  1. The only reason it won't get 85k is if the weather is a torrential downpour or MFC members don't turn up. I don't think either will be the case.

Plenty are. Can't play one on one. Not worth what we paid. Is struggling on the bigger ground (MCG). Poor disposal. Etc etc
  3. If we can pull wins out over the next couple of weeks we should be aiming at 45k. Shouldn't underestimate the value of Anzac Eve as a home game (every 2nd year) moving forward either, being a member may be the only way to get a decent seat.

He's 22. He's still 2 or 3 years off his peak. Maybe we should give him more than 3 games before writing him off hey
  5. Which part? I think its a coin toss Game but have a feeling we might get done by the Hawks. I think we match up well against Richmond and we have a tendency to get up for big games so I think we might win that one.
  6. Well there ya go
  7. They were rubbish early but had a few premiership players back for our game and were one of the form teams in the second half of the season.
  8. Plus we didn't have Gawn or Hogan last time we played and Burgoyne killed us from memory. Not saying we'll [censored] it in (I'm actually tipping us to lose this and bounce back against the Tigers) but there are reasons to be optimistic.

That's what I thought - so the fact we are getting the arms up in tackles to get a handball away means even when we are "tackled" on those occasions it does not count towards the tackle count as we are able to get away an effective disposal.

That's a good point, tackles only count if you don't get a possession off don't they? (Or do they break the tackles stat down to effective and ineffective tackles?) We seem to be raising our arms to get handballs off in a tackle far more this year (and Petracca just bulldozing through tacklers) which would result in fewer effective tackles.

Was going to say the same thing. We're more prepared to move the ball forward at all costs, knock ons, kick off the ground, quick handballs over the top of a tackler. Previous years we've more inclined to handball backwards then sideways and around in a circle. I'd say moving it forward and getting a kick off quicker would result in being tackled less.
  12. This guy seems to have gone to another level this year. He seems to be really enjoying his footy and the freedom that had come from playing further up the ground and being allowed to play his natural game rather than sitting in the goal square with defenders hanging off him. His body language has improved exponentially and he is in career best form. This is a credit to a young man who endured a year of hell in 2017. I look forward to watching the rest of his season and career play out, he will be a key piece to our 13th flag when we finally get there.

I've read somewhere that Adelaide Oval has narrow pockets (ie when you're standing on the boundary to have a shot at goal the goal face is wider than at other grounds. This is the opposite of Subiaco which had deep pockets and made shots from there much harder). I wonder if this had an effect of making it easier to zone off in defence and get to contests quicker. Obviously being able to read the play is necessary as well but playing in a wider defensive 50 may be having an impact.
  14. What were we at this stage last year?
  15. Haha "ass-burgers" 13 disposals, 1 goal, 0 tackles today. Just sayin
  16. I don't necessarily disagree with that. I don't think the MFC needs to be a martyr to the cause though.
  17. You just described marketing, advertising and capitalism.

Yeah but he didn't punch him in the head, he missed a spoil and got him high
  19. Pigs might fly swyl. I note the AFL has recently stated that the CEOs salary will no longer be made public, if he was going to take a pay cut you can guarantee it would be all over the papers and tabloid footy shows.

    Oh please

    Is that a weird euphemism?
  22. Cigarette advertising IS illegal though; if it were legal I'd be for it. Maybe we should forego our partnerships with The Sporting Globe, Tyrrell's Wines and Coca Cola as well. After all alcohol abuse and obesity are both highly detrimental factors in society so it would be hypocritical to profit from them.
  23. That's fine that's your prerogative. I don't play pokies, I think they're horrible. I don't understand why anyone would pump money into a computer designed to take your money. But the fact is they are legal. The MFC selling their licenses to another owner makes no difference to the wider community but it does make a difference to our bottom line. I want to see the MFC be a successful and powerful club, we don't have the resources of other clubs like Richmond, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Essendon, West Coast, Adelaide etc to draw on so giving up a highly lucrative revenue stream seems to be shooting ourselves in the foot. The benefit of doing so at this stage is unclear, maybe there isn't one and the AFL has strong-armed us into making this decision as we do not have the capacity to resist like a club like Hawthorn can.
  24. The only reason I'm not too concerned as they have made nothing but sound decisions since this administration took over in 2013.
  25. Would be nice if they assisted us by creating a competition with a level playing ground. AFL don't like clubs having pokies because they can see the huge windfall it is and more clubs willing to be independent of the AFL instead of just copping it sweet.
