  1. looks like most here have a negative view of this. I actually read it as a positive for the club that its leaders are taking responsibility for losses. Sure, selection committee should have pulled them out earlier maybe, but I'd rather senior players make a call then not make a call. They are senior players, basically on-field assistant coaches, they'll know they're not doing well. A few weeks out, a bit of a training block and one or both will probably make a difference later in the year.
  2. We have no idea how decent our reserves miss are but we'll lose them if we don't start moving them into the fringe positions held by Harmes. It's a tough choice but one needed for sustainability.
  3. Dunstan injured, running but not full training yet. I think Salem coming back in will release Brayshaw and Rivers will have JJ back in the twos and those two into midfield stints, meaning fwd stints for the trac and likely viney/Oliver. I think the fwd support will be there without Melk in there as well, in saying that, he did get 5 on a slow track in Wonthaggi the other week. Coaches won't have forgotten that.
  4. I never like reading 'mid-foot'. It's a complex region that can be minor or serious. Hoping it's the minor end. I think it's an admirable thing from Petty to take on the challenge of going forward and learning the new role. A selfish player could have just said, 'nope- I'm happy doing my role down back and im not letting anyone take that spot from me'. Instead he's taken the risk, giving it a real go and competing. I don't know if it was coincidence that we started to lose momentum when we lost him for the third quarter. His marking and contest was an exceptional out for us on the wings and was stretching the defence. I'd think Mcdonald might be the better contested mark chance, but I really don't know. wouldn't be shocked to see them go for Schache again.
  5. made this backseat-coaching fan very happy to see this happen for a full game. Been wanting to see this for two years. Not perfect, and like someone said, a little low on confidence understandably, but the last quarter would have gave him a good feel. Between him and van Rooyen, defenders are going to be sore by the end of the game. I think if Brown is out injured you'd want some experience replacing him with Mcdonald, but otherwise I'd be happy to see Brown, van Rooyen and Petty given a run at it till Gawn is back. With Turner coming in down back if needed, though Hibbo does play over-sized.
  6. knowing a little bit on this one, T-mac will be managing the foot in general post-lisfranc pretty closely. Lisfranc is a total putz on the rest of your foot, there'll always be little complications.
  7. We got support- got priority picks, even 'tanked' for it, got financial bailouts, got afl support to get Jackson and Roos. stuffed most of that up, but we've got something out of it in the end, and man, doesn't it feel amazing to be able to be on the winners side. So wouldn't it be a good thing to see some lads trying their best, and a coach putting in the ridiculous hard work get some reward? They're are good people trying hard. Just because you care about Dees doesn't mean you also want others to fail. Speaking on my own behalf at least.
  8. So I went on my belated honeymoon this week to the Whitsundays and got covid on day 1. I thought though… at least I’ll get to watch a drubbing on Saturday. so screw Jackson, I damn well expect a drubbing. jump high young Mbrown. dees by 12 goals.
  9. Haha he’s still shredding it for Phillip island
  10. I know we won't throw a change like this, but I'd love to see Petty out of the goal square and BBB roaming up the ground. His contested marks are incredible. Otherwise, no changes needed. We finally got some dees magic back in the legs, far from a perfect game but the flair was there. back them in.
  11. He was pretty decent at one point. bit of a lumberer though
  12. I keep wondering about our ruck and tall defence depth. Someone like Litherland or Brown comes to mind to stock up the defence which is extremely thin if T.mac goes down.
  13. Dunny! what an interesting case. Was loved and hated over the years, and frequently got bashed on here, but then would reinvent himself in another position and get another contract. He must have played for us in every position but ruck.... or was he one of the 'Bailey experiments? anyway, Great years of service, its obviously more respectful to him to be playing than trekking to Cranbourne every week. Good on him.
  14. I was really hoping for some kind of freak trade-up of picks into the second round like the last couple of years. Oh well, can't get it every year.
  15. Haha not totally sure what you're going for there, but I like the enthusiasm. That nickname may be a bit of a mouthful. Do you mean no one had heard of Vandenberg either?
  16. can anyone honestly say they've thought of this guy in the last year? I reckon I'd win a hat in Hamish and Andy's 'name someone we havent thought of in a while' competition.
  17. Potentially the most non-derailed thread I've ever seen on Demonland.
  18. I got tagged in a facebook post staying this was a 99% complete deal. Had a look at who was making the noise about it and it was all from fans, and not one media person. That was probably the first hint.
  19. Fremantle will be laughing with that one. I can't be bothered with the maths, but I do wonder if that means GWS will need to bulk up later picks for points again. AKA, Dees have a look in for a pick upgrade.
  20. two seasons ago I was so keen to get Griffin or Clarke across, out from under sandilands. After this season... really nothing to note from either. Not sure what's happened.
  21. For what it's worth, apparently he had a poor relationship with McKenna. Then he lost confidence bad when he had surgery, not sure what happened this year. Maybe just needed a run at it. Surely we would take someone like him, or another ruck on a rookie list or something. surely.
  22. Pretty sure I saw that pick 94 mentioned in the category B rookie listing of Joel Smith. Which suggested to me at the time that the Mahoney knew we wanted another pick to get him on the list so worked out something with Hawthorn knowing they wanted Fitzy.
  23. I'm not going to take their word as gospel but trade radio yesterday, Barrett and Wallace were iffy on whether Weidermann would actually be picked that high after missing lots of games. They thought he'd slide a bit. I'll put some blind hope in that theory for a bit.
  24. I was disappointed to see him delisted. There's a lot of faith been put in O Macdonald and Max King to be the depth talls now.
