  1. I watched 'Hannah and Her Sisters' earlier today. First Woody Allen film I've "got". It's amazing. It might make 'Annie Hall' more accessible on re-watch. Allen might be one of those directors that I eventually love more with age. I didn't "get" Tarantino until seeing 'Jackie Brown' and didn't get the Cohen's until seeing 'Barton Fink' and the third viewing of 'Fargo'. I watched 'O Brother Where Art Thou' tonight too. Loved it. Is anyone a fan of giallos (the Italian precursor to 1980s Hollywood slashers)? I caught 'House With The Laughing Windows' at MIFF this year. Hilarious and intriguing film. Argento is probably the master, but Mario Bava, Lucio Fulci and Sergio Martino are amazing too.
  2. And I take it you probably work in the industry. Yeah, great little nod from Tarantino there. Love the Shaw logo. They weren't even trying with that one.
  3. I'm yet to see any Russ Meyer films. Somehow I've always skipped over 'Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!' Should probably watch that at some point too. Your display pic is the John Waters giveaway, HT. Gathered you liked him or at least 'Pink Flamingos'. Have you seen Miike's latest film? I'm yet to catch it. Not a big fan, but heard it's reasonably predictable and dull. Some talented directors in that lot though.
  4. Trenners was good today. Get off his case. Becoming very underrated around these parts. Grimes isn't AFL standard though.
  5. Been getting into the exploitation stuff lately. Watched 'Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song' (1971) and the original 'Shaft' for the first time. I also have 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls' on my list, which I've never seen. 'Ilsa She Wolf of the SS', 'The Night Porter', 'Gone in 60 Seconds' (the original), 'Coffy' and 'Foxy Brown'. Then there's my reasonably recent obsession with wuxia films (Chinese martial arts) made by the Shaw Brothers during the '60s and '70s. The best ones I've seen are 'The 36th Chamber of Shaolin', 'Five Deadly Venoms' and 'Executioners from Shaolin'. I also just watched 'Killer's Kiss' (Kubrick's second film), which had some nice shot making (as you'd expect from a Kubrick film), but a dull noir really. Do Demonlanders go after directors or actors? Anyone have a few favourite directors?
  6. Sewell is a real chance. I think we should be throwing the house at Sydney's Kennedy. Martin is struggling to get his own game to a consistent level, let alone guiding other players. That said, I'd probably take Martin, but it would depend on the cost.
  7. I'm not convinced that he can't. Further, when you are traded that usually provides the wake up call to pick up your work rate.
  8. Not for $600,000 mind you.
  9. Whereas I think Malthouse is trying to play a game style that isn't suited to his list. Ratten had it right. They just have a middle of the road list. I'd take Betts though. I'd take him every day of the week.
  10. I actually thought he was probably in our top 2 or 3 yesterday. Not saying much given our performance, but a much better return.
  11. Totally agree, Tim. And the fact that he is playing in a midfield bereft of talent and leadership cannot be underestimated.
  12. They are different types of players. It's like comparing Sidebottom with Sewell. Wines will be an important player for Port and if Jimmy keeps developing, he'll be an important contributor for us.
  13. If you'd been at the game, you would have thought that was definitely the right decision. It was bucketing down. No one had taken those all day. He went back and completed the spoil. Right decision. Rather than trying to mark it, dropping it in the slippery conditions and allowing a Geelong player to run into an open goal. It was a great decision.
  14. I'd say Jimmy's awkward gait has come about from his two hip operations. He's still no doubt learning how to move with it.
  15. Trade Radio - his manager just said they haven't spoken to us. So that's no Caddy. Thank God.
  16. Let's just hope we don't get Caddy.
  17. Don't get the Caddy love. Very meh.
  18. Let's not get fancy with our possessions. Kick it on your natural foot. We barely hit targets by hand or foot as it is. No need to complicate by turning onto our left. Trengove and Watts did this yesterday as well.
  19. He got the ball and I have been a fan of Morton in the past, but jesus does he butcher it! I'd be giving him run with roles. His best two games have been against Adam Goodes as a tagger. Minimise his kicking of the ball until he gains some confidence. He can be a beautiful long kick for goal. He's low on confidence, but his turn overs were unforgivable yesterday. I'll tell you what annoys me. Why the [censored] do our players insist on running onto their weaker side and kicking it with their left? How many turn overs did that result in yesterday? A handful at least.
  20. Clinton Grybas was easily the best. Very nice guy too.
  21. I'm not sure it's such a bad thing, fitness. It puts Malthouse in the frame as well. We have the cash to spend on a coach and a young, talented list. If Clarkson declines then Mick has his turn.
  22. That perception may have come from me reading Demonland too much.
  23. No, I reckon we pay Scully what he's worth at the moment. In line with JT and Tappy. Spend the cash on a coach. No one on our list deserves that at the moment.
  24. Very interesting. Carries as much weight as anything else we've ever heard in the media, but I'd like to dream.:D
