  1. unlike Robbo, richo has a presence. But a cull of the rest makes sense.
  2. I think you'll find their new coach is actually pinching all the players for the team he coached a week ago. He doesn't really care for the Richmond seniors team!
  3. That's the point - holding one up WONT get you 5000. It just makes you look stupid.
  4. He was still the ONLY forward to make any presence as a forward. Pity the game highlight was followed by the game lowlight, but you can see his thoughts - just tap it through. Pity it failed and pity he didn't go back for a kick. Dunn to FF, Miller to CHF sure (and not the way Tall Defence put it), and Robbo as the extra forward, not the key forward. And who has ever said these? "He'll be able to teach the young ones a few tricks" "He straightens us up" "He's exciting and brings people to the footy" "His defensive pressure isn't that bad" "He's the heart of the club" Yeah, I know you can probably show the quotes. I'd go with #3 but none of the others.
  5. And with a broken ankle too. Classy and tough!
  6. Interesting topic, where the title says one thing (top 5 all time), and then the message says another (favourite 5 to watch) and then everyone (nearly) answers something completely different (top 5 seen). So lets go with the more interesting question: "Who did/do you enjoy watching play footy over your time as a Demon supporter?" and it has to be Flower. Jackovich - entertainment. plus our only real great full forward in the classic big man sense since Fanning. Mark Jackson - you just went to the game to watch him. Even watched SK and Geelong games for his sake. Wiz (then Flash then Woona) - excitement and of course Hopgood - just one of the greatest 150 players ever.
  7. what's all this negativity about Valenti? Don't like players who go in for the ball? Very glad he's there.
  8. What's the break even point on games? 20,000 at the G for the Dees, 30,000+ at Docklands for the Dogs? MCC give us lots of money extra anyway. If we play lots of games away from the G there aint no such desire for them to do that anymore. MCC want to give more money to the clubs, the AFL with all their cash reserves don't want to share - who's the baddie here?
  9. my thoughts on the game - a very game performance by an outclassed team. Started repacking the bag after 12 seconds, but glad we stayed a bit longer! Geelong supportor in the crowd asked why any melbourne supporter would turn up. Next comment i was ready to remind him about the GF. Would have won the first quarter except for the stuffing up on that last goal. Lots of pressure on geelong, but too many mistakes at crucial times, which either killed good attacks or let them get easy goals. They would have learnt a fair bit. Anything under a 10 goal loss was a win! And we won the last! First team to beat Ablett too. The key - hurt his groin!
  10. why the hell would you drop him, got lots of the ball, just stuffed it everytime. overawed by the occasion? once he gets settled a game like today he'd have 4 goals against his name. give hime time now - a shocker doesn't matter at this point. by Round 12 (the pencilled in Watts game) he'll be fine.
  11. Leave Newton for 3 more weeks. Robbo in, but not at FF or CHF. That has NEVER worked. Leave Newton in to get some confidence. Leave Miller at CHF, and let Robbo be Robbo and not a Key Position Player who will get hammered. Glad I didn't get to the game today though!
  12. Yeah, lets get the true averages out pre-vfa : lots (we were the invincible whites). average: dunno, pretty good. vfa: none (i think). so equal to freo. vfl: 12 in 93 years (or thereabouts). 7.75 years. afl: 0 in 15 or so. so equal to freo freo: afl: 0 in 15 or so, so equal to melbourne. I'll leave it to the reader's exercise (or the next poster) to determine average finals appearances, and Grand Final appearances, in the AFL between the two, but I don't think Freo are going to look too good there. Are Freo the University of the modern competition. The stats are probably very similiar.
  13. Of which the conclusion is, if it wasn't for an ex richmond bloke and a collingwood supporter we'd have 1 premiership total? And that if you have something good, then surely a committee will come along and stuff it. Reading it now, and Norm has just been sacked!
  14. bit early to think about consecutive wins. one win sequences are pretty good at the moment.
  15. and little expense. didn't they have well over 40,000 last year anyway? so good on them. irrelevant thinking point: we've never won a premiership with more than a few thousand members......
  16. Robbo IS NOT a key position player. He's the extra forward. That's how Daniher killed him. So Robbo coming back has nothing to do with his position in the side (unless Bailey is equally dumb, but I don't think so)
  17. maybe st kilda and melbourne should merge and so should casey and sandringham, just so we can cope < duck > SK going to Sandy, though a natural fit, makes it really hard to keep barracking for them! VFL team was Prahran (lived near there, Jimmy, etc), but then adopted Sandy and enjoyed the years with them. Finding it hard to barrack for Casey so its still Sandy for me for a while longer.
  18. This is just dumb, 1) why is Robbie Flower there? 2) best EVER - ok, it goes back to Carl Ditterich, there's 110 years of footy before that. Oh, and Ron a bit earlier, but he wasn't the toughest of his era. Mr Football was tougher wasn't he? That's like celebrating 150 years of football and only including modern footballers in your legends of the club. Ask Norm Smith - he'll tell you Captain Blood. Ask any 1920 footballer - they'll tell you modern (last 30 years) are all weak. So yeah, from that list, its got to be Lethal, the other 'toughs' were mainly snipers and thugs. But go and give us a properly researched list.
  19. it was a pretty ordinary year full of players wasn't it. not much talent there.
  20. My 8yo daughter got a Melbourne bear this morning for her birthday, and looked at the 2008 scarf it was wearing and said "Good, its the logo I can draw".
  21. Were we ever 'officially' the melbourne demons? Haven't they always been 'The Melbourne Football Club', nicknamed 'The Demons' (after a set of earlier nicknames) ? Mixing name and moniker together is a pathetic marketing ploy of new franchises without history. Appending FC to a football club makes us a soccer club lookalike. We are not ManchesterFC or MelbourneFC soccer club. Send the non-demons demons the way of the grey away jumper. And while we are there - return www.demons.com.au to active use. Fantastic website name, pity about the crap setup.
  22. J.McDonald, J.White, A.Yze Is this the most experienced emergency list in the history of football?
  23. Maybe he could go to sydney for a year or two and jolly could be second ruckman again? Um, the reason he isn't getting a game isn't because he's 3rd best ruckman at the worst team, its because the two hacks who do get a game need a white less run at it while it doesnt matter.
  24. can't we just make a forum rule that anyone who starts a discussion about trades gets an automatic week ban?
  25. of course the commentators going crazy, in one day newton has just got mark of the day, gaol of the day, and that, which really got the commentator excited, was his 10th goal for the match. (plus he also had 3 shephards and 5 tackles, but they were overshadowed).
