  1. As soon as they changed the centre square rule, his influence was pretty much entirely alleviated. I'd still take him back in a heartbeat though. Ten times the player Jamar has ever been, minus perhaps 2010. Question for everyone. Given how some DLers reacted to Frawley putting off contract talks, how will you react if Jones hasn't signed by Round 1?
  2. No. I'm astounded to read we were offered pick 6. GWS obviously see him as a marketing machine with his high marking, because he doesn't offer enough at this point. I just don't see him as a game breaker and we've been saying for at least two seasons now that 'Howe will be elite'. When do we see that? Each to their own, jnrmac. No, we weren't. It was reported on Demonland earlier on Thursday or perhaps even late Wednesday that we'd been offered pick 6 for Howe. His manager was said to have approached Collingwood to see if they could better the offer, because Howe wasn't keen on GWS. Bingo. I think people get seduced by the idea that Howe can sit on Dawes' or Hogan's shoulders when they aren't plucking marks themselves. You've gotta offer more than that in modern footy. He improved his set shot kicking in 2013, but unless he develops a few extra bows I'd look to get something for him at the trade table. Why? I'd probably give up picks 4 and 7 for Heppell. Absolute gun and there's no guarantee you'll get an elite player with either pick.
  3. I have a feeling it might be the other way around. Fascinating time to go though.
  4. Whereas, I never rated him. Does sound easy to say in hindsight though. Always had suspect disposal and was slower than my grandmother. Even Darren Cuthbertson played some great games. Didn't mean he was going to last though.
  5. Unnecessary... And the Schwarta, Lyon, Pike combo in '94 was deadly. Went to just about every game that year. Lyon was my favourite player, followed later by Farmer. Schwarta was a close third though. Then there was Neitz, Stynes, Viney. Wow, we had some great players in the '90s.
  6. The big point of difference here is that Boyd is a KF prospect. KPPs are always more highly sought after as a commodity, than a dime a dozen midfielder. I love the way Jonesy plays, but the position he plays in has to be factored into the contract, as does the captaincy mind you.
  7. Well, given we've barely touched our midfield this off season, after saying everyone's tradeable, you'd bloody hope we'd look to invest in our C grade (B grade if I'm being extremely kind) midfield.
  8. It's got a decent mixture of types, but aside from Danger and Treloar lacks a bit of toe. What's Brayshaw like? Quick? It has me salivating though. Oh and I'd take Greene as well, if we could swing three, but Danger and Treloar will do me fine. I can't see Danger signing anywhere but Geelong at the moment. We shall see.
  9. I'm pleasantly surprised that this thread hasn't contained much skyfalling. I had a feeling there'd be a large dose of MFCSS about.
  10. True. There was always going to be shades of grey. I can't see us going backwards next year, but I can't see us improving much either, so it'll be in Jonesy's hands until late next year, unless we manage to "lock him in" (as the club website likes to say) prior to the 2015 season. I reckon we could comfortably offer him $700k pa, even $750k and still have enough cap room to throw the kitchen sink at a Dangerfield and a younger GWS player for $600k pa. If we do land a big fish next off season, we have to be careful from a list management perspective, otherwise we could have the likes of Tyson and Hogan coming out of contract at the same time and having little to pay them due to the big fish.
  11. Thanks, DD. His attributes remind me of a taller Luke Hodge. I'll be interested to see where he goes at the draft and how much he can impact during his first season.
  12. And when do you think it's likely he'll recommit, Ron? Prior to 2015, during 2015 or at the end of 2015?
  13. What are your thoughts on the contractual status of Nathan Jones? I know some will be worried, while others will just take this as a sign of the times. But what do we think the club's position is on this? From what I can gather, they must either be very confident with how the negotiations are progressing, or they would have tried to trade Jones this year. Alternatively, they might simply be confident of retaining Jones at the end of next season. For me, the will he, won't he nature of an unsigned FA is usually pretty destabilising for a football club, probably even more so when the player in question is your captain. I understand he's actually a RFA, so we can match whatever offer another club proffers, but it'd just be nice for it not to get to that stage and sign him up prior to the start of the 2015 season. Roos flagged that teams would trade players who failed to commit to their club a year out from FA. Was this merely a ploy to encourage other clubs to trade their talented FAs a year out (ie Dangerfield) or would he really treat his own list in the same way?
  14. I think he'll show yet again that he's an inconsistent and one dimensional player. If he doesn't then he raises his value and we can trade him for something good next year.
  15. Surely it was Walsh coming into the Crows and vetoing any possible Dangerfield trade...
  16. Would love Shiel, wouldn't sneeze at Greene and would be ecstatic to land Treloar. I tell yas, the next Judd, the latter kid.
  17. Yeah, that's what I said the other day. I wonder if this was a plan by GWS? As in, last minute so no one else could trade the picks.
  18. Yeah, once the midfield is strengthened again next off season (hopefully via FA), a forward partner for Hogan is the go, IMO. Dawes can play third fiddle. So we should be looking for a bloke that can ruck and play forward. I hope Gawn can increase his fitness base and play that role in 2015 though. Can't see it happening though on his 2014 showings.
  19. What an impressive interview that is on the MFC website. Seems like a good kid. I must admit I hadn't seen much of him, but I'm excited by what he can bring to the MFC. Welcome, Sam.
  20. Lol, love the change of the thread title. It's gonna be a long year.
  21. I like this idea, but equally, here's an opportunity where Goodwin can earn his pay cheque.
