The Concussion Crisis in Australian Rules Football
Was it the league or the broadcaster?

They shouldn't be.

Is he better than the Wagner's? Stretch? JKH? ANB? Frost? OMac? If so it's a no brainer.

You're right, we should be going after Fyfe, Dangerfield, Kelly x2 etc. If we don't land any of these it's a(nother) complete failure by the MFC

Surely you're not that stupid?

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
We're not getting "reamed". We're being bumped down one spot in the draft. Every other club, in particular clubs like Saints and North, could be as easily aggrieved as us. Quit with the persecution complex, it's unbecoming. How much of a difference do you really think it will make if we have pick 2 or 3? Have you guys learnt nothing from the past 15 years of praying for salvation through draft picks?

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
Will never happen, more than 6 clubs are run/bankrolled by the AFL. Can't upset the applecart.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
Of course my number 1 is wanting to see the MFC win a flag, that goes without saying. BUT I also love the game as a whole, i want to see an even competition, I want to see the game grow and succeed as the premier sporting comp in Australia (which it has/will). We suck because we've had incompetent management, nothing to do with expansion teams raiding the draft. Other teams were down and out at the same time we were when the expansion teams entered and two of those, namely the Bulldogs and Tigers, have gone on to win flags. The draft is a total lottery, I don't think it's going to hurt us tremendously (if at all) being bumped down one spot. The reigning Brownlow medallist was taken in the 20s, we had 4 picks before him and stuffed every one of them bar Scully. The more chances you get the more chances you get to get it right but I dont think having pick 3 instead of 2 will have any effect at all and if it does we weren't gonna win a flag with this group anyway.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
The AFL has helped us along the way, we've had 3 round 1 priority picks plus an additional end of round 1 pick, we got extremely fair compe sation for Frawley when he left (and even Sylvia we probably got overs for), we've been bailed out financially and the AFL helped restructure our FD and get in Jackson and Roos To cry poor like the AFL has just left us to dwell at the foot of the table is disingenuous.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
Because having uncompetitive teams is bad for the competition. Because having teams anchored to the bottom of the ladder for decades on end is bad for the comp. Because for the national expansion of the game to really take home we need the expansion teams to at least be competitive to help grow interest with flow on effects to media rights, talent pool etc. It's a no brainer.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy
I couldn't give a stuff if the Sun's get a priority pick (which they have/will). Who cares, we got knocked back one spot, big deal. The draft is a complete lottery. The Suns must succeed for the sake of the game and if giving them a priority pick helps them get there then that's good. I'm not sure how much it will help, particularly in the short term but the AFL cant afford to have uncompetitive teams anchored to the foot of the ladder for years at a time. It's bad for the competition.

Rubbish. What are we giving up to get these guys in? We're not mortgaging our future for these guys, we don't even have to give up draft picks for Tomlinson or Elliott. Plus we have a list manager to keep an eye on TPP's, it's not as if Goodwin is dictating to the entire FD on every trade and contract negotiation.

Corey Wagner, Josh Wagner, Billy Stretch, Keilty OMac and JKH all got games this year. I'm sure we can slot him in somewhere I also love how everyone on here is an expert on Tomlinson, all his weaknesses, his ceiling, his pros and cons in each position after watching two games immediately after it became public knowledge that we're into him.

You've gotta be joking. Do people watch the same games as me? Frost does the occasional good thing, he has good closing speed and decent one on one. But he is an absolute butcher when he gets the footy and an absolute liability to the team.

The Hawks players think our club is a joke.

My view on the surgeries was anyone who needed anything done would all get sorted out last year knowing it would impact our 2019 campaign but getting everyone cherry ripe to for future seasons. I think the impact on 2019 was far worse than they expected though.

That's a rubbish post mate, people are allowed to be cynical of the ability of the club's leaders and question their decisions without having ulterior motives and axes to grind

I8 My expectations for 2017 were to make first week of finals, and for 2018 to make second week of finals based on our progression since 2014 and the profile of our list. We underachieved in 2017 and overachieved in 2018 based on MY expectations. 2019 was clearly a massive underperformance but whether it is indicative of what this list will achieve won't be known until we see how they perform next year. If we kill it next year, finish top 4 and compete for a flag then the list, over a period of time, won't be seen to have underachieved. If we bottom out again, miss or just scrape into finals then it will be an underachievement for the list over a period of time. I don't get what is so hard to comprehend about all that but I guess it easier to get all hot under the collar, throw a tantrum, name call and accuse others of "accepting mediocrity" whatever that means. Other than raging on an internet forum what do you (and others like you) do different to me to not accept mediocrity?

I assume you both realise that not every team starts from the same position at the beginning of each year? We had a VFL team in 2012/13. Matt Jones and Dean Terlich both finished top 5 in our B&F FFS. We've had to completely build the list up again from scratch. We probably should've made finals in 2017 but weren't a real flag threat. We should've made finals in 2019. Other than that we've performed at or above expectations. We won't know until next year whether we have underperformed or not. All things being equal we should be aiming at a top 4 finish internally in 2020. Of course the aim is a premiership but the correlating aim is continual top 4 finishes giving you an opportunity to win a flag. Which is exactly what Pert and Bartlett (and Jackson before them) have indicated in their "5-7 years" comment.

Now that Garlett is gone we have a need for an injury prone small forward

Schwab did this and was an unmitigated disaster. Created a thread, belittled the diehards on here and then disappeared refusibg to answer legitimate criticisms. As above I'd hope the club just gets on with fixing the problem and getting results. Only results will placate the members.
