		Membership Tally 2020

When is the cutoff this year? I'm thinking of buying an additional membership to try and get us up to 40k

Demonland Podcast Featuring Glen Bartlett Wednesday 1/7 @ 8:30pm

Good interview, touched on most of the areas I wanted covered and gave me some confidence the home base is closer to reality than dream. Would've liked him to give some more detail on the clubs finances but for what it was I enjoyed it and thought you guys did a great job. One of the things I'm wondering though is whether it is better to be an "unassisted" club on subsistence levels or whether it would be better to get a loan from the AFL to ensure more cash in our pockets. We still get some additional funds from the AFL every year so how is assisted vs unassisted classified? I'm hoping we can raise the million by Xmas (an extra $700k going by the figures raised in the podcast) but it is disappointing to see our current membership levels. In fact it's more than disappointing it's depressing. Last night they mentioned the Saints are 1000 members off breaking their all time record, we've dropped about 15k members since last year.

I was talking specifically about the home training base but you are correct, I have no doubt they will use the "disruption" due to Covid for any poor performances this year neglecting to mention our competitors have had to deal with the same circumstances.

		CHANGES: Rd 05 vs Richmond

I would drop Melksham on Hai efforts which were terrible but realistically he has more of a chance to pop up and kick 3 or 4 goals than VDB who I still think is an honest trier. So Weid in for VDB. Down the other end? Smith is the obvious one. Or maybe we move Smith forward drop Melksham and VDB and bring in Weid and OMac.

No doubt they'll use covid as an excuse and it may well have disrupted plans. But for an organisation that has had this as a key issue for decades excuses no longer gain traction. Covid or not we just want answers and action.

		Through different eyes

I don't buy that. While there are games to be played and a flag to be one our club should be fighting it out. They are professionals after all. While we wait yet another year to see what happens our players get another year closer to retirement. How many good years do the likes of Gawn, TMac, Melksham, Hibberd, Jetta, May and Jones etc have left? How many more wasted years of development for Brayshaw, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Weideman etc until it gets to the point where they have simply plateaued? Every year counts. Every game counts. Every contest counts. That should be the mantra of our footy club.

		Bring back Jesse Hogan!!

I still love Hogan and want to see him do well but I think he has peaked. He just doesn't have the mentality to succeed which is a shame because I think he did when he first started. Everyone knows what he's had to deal with and it seems he is still working through it all. By the time he figures it out it will be too late. I saw an instance on the weekend where he was ripping in to a teammate for burning him on the lead instead of turning around and impacting the next contest. If that's not out of his game by now its here to stay.

Most Frustrating Team in the AFL

Rookie mistake putting Melbourne in a multi! I never put us in, not for a win, a loss, not on the line nothing! About 8 or 9 years ago I had a 7 or 8 leg multi that's would've netted me over $600 for a $5 bet had the Pies beat us on Queens Birthday by over 44.5. We were down by 47 with seconds to go when Blease kicks this (for him) ridiculous goal from the boundary about 40 out. We lost by 41 and my multi was done. Never again!

I don't doubt it od. But I'd still like to see the questions asked. Put the heat on to let them know the supporters will not put up with another year like last year. They are at risk of losing all the gains since 2014 (membership and revenue wise) in the space of 12 months! They don't have an easy job but it seems to have been made harder by their own rash decision making. They need to know the supporters won't just let things roll on, there needs to be accountability. I'm one who last year would've been labelled an "apologist" for Goodwin, the players and the club - but my patience has run out. I said I'd give them 2020 to see how they responded from 2019 and the early numbers don't look promising.

What are the ramifications for the FD if we don't play finals this year considering the 4 year strategy unveiled at the AGM was to play finals every year from 2020-2023? If a decision had to be made on Goodwin would the club be able to pay him out considering he is contracted to end of 2022? What are the implications for the board who approved Goodwin's contract extension if we are hamstrung by that contract? When will we hear any concrete announcements regarding a home base? Timeframes? What revenue streams are we going to rely on to make up the lost revenue after we exit from the pokies? What other revenue streams are the board working on to make up the shortfall in revenue in 2020? Have the AFL confirmed we will be hosting Anzac Eve and Queens Birthday next year? That's a start

		POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong

Salem needs to play forward. He is not a defender, he is an attacking skillful player. He is not a line breaking half back, he has good goal sense and can deliver the ball inside 50 if we play him across half forward where he belongs. If he ever gets a run at it and can build a tank he could be our outside mid we're crying out for.

		POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Geelong

I thought everything was ****house today the effort, intensity, system, execution I've given the team and Goodwin time but I am losing patience, that was deplorable. The gameplan needs a severe overhaul and the players need to learn to play with intensity I don't think I could name one player who played well today. Geelong weren't much better which makes it all the more grating. We had an opportunity today and we blew it. Those who think Goodwin will be sacked are dreaming. No way we can afford to pay him out plus sign a new coach. We're stuck with him til end of 2021 at the earliest.

		Mixing Positional Lines @ Training

As Riewoldt said on the couch the slight benefit you might get from the synergy of line groups playing together is completely offset by the massive risk if one of them is wiped out for 2 games. It really is idiotic to have all forwards, mids and backs training together in the current environment
