  1. I actually don’t see how it changes the analysis for the writer at all. We started with pick 2 and turned it into Tyson and Salem (give or take) and could otherwise have had anyone in the draft other than Boyd. That is the benchmark against which an unbiased assessment of our loot that year should be made. I think the assessment is ok relative to how others have been graded other than we don’t get enough credit for Harmes and Jetta which I think could have bumped us up to an 8. Having said all of this, it matters little. We have a great list now. The subjective assessment of our take in a particular year is really meaningless overall. It’s awesome that we don’t need to pin our relevance to the draft anymore!
  2. Our draw was more or less just as easy.
  3. Could take Tyson’s spot on the wing, Richo style!
  4. Hunt and our first round pick (if we still had one) wouldn’t even net pick 5.
  5. So many Demonlanders seem to follow the Donald Trump thesis that each move has to have a winner and a loser. Sometimes blocking out all the noise and just getting stuff done pragmatically is the best approach, particularly when there are multiple parallel negotiations going on at the one time. Hard to judge such a small fry move in isolation.
  6. He’s statistically more likely to be out injured than to turn in a blinder against us.
  7. He’s not best 22 with a full squad for sure but he’s high up the list of next in line. Tyson is super frustrating, but we actually don’t have a lot of midfield depth and could be exposed with a couple of injuries.
  8. Collingwood also won two finals and beat three top 6 teams, including us.
  9. Really, we need to give up on this subject. They will have beaten GWS, Melbourne, WCE and Richmond if they win the flag which is 4 of the top 5 (excluding themselves). That’s deserving form in anyone’s language. Our story would’ve been pretty much the same.
  10. That tactic only works if Melbourne don’t manage to re-sign him in the meantime. If I was Freo I’d do ASAP so the situation is within my control.
  11. Geelong lost Ablett and Hawks lost Buddy so there is a precedent for strong Club’s losing star players. Both clubs incidentally did ok without them.
  12. In the same way we were left exposed when Lever went down, who comes in as key forward if we trade Hogan and one of Weid or TMac go down? Trading Hogan still feels ridiculous to me.
  13. My view is quite different. I don’t think that pace is the reason we lose games, albeit we have less leg speed than teams like the pies and WCE. The games where we have been exposed this year we have been smashed in the contest and no amount of leg speed was ever going to remedy that. Opposition sides talk about how quickly we move the ball when we are winning, much like the Geelong sides of mid 2000s who didn’t have much in the way of genuine pace but moved the ball like lightning. In my opinion, out biggest deficiency, and the difference between our side and those Geelong sides, is skill and composure. We need to generate so many more opportunities than our opposition because we are less efficient with the ball. Top of my wish list would be players that fit our “type” but who can hit targets and make good decisions most of the time. Salem is one who is combative and classy but there aren’t too many of those on our list.
  14. Is Lewis worst on ground?
  15. Classic MFCSS by me but only Melbourne could make a prelim and dish up this sort of embarrassment.
  16. I find myself barracking for Collingwood injuries lol
  17. Rance is so overrated.
  18. Perfect mirror of my thoughts this week. You must be a smart bloke ?
  19. ProDee’s explanation sounds plausible to me and the source is credible. Can’t see Gaff coming. As an aside, it’s funny how so many assume that players interested in success must be coming to the Dees and players going anywhere else must be mercenary. A lot of posters in this thread are showing a hint of the “Tex Walkers”.
  20. Should be a really interesting game. We need to win the midfield well, like last time. If we do that, we should win. If the midfield battle is even, things could get uncomfortable.
  21. Could not agree more. We all want to go if we make it.
  22. I suspect captains and past winners get an automatic gong. Geelong has two winners and Richmond one which seems to be a possible explanation why they have seven and six respectively?
  23. I definitely don't think our FD are the type that go publicly stating our intentions or our targets, on that we agree. I'm just not prepared to draw inferences from the silence. I hope we land Gaff or someone equally exciting.
  24. Funny, I'd call that the definition of a long bow! ?
  25. Is it just me or is the umpiring in this game disgracefully one sided?
