  1. not to mention playing some v. ordinary football before said injury
  2. great thread/opening post the yo-yo syndrome is not just a seasonal thing, but a weekly thing 2004, we beat the Hawks by 44 points in round 18 to find ourselves on top of the ladder. We then lose the last 4, pushing us to an elimination final and have the Dons end our season with a 5 point loss. Ouch. 2005, we win Queen's Birthday by 45 points to be sitting 2nd with 10 games left to play. We lose 7 in a row, then, somehow scrape back into the 8 by winning the last 3 by a total of 15 points. Then we are pummeled out of the finals by the Cats, whom we had beaten at skilled 3 weeks earler. Ouch. 2006, we beat the dogs by 51 in r17 and sit 3rd on the ladder. We lose 3.5 of the last 5, but actually manage to win a final. Then we are bundled out by Freo how's that for a three-peat of squandered chances...
  3. totally agree he came 9th in the B+F and also got the coaches award and heart and soul player award for his troubles at 21 years and 37 games he will be out there every week getting pummeled for years to come just like Junior was some people just don't have a clue
  4. Clark Green Watts Howe Petterd Jurrah Jamar Sylvia any of the above have the ability to kick a bag if they play around goals all day. Will be fascinating to see how Neeld sets up the forwardline. Tough call for our opponents when you have your 5th/6th best defender l;ining up on Jurrah or Tricky Ricky petterd
  5. BARTRAM FRAWLEY BENNELL RIVERS GARLAND MORTON TRENGOVE MOLONEY GYSBERTS WATTS CLARK PETTERD DAVEY GREEN JURRAH JAMAR SYLVIA JONES MARTIN MCKENZIE GRIMES BAIL MACDONALD BATE DUNN JETTA GYSBERTS TAPSCOTT HOWE STRAUSS NICHOLSON BLEASE EVANS GAWN
  6. on the planet UNCO there is a monument for Ben Holland. The monument itself is falling over because it depicts Ben Holland attempting to stand upright and it was assembled by some incredibly UNCO labourers. The planet itself struggles to orbit its star without going off course.
  7. in both of the 2010 and 2011 seasons we ranked 8th for attendances (avg, home and away) and 11th for memberships... bear in mind its 17 sides in 2011. The leauge avg. membership last year was 38,257, ours was 36,937. It's also worth noting it is pretty tight between 3rd and 11th, with an extra 3300 members we'd be 8th, and with an extra 8000 we'd be 3rd... and this is on the back of 6 pretty damn awful seasons in a row. so I don't get why we have this reputation as having poor support when the numbers clearly don't indicate it.
  8. if we were to shower the turf in monopoly money Scully would spend the first quarter scurrying around collecting it all. Wouldn't need to tag him.
  9. I believe the expression is 'balls deep' gentlemen
  10. if you haven't listened to that SEN audio, do yourself a favour - the Ox with his MFC badge firmly fixed on, letting it known how he feels about the situation. Good on him. if there is a shizenstorm tomorrow, does anyone think it is possible an outcome could be reached where we end up squeezing a little bit more out of the compo situation? ps there is no way in hell the gutless one will be anywhere near the MCG in round 13. While his 'club' is being eviscerated he'll be riding around blacktown in a limo drinking non-alchoholic wine while big daddy-o takes care of a 20 pack of McNuggets.
  11. just a thought on the notion of REPUTATION - I think Daniher epitomised how fraught with error it can be when you allow yourself to let players take their place in the side based on what they have done in the past. The worst example for mine was Brad Miller. This bloke played about 5 good games but inexplicably took the field for us 133 times. It is almost as if these rare performances cemented him in Daniher's mind as our star KPP and booked him in for nine seasons. Of course we ended up being a side that was lacking a couple of key ingredients that kept us from the ultimate glory, who knows what might have happened had ND realised Miller was not the man and recruited/poached/developed a better replacement. If I was Neeld I'd be telling the players that I don't give a rats about the great game ou played on Barry Hall once, or even the great season you had a couple back, i'm only interested in what you are going to do for this week's match.
  12. well I cannot recall Dean Bailey, Neale Daniher or Neil Balme doing it either. What's your point?
  13. I was going to post practically the exact same thing. I opened the article expecting the usual coach speak we are accustomed to.. when asked about Davey most coaches would say something like 'Aaron's very highly regarded at the club, and we know that he will get back to the performances we know he's capable of' but Neeld just gave the 'if he doesn't perform as expected he won't get a game' love it
  14. feeling incredible levels of hatred for this individual. I once had a boss that was an absolute **** and I thought that was hatred... but I had no idea just picture moloney, rd 13 next year, in the centre with him.. 4th quarter we lead by 120 and he buries him in the turf with a few choice words now I feel better
  15. "I'd be really surprised if he was able to put out 20 games a season for six seasons in a row for that club," Larkins said. "I can't see 120 games over six years, based on the fact he played 10 out of 22 this year." Larkins said Scully's initial left knee injury, which required surgery before he was drafted at No.1 in 2008, would continue to dog him. "It's turned out the original injury, which has resulted in some bone being removed from his kneecap, has changed the shape of his knee," Larkins said. "He now has an issue ... as he gets stronger and bigger he can only put more stress on the knee. "As you get older, knee injuries only get worse ... they don't get better." Larkins said Scully struggled this year when his training loads were ramped up, and that he needed to pull back "because the shock absorbing system at the back of the kneecap wasn't what it used to be". "Unless Greater Western Sydney get on top of those issues, it will stop him in the future," Larkins said. Scully first injured his left kneecap playing for Dandenong in the 2009 under-18 finals series. He missed the TAC Cup grand final and draft camp testing because of surgery. Larkins said Scully would have to be managed by the Giants. "They are going to have to look at his training program," Larkins said. "You'd hope (GWS) have got every 'i' dotted. "We're not talking about a bloke who's had a medial ligament in a knee or an AC joint in the shoulder ... we're talking about a cartilage-related, stress loading problem."
  16. so what should we have done, just given the [censored] an equal offer, effectively taking it straight out of the pockets of Watts, Trengove, Frawley, Jurrah, McKenzie? No bloody chance it was bad luck we had a player ripe for the plucking at the moment the AFL was gifting a new club whatever they want besides, it was 'luck' we got he and Trengove in the first place anyway, the AFL's garbage worked FOR us on that occasion like I said, two first rounders plus the financial freedom to keep other young guns AND poach Mitch clark, for a player who is possibly injury-stuffed is not too bad an outcome for mine
  17. we get a 'mid-first round' doesn't that mean about pick 8/9? the other is directly after our standard pick which, if we finish 10th, will result in 7+8?
  18. there was an extra 3 million bucks sitting on the table why does there have to be anything else to it?
  19. so its like I said plus once-off $100 sign up fee
  20. every game live for about 12 bucks a week, am I dreaming?
  21. to say we wasted a number 1 draft pick is very stupid, we had our number 1 turned into 7+8 or something like that, which could end up being a winner, especially if 'the [censored] breaks down with injury his whole career which is distinctly possible also, there is no way we would have Mitch Clark if 'the [censored]' had decided to soak up all that cash we offered him.. so if Clark ends up being an important player to us you can chalk that up us a win too i'm at peace with it
  22. way to prove my point, you have no clue if anyone was drunk and the fact Sylvia was the passenger makes it totally moot anyway why don't you start a thread on the bloke who was speeding with a 7-year old kid on his bike, at least you aware of the facts on that one
  23. Totally agree There are so many houlier-than-thou douchebags on this site, so eager to stick the boot in with moral outrage based on nothing. I'm glad none of you were my parents, teachers or any of my bosses. Even if he did do something wrong, who really gives a toss, I follow Australian Rules Football not the choir boy awards FCS, why does everyone care so much about these blokes personal lives? I reckon it comes down to tall poppy syndrome - everyone is jealous of the cash and the fame and the girls and the fact they get to play footy for a job, they feel they have to take something away from them. Besides, Wayne Carey and Ben cousins.
