..... "Yeah you can say that again!"

The 1st of 12: 1900 Grand Final Results Saturday, September 22, East Melbourne CG. MELBOURNE 2.3 2.5 4.8 4.10 (34) FITZROY 1.4 2.7 2.7 3.12 (30) Umpire: Crapp Crowd: 20,181 MELBOURNE B: M. Cumberland, F. McGuinness Goals: Geddes, Leith, Ryan, Wardill. Best: Cumberland, Langley, McGuiness, Moodie, Purse, Wardill. COACH - Dirk Wardil (as captain) FITZROY B: H. McEwen, G. Moriarty, E. Jenkins HB: A. Sharpe, A. Sloan (Capt), P. Hickey C: E. Drohan, H.J. Clarke, K. Robinson HF: T. Beauchamp, A. McDougall, L. Baker F: P. Descrimes, G. Brosnan, C. Kiernan RUCK: M. Grace, W. Potter, W. McSpeerin Goals: Grace 2, Barker. Best: Clarke, Drohan, Grace, Hickey, Moniarty, Robinson. COACH - Alex Sloan (as captain) MELBOURNE'S first premiership win probably was one of the most fortunate in league history as the Redlegs finished a modest sixth at the completion of the home-and-away season. However, the league operated a most unusual finals system at that time, with the eight clubs drawn into two groups. Melbourne, after finishing sixth, was grouped with the teams, which finished second, fourth and eighth for the right to challenge for the flag. Melbourne, after an ordinary season, found form at the right time and won its section, therefore winning the right to challenge the winner of the other group - Essendon. But, because Fitzroy had topped the ladder, the Maroons had the right to challenge the winner of the Melbourne-Essendon match in a grand final. Fitzroy defeated Essendon and became favorites for the flag. The Redlegs suffered a setback even before play when wingers Arthur Sowden and Eric Gardner were ruled unfit. Fitzroy, on the other hand, was almost at full strength for the big match, played in near-perfect conditions. Melbourne attacked furiously in the opening minutes and it became obvious very early that the Maroons were in for a torrid time. Melbourne, after an even first half, took control in the third quarter and led by 13 points at the final break. Fitzroy had the wind in the final term, but the Melbourne defence held firm. In fact, Melbourne defenders "Henry" Parkin and Jack Purse repelled countless Fitzroy thrusts to help the Redlegs achieve a shock four-point win over the reigning premier.

D.Williams was one of my favs along with T.Anderson. Williams dash and racking drop kicks from half back, Anderson for his high marking and reliable as they come. I read a very funny story about McMahen that invloved one Louie 'the lip' Richards. It nearly caused a riot at the MCG.

Nah just me looking for 'signs' I wish I could confirm, what a difference he would make. I just had a feeling we were so close to getting him over the line for this year. I could be way off the mark, but I had gut feeling. But now a lot can happen this year. Cats pushing up his market value? Goodwin might be the key to this, if Dangermouse remains unsigned.

Training - Monday 19th January, 2015 at Maroochydore
DeeVoted replied to Spin-it-to-Goodwin-it's topic in Melbourne Demons
Many thanks for all those that took the time and made the effort to keep all the training reports coming in. I think a few of us realise now what its like not being there and have to rely on others interstate for info. well done. Sounds like the boys have their heads down and bums up. Now looking forward to seeing it delivered in battle. I'm trying to keep the lid on it, but I have to admit, cant wait to get under way. I like what I am hearing. -
Its a done deal. Number 32 has been put on hold for someone special in 2016.

Thx mate. Welcome back for another year. To the above posts wondering if there is room for more (new players) NO probs, I'll get you into a league somewhere. Any new players wishing to join in, post your team name and you will be notified what league you will be playing in as soon as I crunch the confirmations. Stiil a few yet to confirm, its not too far from opening for 2015. Just check your name has confirmed, see the 1st page of this thread. Thx. I still have a bit of work organising all this, so asap for those confirmations.

haha I had my house on that happening. goes back to demons11 (2011)

Good to see most coaches returning. We will give Real Dream Team a crack for this year, I doubt AFL Fantasy will be up to speed for 2015. It was a bit of disaster last year. IF interest remains for this year, and going into 2016, a review / vote might be the way to go for preferences for 2016. I had real probs staying online, amongst a heap of other issues, then couldnt get everyone's final score tally for the year. It was a nightmare. All the league names shall remain the same name as last year. I'll stick with them being named after the 3 x MFC membership packages. Unless someone has a better idea for the league names. The web sites for SC and DT dont open for a few more weeks. But I still need confirmations coming in, asap. I (we?) have to organise the numbers to make up the league(s). so the sooner we can....... guys, post your confirmation or interest to join in ,if you are not in a league yet. I'll keep updating the confirmations for everyone, so keep checking the 1st page, to make sure you havent been overlooked. Thx guys and gals?

If anyone would like to join a league and not have to worry about finding a good comp to join, now is the time to do it. Leaving it until the day before the comp begins doesnt mean you will get into our comp league. Starting a new league for just 3 players isnt worth the trouble, leaving you to your own devices. If we know beforehand who wants to join, we can set arrange the Leagues to accomodate everyone. The DT leagues are tiered meaning you should be in a league suited to your ability or the amount of time you want to spend to play for sheep stations. Best of all, you play against fellow Demon supporters and not some random in a public league. If you have been 'lurking' around Demonland, and have yet to signup, do it now, gives you the option of join the SC or DT comp Leagues. As for existing coaches for 2015. it makes the job a lot easlier to finalise the leagues if you can CONFIRM asap. Thx to everyone who has done so already, but still a fair number to confirm PS: Dont forget, if you change your team name from 2014, could you post your new team name, New players : I require the name of your team. Thx to all.

I have you down to join a League. When the time comes a code for your league will be sent via Personal Messenger. I suggest everyone, not just new members. but everyone be familiar with using and checking your Pm's as your league code will be sent to your PM.

Extract from a facebook page: from a 8yr young girl Dear Santa Claus, I hope you are not too cold living at the norf poll. I just wanted you to now i have been a good girl. I got good grades at my primary school this year. I am riting this letter to you and I hope this time you answer me! Last christmas I politely requested you deliver me a new bike. 2 of the kids in the street where I live (you do remember whereI live, rite?) got theres, I guess you ran out of new bikes for girls that had been good all year. This year I don't want a bike, The tooth fairy came twice this year, so I am saving up to buy my own.My request this christmas is for my dad. Every football season I see him crying in his room. It makes me feel sad, my mum gets upset when she comes back from shopping or work and finds the new Tv all smashed up. When the Tv is all smashed up then I cant watch Shaun the Sheep. So this christmas could you make sure the Demons win a lot of games, it would make my dad happier, and my mum would not yell at him all the time cause he baracks for a (as my mum says) a [censored] football team. yours truly julie PS: if you dont deliver this time, you can shove your christmas up your bottom. PPS: Sorry you cant email me, but our computer is not working, its been all busted up when the Demons lost and it went flying out the window.

Welcome to the comp.I have you marked down to join a league. For anyone wondering, there is plenty of room to join the comp leagues. This applies to past and new players.
-
The comp is moving to Real Dream Team for 2015. (Unless there is an uproar from existing coaches.) I plan to setup a AFL Fantasy league in 2015 (no bearing on the comp),for those that wish to play both DT formats. I can see another vote coming up on what format we use in 2016. I personally don't care either way, as long as it;s easy to arrange the leagues and get all the details I need for the comp.

Automatic promotion to the next Div, for winning the GF. Might be higher, but that will depend on returning coaches for 2015. VG score you had, well done. Good luck in 2015.

DeeVoted replied to DeeVoted's topic in Fantasy Footy
Supercoach is now open for all Gold Members. If anyone gets bored with their new chrissie presents, if you are a gold member, you can kill a few hours picking your team for 2015. http://supercoach.heraldsun.com.au/team_picker Some of the changes: 3 mids on the pine. Only 1 ruck on the bench. -
A Merry Xmas and all the best for the New year to all my fellow Demon supporters.

Agree, so many years I thought you would related to Jane Asher. I checked, there wasn't any reference to her having a brother. Noel, Nathan, Ned etc. }) -
Surely our luck will change. Having Tyson building on this year would be a huge step for us to climb up the ladder. These type of players that have been on a list for a few years are the ones that need to keep improving and more importantly have along successful career in the red and blue. Since 2000 irc we have had only 8 ?? players that have joined the club ,play over 150 games. That's just one factor why our young recruits struggle. Even when we trade in experience from other clubs, even those experienced guys haven't stayed on the list long enough to help guide the new players. Not one player in 12 years has chalked up 200 games. You need only to look back at some of players that promised a lot but failed to deliver: T.Johnston, C.Johnson. S.Thompson took 3 years to show he had what it took, then disappeared back home. add B.McLean, Jurrah teased us for a few seasons Wonaeamirri promised a lot, then was gone in the blink of an eye. The lastest being Clark. Against all that we are long due to strike some gold. I'm really looking forward to a fit and firing J.Hogan. The group gain some confidence and self belief, the momentum swings and everyone starts to look good.

Geez Nut you are all over this thread. Almost every post you have posted here I have agreed with. Tyson hopefully continues his 2014 form into 2015.
