It’s so true. His press conference comments about owing Lewis loyalty for what he’d contributed at Melbourne (and Hawthorn ffs) says it all in my opinion. He won’t make the tough calls on guys like Lewis, Jones and even Hibberd until too late.

Not too disappointed by the ins although I’m not an ANB or a Tim Smith fan. But unless TMac plays back, we will get absolutely mauled by their forward line. If I have to watch Hore or, heaven forbid, Hibberd pretending to be KPD on one of their guns I will vomit.

Agree. Our forward half would also look a lot better if our kids could lower their eyes and hit a target.

Hard to watch. How can a young team that did so much against the odds late last season regress so badly in 6 games? We are carrying so many passengers right now and at least 5 vfl standard cloggers are getting easy games.

Not sure it’s the backline that’s our biggest problem. How many Saints players have we hit with our i50 entries? Feels like 2012 watching some of that junk.

My main worry is who will take whichever of Bruce or Membrey that Frost doesn’t take. We’ve underrated Membrey a few times with a Hibberd type defender and he’s stitched us up. But it feels like the sort of game where if we bring our best we will win. Having said this, so did the previous four rounds and we’re 1-3... so what would I know.

Pace is an overrated attribute. It only matters if you get hands on the ball. When we lose to quick teams it’s generally because we lose clearances / contested possession or turn it over. If we bring our best game, nobody makes us look slow.

Pedersen was cooked. Smith is poo. Hope TMac and Weid play full seasons next year and we don’t have to worry about fringe battlers who might or might not get a call-up.

I actually don’t see how it changes the analysis for the writer at all. We started with pick 2 and turned it into Tyson and Salem (give or take) and could otherwise have had anyone in the draft other than Boyd. That is the benchmark against which an unbiased assessment of our loot that year should be made. I think the assessment is ok relative to how others have been graded other than we don’t get enough credit for Harmes and Jetta which I think could have bumped us up to an 8. Having said all of this, it matters little. We have a great list now. The subjective assessment of our take in a particular year is really meaningless overall. It’s awesome that we don’t need to pin our relevance to the draft anymore!

Our draw was more or less just as easy.

So many Demonlanders seem to follow the Donald Trump thesis that each move has to have a winner and a loser. Sometimes blocking out all the noise and just getting stuff done pragmatically is the best approach, particularly when there are multiple parallel negotiations going on at the one time. Hard to judge such a small fry move in isolation.

He’s statistically more likely to be out injured than to turn in a blinder against us.

He’s not best 22 with a full squad for sure but he’s high up the list of next in line. Tyson is super frustrating, but we actually don’t have a lot of midfield depth and could be exposed with a couple of injuries.

Collingwood also won two finals and beat three top 6 teams, including us.

Really, we need to give up on this subject. They will have beaten GWS, Melbourne, WCE and Richmond if they win the flag which is 4 of the top 5 (excluding themselves). That’s deserving form in anyone’s language. Our story would’ve been pretty much the same.

That tactic only works if Melbourne don’t manage to re-sign him in the meantime. If I was Freo I’d do ASAP so the situation is within my control.

Geelong lost Ablett and Hawks lost Buddy so there is a precedent for strong Club’s losing star players. Both clubs incidentally did ok without them.
