Yes but having him contracted means we hold the upper hand in deciding whether he stays or not
-
You can do both
-
Hawks play home games in Tas are they a serious football club?
-
It won't be
-
No, we should be playing any if dockers/suns/gws as they're the ones with no supporters in Melbourne that cost us $$ when we play at the G. We should be playing crows at the G as they have decent support here
-
We usually get a lot of home games early then do a tour of Aus in the second half of the year. Wouldn't mind if it's reversed next year.
-
Surprising if we play crows r1 and its in Melbourne, would've thought they'd want that match in Adelaide. Although if we're playing Gabba R2 would be a bit rough to start the year with back to back interstate games.
-
They won in 2010 - pretty sure they didn't take the celebrations to Vic Park then though I could be wrong
-
That pick 80-whatever we paid for him is definitely gonna come back to bite us on the arse

I've written to the club commending them on making the tough and unpopular decisions in pursuit of success. So I guess we cancelled each other out.

I'm sure the admin staff take criticism of the Football Department on board
-
The minority group included the Football Department of the Melbourne Football Club so unfortunately your "majority" of 300 people (of a club with 42000 members) lose out
-
Because Motlop was a FA, the AFL manipulates the rules as they see fit so they gave Geelong extra comp so they can secure the Ablett deal and pick 31 was Ports first available pick in the 2017 draft.
-
No stress, TPP is covered by the AFL I'm pretty sure so your membership and raffle dollars won't be subsidising his salary ?

Way to change the goal posts. You intimated the playing group would be upset with the departure of Watts. I merely pointed out the playing group doesn't seem that upset and are on board to have a crack at September in 2018. Best wishes Jack, now we get back to work.

I went back and watched the first quarter of our r23 game vs Magpies because 1) I'm a masochist and 2) I hadn't seen it before. I was surprised by a couple of things namely how seemed to be all over them in general play however they scored some very opportunistic goals including a handful in the last few minutes of the quarter. I specifically tries to take note of Watts for obvious reasons but also for some on here who claim he was the only one who came to play/stood up in the first quarter. Firstly it's not like we were asleep at the wheel in that first quarter like we've seen so often the players actually came to play but just couldn't finish off their work inside 50. On to Watts - I didn't sight him until 14.20 or so left in the quarter so didn't touch the ball in the first 5 minutes. His first touch was a shirt hit up on half forward and a chip kick. He went 3rd man up and made a decent contest about 5 mins later winning the footy and kicking into the corridor from the wing. I didn't really see him much again until about 5 mins to go in the quarter other than giving away a silly free kick inside 50 for push in the back and skirting the contest across half back. He did this again on the opposite wing/half back which allowed Treloar to possess the footy. He then failed to chase Treloar leaving it up to his teammate (Hunt?) He made another couple of decent contests across half forward in the last couple of mins and a good tackle. He took a mark and kicked it forward bombing it up to Hogan after hesitating for a couple of seconds. Hogan was 1 on 2 or 3 and the Pies spoiled. Overall he was all but unsighted for the first 10 minutes was better in the latter half of the quarter making a couple of good contests and laying a strong tackle but was largely ineffectual and made at least 3 poor efforts where he either skirted the pack and didn't chase to put pressure on.

I hear what you're saying, but even in those games where he played well he was in and out of games, inconsistent from quarter to quarter. In today's footy it doesn't matter if you look good when you have the ball 15 times a game. That 15 times you have the ball may equate to 1 minute of game time. It's what you're doing for the other 119 minutes that counts. And Jack was still too inconsistent within and across games. We'll have to agree to disagree on the merits if the decision but I for one am looking forward to what 2018 is going to bring. I'm looking forward to playing in September again and celebrating that elusive flag. I'm excited to see how Oliver progresses, how Petracca, Hunt and Salem progress, I'm looking forward to seeing Hogan, Gawn and Brayshaw back out on the park for solid seasons. And what Lever will bring to our defence and TMac to our forward line. I hope everyone else is too and not just waiting for us to trip at the first hurdle so they can start pouring heat on Goodwin die to resentment over this decision.
-
You would rather the club suffer just so you can say "Goodwin was wrong" and rub it in his face?
-
It's easy to make it clear you want to go to Port when the two other clubs involved are only willing to take you on bargain basement prices and unlikely to get a deal done.
-
Yeah the players are clearly shattered. Gawn on the verge of re-signing. Hogan going nowhere. Jones & Viney clearly not unhappy with the decision and looking forward to crack in to preseason. Jog on mate.
-
His preparation effects his infield performance. His 18 months prior to injury may have been "good" but it wasn't "great".
-
How many votes did they give him in round 4? 5? 6? et al
-
The players are not involved in list management decisions. The leadership group would be consulted but the rest of them are currently on leave and there is no onus on the club to brief them all on every change as it happens. When they arrive back at the club for preseason there will likely be discussions but it's unlikely they'll sit down and say "this is why Jack was moved on" - they'll arrive as a new group looking to a new year.
-
Ah no - several clubs were keen on Lever and were told in no uncertain terms that he was going to Melbourne. If you supported the Demons you would know this.
-
Not happy, not upset - just looking forward to 2018. From a pragmatic point of view I completely understand why he's been moved on. From a sentimental point of view I have a slightly nauseous feeling that we've kicked out a guy who loves the club and supporters and they love him. Go with your gut? Or head over heart? I don't know but overall I can see the reasons why the FD made this decision and they've got the runs in the board over recent years to back them in. I understand why people are upset, they're allowed to be and need time to grieve this move. But I hope they don't try and sling mud at the club/coaches/players in the process. The decisions been made now let's back the side in. And no I won't be booing Watts when he plays against us as you stated in your prior post.
