Alan Stockdale wants to be President
Adam The God replied to Chopper Lovell's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'll say it again. Bugger off, Stockdale. You've brought nothing more than an ego, just as Jeff did. -
And our salary cap cheating didn't win us a flag in the 90s, yet we still paid the penalty. Hit them with the book. Everyone else gets it.

Does the MFC deserve draft assistance?
Adam The God replied to Sydney Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, except they played in three straight prelims less than five years ago. We've had seven years of bottom six rubbish. -

I'd go Adams, but not for pick 1. That's paying massive overs. -
I'm not convinced that he can't. Further, when you are traded that usually provides the wake up call to pick up your work rate.

Not if we used the second or third pick we'd get to snare an elite mid and then use our next pick on another mid. -

Mate, that is a random news article. How do you know what he is actually thinking? -
Not for $600,000 mind you.

Whereas I think Malthouse is trying to play a game style that isn't suited to his list. Ratten had it right. They just have a middle of the road list. I'd take Betts though. I'd take him every day of the week.

Or he walks into the PSD... Anyway, Jack won't be going anywhere.

I'm happy to be left in the dark, as long as the right decision is made in the end. We don't need to be updated every five minutes.

Does the MFC deserve draft assistance?

See, I'm torn on this. Watts has far more flexibility than Howe. I'd be trading Howe to the highest bidder. Watts' disposal is sublime and we could use him anywhere from half back to the wing to rotating through the forward half. Too valuable for mine. If we've got men that can take marks in the forward fifty (Hogan, Clark, Dawes and say Boyd), what does Howe offer us? -

Except they already had the makings of a midfield. We may as well have nothing. I agree though. It is exciting. If Boyd is best available, it's a horrible pickle to be in. Do you take him and trade something with potentially less value or do you trade the pick on to an opposition club who really need him? The latter option could bite us down the track in a big way. I've always been in the best available camp, but he'll never get the ball if there isn't a decent midfield in place. I wonder if we can begin to develop midfielders from within and let's say we've taken Boyd and added Hogan to the forward line, all of a sudden that could be a serious footy team. And no, DF. We don't trade Dawes. He's just about the best leader we've got at the moment and left his last club to join us. What does trading him then say of us? FAs and potential opposition players would stay even further clear of the MFC. -
Peter Jackson - On The Couch Monday 29th July, 2013
Adam The God replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
I understand this thinking. It's very cynical, but understandable given our history. To an extent I find it pleasing that PJ seems to be taking his time on appointing the right people. They haven't run out and rushed the appointments ala Neeld. We have the AFL's support and PJ seems to have the right contacts. I think he'll be a long term CEO. The AFL understands we need stability over the coming five years. They need us off the bottom. We need to be off the bottom and flourishing as the next tv rights deal approaches. -
Then draft it is. I'm simply advocating that we explore all avenues.

Nothing less than A graders with pick 2. I've already mentioned Kennedy a few times. I've also noted that if nothing falls our way, then we go to the draft.

Peter Jackson - On The Couch Monday 29th July, 2013
Adam The God replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just watched the replay of ON THE COUCH. Loved Jackson's comments RE: Melbourne have too often looked to employ Melbourne people, rather than simply appointing the best people for the job. Thankfully someone said it. If anyone gets [censored] off with that comment, I want them as far away from our footy club as possible. Further, really enjoyed the mentality of getting the footy team right and the focus on the need to develop. -
I think we'll win. Frawley will shut down Cameron and we'll get up by a couple of goals.

Yeah, I'd say "[censored] off, Stockdale". -
Short term issues. If they are laden with draft sanctions, they will struggle for the next decade. You only have to look at Carlton and our predicament now. A lack of senior players. It may not affect them short term, but that depends on whether their players are banned. Drafts are so important. If you are banned for two years that can have dire long term effects. If the Commission come down firmly with draft sanctions, they may well include FA too.

Spot on, RM. Every time we moved it quickly inside forward fifty we looked dangerous. That's how the best sides do it. I watched Hawthorn do it all Friday night.

I've mentioned that if pick 2 doesn't lure an A grader, then there's no point. Use it on the best young kid. I'd be poking my nose around Collingwood. I'd be getting in Sewell's ear. I'd be getting the lay of the land, not simply sitting back and saying 'oh, we'll never land anyone'. Who knows with regards to Kennedy. If they win another flag this year, he might say it's time to head home on lucrative coin. My point is, we simply don't know until we put the second pick on the table.

If you mean 'who do you think we'll get for pick 2 in the draft', then I couldn't say I know this pool of players well enough to comment. Aish and Sheed look the goods, but how that translates to AFL, I have no idea. I'd prefer to leave that in the hands of people who have watched them copious times and followed them for a while. My impression from the four games I've seen is that there is a lack of inside class in this pool. I could well be wrong. If the club believes this notion is incorrect, then I'm all for keeping pick 2. I'm simply not convinced at this stage, coupled with the fact I believe we need to improve our midfield next year. Not in three or four years time. With regards to putting the second pick up for trade, I think it's particularly defeatist to simply say, as some DLanders are doing, no one worth their salt will come to Melbourne. We have to shake some branches and see what falls out. If we like it, we deal. I doubt anyone on here is privy to certain opposition players and whether they would or wouldn't jump at a lucrative offer. Who'd have thought we'd get Clark or Dawes? 'Crackpot' Neeld, as you've dubbed him, quite rightly, managed to get both of them across the line. Imagine what Roos or Williams could do. The 2014 season will see us with a top line coach. That makes us a slightly more palatable proposition. Whilst I'm probably still in the camp of best available, I fail to see what another potential flanker/outside runner is going to add to our list. I completely concur on the 'class' aspect. However, I think Toumpas and Viney both have inherent class. In fact, the latter reminds me of a young Kieran Jack, but probably has more natural talent having grown up with the game. Having said that, I'm also mindful that quite a few MFC players have shown that class and then failed to develop/deliver.

I actually thought he was probably in our top 2 or 3 yesterday. Not saying much given our performance, but a much better return.
