  1. The location definitely is an issue. What 20-something wants to live on the Mornington Peninsula? They want to be around the nightlife. When we are trying to lure prospective recruits how do you think the Mornington Peninsula measures vs Richmond, Carlton or other inner city suburbs?
  2. I noticed that too
  3. Considering he gave away a 50 for the same rule earlier this season he should be well aware of it. I'm torn on Melksham, on one hand he offers something up forward being a rare player with goal sense. On the other he plays lazy footy a lot of the time, playing from behind trying to work his opponent under the ball or take a speccy which rarely comes off. This is probably due to age/speed but it is still a limitation which is frustrating. If we had another quicker option I wouldn't be offering him another year (or only on the proviso he will be depth and likely play out the season at Casey).
  4. We were 3 goals up with just over half a quarter to play and not one Melbourne supporter would've been confident of a win. Thats why the negativity because not only did it happen, we've seen the story a million times before. We had the chance to at least go down swinging and cost an arch rival a double chance and we bottled it. Same old story.
  5. Oliver missed his sitter at halftime
  6. You reckon the Packers let you down try following the Jets
  7. Pickett had a free against him for a similar tackle on Quaynor
  8. We have so few players that seem to have an instinct for the goals, it's actually the opposite our players seem to freeze up and want to hand it off instead of taking the opportunity to score. So many instances in the last quarter alone, it's truly baffling.
  9. Is Sinnema eligible this year?
  10. Yep we are the champs at honourable losses 🥳🙄
  11. Thank God for Gawn, he is an absolute beast. His ruckwork isn't great but his around the ground work is phenomenal. The effort he puts in should shame some of our other players. Langford was good. Rivers had a good second half after looking all at sea in the middle to start with. Imagine if he'd been given a whole season to develop as a mid.... This team is so frustrating to watch, they do so much right but just shoot themselves in the foot again and again. At once stage it seriously felt like we were watching a team of special eds running around out there not professional athletes. @binman there was a definite change to our ball movement that I noticed tonight (although the execution was diabolical) with the play on mantra, taking the shorter options etc. I'll admit this is one I likely got wrong as it's unlikely they just flicked a switch in the final game and have probably been working on it all season. My confirmation bias was probably noticing the long down the line/around the boundary kicks more than the alternative methods although I think we definitely tried the faster ball movement more frequently tonight. Short of going back and watching games from earlier this season again (which I'd rather stick hot pokers in my eye than do) it would be difficult to analyse so I'll admit Goodwin was trying to implement changes to the ball movement. I don't think that mitigates the other faults Goodwin had but on this one happy to say I was wrong.
  12. Just don't get reported Kozzie, please! Costing Collingwood the double chance would be a rare win in an otherwise terrible season.
  13. I agree with the intent of stamping out this behaviour but 4 weeks 🤦
  14. Would be a smart move for any incoming coach. Start clearing the decks of the cultural issues that have plagued the team for years.
  15. So every time we go long down the line around the boundary, that's shaking things up? Every time we go with the same merry go round of ins/outs? Every time we have the same players with 80%+ CBAs? Every time we go with the same forward setup be that personnel or structure? It's a myth Goodwin tried to drastically overhaul our setups/structures and ball movement. Yeah he may have tinkered but it was too little, too late. Nevermind I forgot to add the lack of development of our younger players, none of whom have really come on since the flag year despite debuting with some core strengths to build around.
  16. Because the club went backwards every year since 2021, has only won finals in two seasons since 2006, had/has massive cultural issues widely reported on, refused to make positional changes, structural changes or changes to our ball movement such that watching us play was/is like banging your head against the wall, because we had lost members in their droves etc
  17. Which one? The dial-a-quote based in Hawaii?
  18. The Bulldogs game wasn't a high standard, yes it was more free flowing but the Bulldogs are poor at defending. Our disposal in that game was god awful as well (especially the first half).
  19. Thanks for that @BoBo seems to back up what my eyes tell me. We still hack away at it way too much, still bomb long to contests (or no-one), still go long around the boundary to contests etc @At the break of Gawn says Chaplin and Goodwin say it's improved so it must be so but watching the game and looking at the stats it's clearly not the case. Our forward setups are a shambles and so is our ball movement. We may have improved the speed of our ball movement but that doesn't tell us anything about it's effectiveness or efficiency.
  20. Having watched every minute of every game (bar the Cats game), nah we haven't.
  21. The club has issues. Goodwin underperformed. These things can both be true. If you're talking about distinct periods I agree. If you're talking about sustained periods of underperformance/decline, that's on coaching not getting the best out of their players. You could argue we didn't have the players to win a flag the last two seasons and I would agree. But I would argue we had the players to at least challenge for finals and we have been way off even that.
  22. The argument was they needed percentage to finish top 4 which is incorrect. If the Hawks beat the Lions they finish top 4 and get the double chance. Lose and they don't. Percentage is irrelevant to that. Had Collingwood won on Saturday night Geelong may have been in 1st and Adelaide 2nd. So this talk about home final is grasping at best. Hawks destiny is in their own hands now as it relates to the double chance, and all this grasping at straws to try and justify why our performance in the last 4 minutes was commendable is laughable. We were pathetic on the weekend, that's the end of the story.
  23. Also because he takes a heap of contested marks and gets his fair share of free kicks, both of which count towards this stat.
  24. It's only a big deal if Smith has an issue with it. If not then I agree, nothing to see here but we don't know Smith's view. Edit although @rpfc is correct, Smith must be part of the coach selection process as he will be the long term leader.
