It was Olisik that posted it, so Grain. Salt. I find it amusing that some are happy to give Pick 2 (or 3) and Toumpas, yet aren't happy to give both Pick 2 & 3. Some would rather us keep one of those picks, then spend the next 3-5 years developing them, yet aren't willing to give Toumpas, a former Pick 4, any extra time, although he is only two years in to HIS development. Amazing. If the deal is Pick 2 and 3 for Danger and their Pick 10, you just do it.

I wouldn't call it "demonland logic", but I'll absolutely say it, I think Howe should be put on the market, AT THE RIGHT PRICE. He had a reasonable year, playing in the so called easiest position on the ground. He is one of very few players on our list with reasonable trade value. He still plays too loose as a defender, and is uncertain when to mark and when to spoil. I think there are far better half back flankers out there, which leads to me sending him forward. He takes a screamer, more than any other player, but I wouldn't say he has set the world on fire as a half forward. In my view, we overate Howe, and I feel the broader AFL community may do so more. I would really love to know what Roos' thoughts are on JH, just so I know how close or far off the mark my thoughts are. I'm sure a number of people will reply with what they think what Roos' thoughts would be.

Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
The Chazz replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
To be honest, Ron, I have NFI if we will or won't get him, and have even less idea if we will try! One thing I do believe though is that while Carlton are interested, and with Barry Prendergast being on their payroll, there is a far greater chance they will fcuk up any potential deal. -
Would the inclusion of Dangerfield in to our midfield not potentially bring that forward? Offering someone big dollars brings responsibility for said player. Part of his responsibility would be to ensure our rise up the ladder happens earlier.

Gawn won the Casey B&F didn't he? -
Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
The Chazz replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think we will get Dangerfield. Therefore... Pick 3 to Sydney for Mitchell and their first round pick (approx. 18), and second round pick (approx. 36). On-trade pick 18 and pick 36 to GWS for Greene and Frost. We keep our 3rd round pick for Stretch. I just can't see anyone bidding on him prior to our 2nd rounder. Edit - re Swans trade, maybe an agreement between a couple of old mates allowing Malceski to be delisted, thus coming to us as a delisted free agent. -
Mods - for the sake of most threads, can you please create a "trading" thread where Olisik is the only one allowed to post, with the condition that they (Olisik) are not allowed to post their trade ideas in any other thread?
-
Partyboy - where does this leave the Dangerfield scenario?
-
A different angle to look at it from is that one of our former, most talented (albeit inconsistent) players struggles to have an impact in a competition that is two or three tiers lower than the big league. Add to this our former number 4 pick who can only get a handful of votes in the same league. There's more blokes on our list that the above two were better than than not. Sylvia in particular would most likely have been in our best 22 this year, don't kid yourself believing he wouldn't have been. Any wonder we are so far below industry standard.

We couldn't be so lucky that Bail would request a trade could we? I think Robinson is a total fwit, and I would need help in accepting him, but like I did with Moorcroft, I just did. He's a far better player than Blease (on current output), and I would argue that he has more to offer than Bail, so if Rohan doesn't like a Blease for Robinson trade, then I won't lose sleep if it ends up costing us two players.

This is why we need to be proactive rather than reactive with regards to player acqusition (hence this thread). Sure, Leuy is contracted, but he signed that contract before there was any knowledge of Ryder coming in, and most likely prior to West coming on board and Marting showing "something". When he signed his contract, he was clearly their number 1 ruck, arguably still is. However, for him, a lot has changed over this season, and potentially with the addition of Ryder, a lot more will change. If he can see that his status of being first picked could be compromised, then that's when you (MFC) swoop, rather than waiting until the last year of his contract and having to compete with 16 other clubs. Although I don't think we are the only ones that think this way. It's probably part of the reason why I started the Trent West thread. He could be a very cheap buy because he is further down the order of preference, so would see more opportunities as a very big factor.
-
Well, given the bloke that caused point 2 is now involved with those that caused point 1, it's a formula that is more probable than possible!
-
Moonie, I think the priority is improving the list. The addition of Leuenberger or West wouldn't be a step backwards in achieving that.
-
Further to the thread about Leuenberger, it makes some sense (to me) that Trent West's name is raised as a potential target. The advantage of West is that he'd be a lot cheaper than Leuenberger - the Lions paid a 40-something pick for him after Geelong paid a 30-something pick for him. I do think we have some ruck issues, hence me looking at these two. Jamar is on last legs, I still have no idea if Spencer can play or not, Gawn will be fantastic if he can stay on the park (no guarantee), King is raw, then we look at Pedo and Fitzy. Premiership winning ruck, might be looking for more opportunities if a Ryder deal can be done. Also originates from Victoria, which may help? Again, discuss...
-
Don't think this bloke's name has been brought up on here, but with the Lions supposedly chasing Patty Ryder, and Stef Martin showing some late season form to secure a contract extension, and to have Trent West, a more than capable ruck-in-waiting, should we be chasing the services of Leuenberger? 26 years old, hit by injury this year in particular. Don't think he'd be the worst addition going around, but probably would cost us a bit (pick-wise) to secure him. Discuss.

There's two ways of answering this Hardtack; 1. The dumb khunts gave us pick 11 2. We got pick 11 which some dumb khunt selected Gysberts with Take your pick, but it's not unlikely that both scenarios are accurate.

All due respect B59, you've been pumping these false dawns as much as anyone, especially since I started posting since 2009. In that time, I remember the times you thought we were going to get KOTD during a draft/trade period, that some players would play "Neeld footy" - the Neeld that was hard/tough/uncompromising, not what hindsight showed us Neeld to being the incompetent/fcuked in the head type stuff. If I were to just rely on your ramping over the past 5 or so years, I'd be struggling to understand why we haven't gone back-to-back by now. Luckily for you that I've been living this nightmare period too, so can understand your continual optimism when something new comes in, and sincerely commend you for it, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Young, high draft pick midfielder, can't break in to the senior team. If he was on the GWS list most of us would be wanting to trade for him.
-
I did read it SS. Could that be part of "the game"?
-
I take great interest in what GNF has to say. Is he/she FOS? Who knows, but there seems to be a lot of accuracy in what they post. Further to that, I recall seeing GNF post about the MFC willing to play games (or similar) in a bid to keep a potential return from Clark "hidden" for as long as possible. If the last 24 hours is anything to go by, this is one fcuked up game, but maybe it's just that, a game? Could OUR club be ahead of the comp, rather than being "blindsided" as reported?

My optimistic opinion; MFC; - have applied for special consideration to get Mitch on the rookie list, and a greater salary than a standard rookie - will certainly receive a Band 1 compo pick for losing Frawley AFL; - will instruct MC and manager to "float" him around as trade bait, indicating clubs are interested, ensuring the footy world feels sorry for the MFC - have instructed MC to remove any MFC-related content from social media to appear that his time there is done - will be able to justify giving us Band 1 for Frawley (which is likely to be overs given the expected contract terms), as it appears likely that he (MC) will be leaving us for SFA Other clubs; - will be satisfied that we didn't get a Priority Pick for performance (but being totally blindsided by the approved special consideration as mentioned above) - will accept the compo pick for Frawley being higher than "market value" We come out smelling like roses because we couldn't get a deal done for MC, but have been able to rookie him to give him "another chance". We get way overs for Frawley, because reality is, he's not worth a Pick 3 (Judd was traded to Carlton for Pick 3!). AFL look good as they allowed us to put MC on rookie list after no-one was able to offer him a senior spot. My pessimistic opinion; - MC is a khunt - Our condition is downgraded from critical to palliative In the mean time, I will sit on the fence and have zero opinion until I hear more. I do have this weird Neeld-like twitch building around my right eye though, but I'm currently controlling it...just.

I made the comment upon Neeld's selection that he could be the next premiership coach of the MFC or the last coach of the MFC. I was bloody close with the latter. IF Clark leaves in this manner, it has the potential to rip the heart out of this club, or give it more than ever. Again, I hope I'm right with the latter.

Is it Leigh Mathews or Kevin Sheedy that is famous for saying that it's not how well they play in a winning side, it's how well they play in a losing side that tells us more about the player? For many years we've had too many players play poorly in losses (hence many blowouts that have occurred in recent history). Thankfully this appears to be changing. For the B&F - well done Jonesy, Dom, Bernie. Nothing personal, but I do hope that Cross isn't in the Top 10 next year, but has a similar year onfield...
-
Given the history of who has won it, there's not too many on the honour roll that wouldn't be in our Top 5 at some stage of their careers.

Don't use the expansion teams as an excuse, use our own incompetence. We had a window of about 2 draft periods to get it right. We didn't. Then the talent dried up because of the expansion teams. In previous decades, if we stuffed up during our window like we did, we'd only wait a year or two and try again. We didn't have that "opportunity" this time around, so we have to wait until now to try again.
